Inside, though, the place is very well appointed, with a loft-style decor that's appealing even when set amongst the utter suburbia of Mission Viejo. The bathrooms are very nice. Yet you will probably pay for the luxury. There is no receptionist, and the stylists seem to work off their clientele and referrals; a quick glance inside reveals a customer base of affluent women that seem married, if you see where I'm going with this. There are a few men who come for haircuts and coloring (this place is full service), but what keeps me coming back is my stylist, Ping. He does a good haircut, but he's also a most interesting guy to talk with. Plus, his seat is next to this door that opens out to a pleasant artificial pool that lets in both air and beautiful sunlight. Parking is not a problem, and there is a credit card machine on site.

When I pulled into the lot, I could see a large front sign on the building, "Viejo's Salon." I'm in the right place! As I drive closer, I discovered that the inside of the shop was empty. (i.e. - Gutted) Did they move?... 'Damn, I had an appointment at 11:20pm; like "now." I drove past and was about to park to call the shop and let them know I was going to be late. I wanted to double check the address as well. Just as I was near the end of the row of shops, I saw another shop sign, smaller than the first for Viejo Salon and they were OPEN for business. - "Okay, that was interesting, maybe they recently moved to the new space?" Photo: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/viejos-salon-mission-viejo?select=uHHnKysGceC6B2df3hV1hA The salon is hidden, tucked around the corner behind a portion of the plaza that was formerly a B of A. If you see a van with the name, "Viejo's Salon," across the side of it; you are in the right place! Photo: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/viejos-salon-mission-viejo?select=uKgG44b9qxqCyuxcdI5b6w When I walked in, there were two people @ the front counter; a young man & older lady. They both looked @ each other and then @ me, spoke between themselves in Vietnamese, and then back to me again. They had a look of, "Who are you & why are you here?" I found it odd because they were open for business. Odd. Older lady: Can I help you? Me: I have an 11:20 appointment with Landon, do I need to sign in? Older lady: (Silence) Interior: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/viejos-salon-mission-viejo?select=Q1aoftM6grfV_M6KR--8jg Okay... I signed in anyway. She told me to take a seat and disappeared into the back. Landon popped his head out and apologized; he was running a little behind. Landon: So, how would you like your haircut? Me: I'll leave it up to you... You're artist! Picasso was an artist too. Note to self: Never utter those words again to the person cutting hair. This is no knock to the great, Pablo Picasso's contribution to the world of art, especially his later years when he delved into the abstract. In addition, it is not in reference to Landon's great haircut but... 'If you didn't know me, @ a glance, you'd think I was enlisted in the armed forces. One word, "Hellakf*k'nshort!" (LOL) My name is DJ and I take full credit for the results. Again, my rating does not reflect in any shape, way, or form my personal feelings about the end result of Landon's work but rather the direction it went AND with my blessings of course. (Sh*t. HA!) It's hair, it'll grow back... 'I hope. The haircutting process: 1. Clippers 2. Shampoo/conditioner 3. Shears 4. Clippers & shears 5. Hair product & style Total time: 30 minutes "Thank you, Landon!" Landon was great, he was friendly, professional, and diligent in cutting my hair. As a few other yelp*ers have written, the haircut didn't feel rushed. However, the other two shop employees were socially awkward. I had tried making conversation with them upon first arriving but it was like clapping with one hand. I had flashbacks of Anjelah Johnson's stand up bit @ nail salons... "NAILED IT!," pun intended. (If you haven't seen the routine, Google it. Hilarious!) Aside from the socially inept duo, it was a good experience. I'd have no hesitation about returning for another haircut from Landon BUT with a bit more direction. - "You can't rush art!"
