My stylist is Lynnea. She is wonderful. She is able to cut my hair with creativity and details, always understanding what I desire, and always enhancing the nature of my hair. I recently visited this salon and received styling from Eleanor. She was really nice and I am typically a little apprehensive about my stylists, but she did a great job. The only reason I didn't give this a higher score is because the shop was a little dirty and my stylist took a whopping 3 hours for my press and curl. It was a lengthier process than I had anticipated and if this was a shorter, I would have given a 4. Overall good customer service. read more

I forget the owner's name but she's very professional and always gives me a fabulous cut. I'm mixed race (black/white) with multiple types of curly hair textures on my one big head and she manages to cut it so it dries symmetrically. I've been a customer of this salon for nearly a year now, and I have not been disappointed by any of the styling i've received. It's a really laxed and diverse atmosphere, which is sometimes hard to find in salons. There's your high end salons and regular walk in salons, but Image IE is a balance on the spectrum. I recently decided to become a red head, and I have fell in love. My stylist Lynnea really did a great job; I was sceptical of the color, but she was encouraging, being that I enjoy color. It turned out way better than I expected, and it's awesome!!! If you're ever looking for a great place to try out, I would highly suggest Image IE. I don't usually write reviews. However, considering other peoples yelp reviews led me to this salon, I figured I'd give back! I have 4c natural hair. My individual strands are thick but the volume of my hair is thin. Since I've been natural (1 year and half), I haven't really straightened my hair. I usually do protective styles such as bantu knots, two-stand twist, braids etc. But for the New Year, I wanted something different. I decided to get my hair straightened. After doing some research, I decided to book my appointment with Chana and hoped for the best. (I was nervous my hair would get heat damaged or I'd run into a " scissor happy" stylist.) Chana was the complete opposite of the parenthesized description. She took her time doing my hair, gave me recommendations on how to help my hair reach its fullest potential and best of all she only cut off less than an inch of hair for the trim. I loved the styling and received a lot of compliments on the finished product. I held off on writing this review until after I washed my hair to see if my hair was heat damaged. My hair returned to its natural state! Also my hair was 10x faster to detangle because I no longer had curly, thin split ends that would knot up. I gave four stars because I want to try Image Ie's other services before I add on the last star! But I will definitely return. read more

Samantha at Image IE saved my lifeee!!! She stayed open until I arrived (5 minutes after they close at 6), because I got stuck in horrible traffic (I'm visiting from out of state really didn't think it could take an hour to go 10 miles). I called her to update her on traffic, and I explained it would be an additional X minutes, and she was so nice and understanding (when quite honestly I would have told me to try again tomorrow!). And she did that JUST so she could wash my box braids: that was my whole appointment (I had just gotten them done before leaving, but needed to wash them and didn't know how for the first time and left my shampoo at home...double fail). She was so friendly, professional, and took her time explaining how I should wash it for when I get home. And then she waited for my hair to dry in the dryer. She went above and beyond what anyone has ever done, and I am forever grateful. She is the definition of an amazing hairstylist (and a really nice person!) I will DEFINITELY be coming back to thousand salon next time I'm in town!!! read more

Chana is my lifesaver!! I had thee worsest knotts in my hair like i mean BAAAAD,i was so depressed because so many people told me to jus give it up and cut my hair off. i thought it wouldnt be possible and i thought id have to cut it all, but i can honestly say chana did her thang....she was willing to try...she didnt give up on me and she did all her best..she completely amazed me. She was able to take all my big terrible knotts out within 3hours which i thought was pretty good lookin at how bad of a condition my hair was in before i came in. Got a lil head massage too which was awesome, got it combed out, shampoo'd and washed. She also gave me some good tips on how i can regrow my hair healty and thick agaain. I've been here and have had Samantha cut my naturally curly hair twice (for reference I have 3b curls with some spots of 3a curls) and I couldn't be more happy with how it turned out. First time I saw her was about 7-8 months ago and she did a good trim to help with breakage and split ends. Then end of May I was fed up with my hair (I had done an ombré with bleaching/lightening about a year earlier and totally fried my hair and was in denial) and decided I had to cut off anything that wasn't my natural hair color aka about 6-7 inches to get it healthy again. I showed her a few pictures of the shape I wanted and what the issues were (as if she couldn't see the split ends on my splits ends lol) and she went to work. She took her time and regularly checked in with me to see how I was liking the length. I went from my hair being almost to the middle of my back to shoulder length and she did an incredible job to ensure my curls were properly shaped (no dreaded pyramid look yay!). I was always go to this shop. I've been getting my dreads twisted here for about two years and she does really good work. She always washes my hair before she twists it and she always seems to take her time. She does everything necessary to keep them fresh for me when I come in and gives advice on how to keep them up outside of her shop. She knows how to keep a conversation, but will leave you alone if you just want to chill. I love the work she does with my hair, I don't go to anyone else. I would recommend her to anyone that needs to get their dreads twisted. I have also referred people that did not have dreads to get their hair done there as well, and they still go back. Chana is my stylist here, and she does amazing work! I've been here about three times now. My third time (today) had me anxious because it had been waaaaay too long and I knew I probably had some breakage. Chana was very good as always. At one point, I causally mentioned wanting to cut my hair shorter but being a bit scared at losing my shoulder-length locks. Chana surprised me with a perfect solution to both my haircut fear and the breakage; she gave me an A line cut with the back (and major breakage area) sitting just above my neck. I was thrilled! Oh, and she also does really goo work on eyebrows as well. :) FYI: Right now, this is a cash only establishment, but they are working on getting a card reader very soon! read more

Lijah made me fall in love with my curly hair again! She is extremely gifted, it was easy to schedule an appointment, the cut was very reasonably priced, she educated me on products to use and best of all, my hair looks amazing even after a wash! I just went in for a haircut on Halloween and I'm so so happy with the way it turned out! Sam was the one cutting my hair and she was extremely knowledgeable about curly hair and was able to bring about spirally life to my 2b-3a curls. She was also able to provide a very good recommendation for a leave-in product and it's such a good value because it's about a liter bottle for the same price as a pricy 8oz conditioner that I tried. I'm using it now and I love that I can put as much of the product as I want and all my curls are doing is loving it! I usually get my hair cut every 4-5 years but maybe I'll get my hair cut in 6 months to a year instead because this is my favorite hair cut that I've received, hands down! read more

I followed my stylist Lynnea here because she is the best, most consistent person I have found in the bay area to style my hair. I found Lynnea after being the bay area for 10 years (from NY) struggling to find a great stylist for Black Women's hair. Lynnea and the owner here are terrific. The decor is urban modern and comfortable. The atmosphere is relaxed and they are very efficient. I love it there. i got the haircut from hell. Searched online for a stylist that specialized in short cuts & came across Image IE. I scheduled with Chana with no problem & was extremely excited. Went in for my appt. & she was working on another client's hair. I got in the chair, she did most of the cut, washed & deep conditioned my hair. went under the dryer for FOREVER because she cut 2 clients's hair as i was waiting. still, i thought nothing of it. when i finally got back in the chair she continued to cut & cut...& cut. she began styling & i knew then that i was gonna hate it. i showed many photos and she got the concept but when she went with it & made it her own was when it all changed. my hair is very choppy in certain spots & she gave me an extremely old school style. not happy & not worth the cost. very disappointed & i have to have someone come & fix it. i would not recommend this shop if you're looking for something very specific or if you would like to be done in a timely manner. i was there for almost a full work shift & it was not worth it. read more

I have been going to Image I.E. for many years to get my hair dyed, straightened, and curled. This review I felt I had to do because I am no longer going to support or be a customer to this business. The changes in the staff is on constant rotation so brace yourself for the ongoing change and limitations to have your hair appointment scheduled. I have found the owner to be stale, have attitude and a major RBF. If you have long thick curly and wavy natural hair make sure you have someone who respects that and doesn't avoid or shade you for beautiful hair. I've experienced being passed around to incompetent hairstylists that didn't do their job correctly. Oh and get this if you are a loyal customer God forbid you have to cancel an appointment that was beyond your control and then have to be faced to pay a 30 dollar fee onto your next appointment. That's what Lijah told me over the phone when I had to cancel an appointment for a circumstance that I could not control. Hahaha as if I would be back to give you another cent! The fees are coming in because they're loosing money and the business is hurt. I will not be going to Image again it's a joke of a salon and the management is poor!!! Find somewhere else to go if you don't want to deal with a hating/ hurt owner. read more

My daughter has been going to this salon for approximately 2 years now. Chana has done an EXCELLENT job with her relaxer, trim, and getting her hair healthy. Now my daughter is transitioning to natural hair and is having her hair pressed and trimmed. I've been wearing my hair natural for 8 years (used to get my hair relaxed). She is always consistent, and never disappoints, she is also very skilled in that I trust her to try new styles on my hair cause she will get it just right, she actually listens to me first and then styles my hair just the way I want it done. Chana is the Greatest!! My first time in the shop i felt like i had somehow known her all my life. She has been my stylist now since 2009. Her prices are fair and you can tell she loves doing hair. She is the hair diva and she is also concerned with not only how you look but how you feel about her work. I was sooo.... impressed with the precision. Love, love, love this salon. EVERY time I visit I feel like I'm at a friend's house waiting to get a haircut-it's so comfortable. ALL the stylists are very welcoming and as down-to-earth as it gets. CHANA is my stylist, and she gets it right every time. I have short hair, so the upkeep is very demanding (every 2 weeks), but she is very flexible with her appointments, and tries her BEST to accommodate your schedule. She's great at recommending new styles, and has a great eye for what style will fit you best--I went from LONG hair to SHORT hair, and I love it. . Not to mention, her washes are like heaven. I go there sometimes, not in need of a hair cut, but just to get washed. She also is a make-up artist and has done my make-up on many occasions. She also specializes in individual eyelashes (lasts two weeks), and does it for a GREAT price.
