My kids have been part of the Ganbaru family for a few months now, and they enjoy every class and love their Sensei. The class is well organized. All kids get to participate and learn. They use real Japanese Karate terminology. The instructors are knowledgeable and you can tell their love for the art. They teach traditional shotokan karate. I recommend this place 100%.

From the owner: Welcome to Ganshin Dojo, where we honor the tradition of Japanese Shōtōkan Karate-Dō. The name…read moreGanshin was inspired by Hanshi Luis Ganhao, who combined elements from previous dojo names like Ganbaru and Zanshin to form "GanShin," which best reflects the spirit that defines their essence. When separated into two kanji ideograms, "Gan" 頑 means stubborn, determined, strong-willed, and "Shin" 心 means heart, spirit. Together, they convey a powerful meaning for our karate-dō dojo: "a determined, firm, and resolute heart and spirit," embodying our philosophy of perseverance and discipline in the pursuit of mastery. At Ganshin Dojo, we are committed to preserving the authentic techniques and principles of Shōtōkan, guiding our students to not only develop physical power but also to build strength of character. Our motto, "mastery through practice, power with purpose, excellence in character," reflects our core belief that true karate is about more than just skill—it's about cultivating the mind, body, and spirit. Join us in this exciting journey to unlock your potential and become part of a tradition that inspires greatness!

Chayon Ryu means, 'Natural Way System' - we should move in ways that are bio-mechanically friendly & efficient for humans to move. This reduces the chances for injury or long term wear & tear on the joints, and maximizes the speed & power one can develop. There are many students and instructors here who have been training for 20, 30, 40 years and their health & mobility reflect this. This is a place to train to improve the quality of your life, rather than win trophies or bar fights ;-)

This is a traditional martial arts school - not a club or a place to hang out and try a few tricks/techniques. Injuries are very rare as students and instructors treat each other with respect and patience. I started studying Chayon-Ryu when I was in high school as an almost desperate attempt to end the bullying I experienced for most of my childhood. Chayon-Ryu instilled valuable skills, confidence and life-long friendships into me. Train for more than a couple of years and the benefits, beyond learning how to kick and punch, will pour forth into your life. And if you have any children interested in learning karate, Master Sean Kim is FANTASTIC. I have never seen someone so great with kids. He is super patient and is so good at teaching the youngest of the students self-control and discipline. Try a few lessons out and I am sure you will not be disappointed.
