Yelp Review 2023 #273:
What's not to like about street art? They cover up old boring city walls to make them more lively and to convey a message. This one is in Kaziemerz in Krakow - on the corner of Bozego Ciala and Beera Meiselsa. Since it's in a public wall, you can see this 24/7.
It's been around since 2014 and it looks like it's starting to fade. And some talentless individuals have left their mark on the same wall. The artist is Banksy.
At first and quick glance, I thought it was a soldier coming back from war holding a rifle - and that's why he's "happy again". But it's actually from a movie with Gene Kelly singing "Singing in the Rain". If you're not familiar with the song, the lyrics goes:
"I'm singing in the rain.
Just singing in the rain.
What a glorious feeling.
I'm happy again
I'm laughing at clouds so dark up above
The sun's in my heart and I'm ready for love
Let the stormy clouds chase everyone from the place"
This is in an old Jewish quarter with lots of painful history. You walk in this particular spot in this neighborhood now and you can still feel a sense of heaviness and melancholy. Buildings with bullet holes remind you what it was like before.
Happy for freedom but the memories last. read more
