Yelp Review 2023 #276:
There are parts of history that are rather unsavory. On my way to Schindler's Enamel Factory, I made a stop at Gxxxto Wall Fragment which is also known as Remains of the Ghetto Wall or Fragment of the Gxxxto Wall. It is a wall 39 feet wide and 9 feet tall in the shape of gravestones. It is located in Podgorze just south of the Vistula River from the Jxxish Quarter, Kaziemerz.
I believe this is the last remaining part of the original wall of the 49-acre gxxxto during World War II when the Nxxis occupied Krakow. About 20,000 Jxxish people living in Kaziemerz were resettled in the Podgorze ghetto. Multiple families living in one apartment. The old and sick were shot. Some worked for the Aryxns. Some lived long enough only to be sent to concentration camps.
The wall ran along a tram line. Some Polish factory workers would throw food over the wall on their way to work to help those living in the ghetto. This was Gxxxto Gate Number 3.
Now, the area has been rebuilt and has changed since then with only this wall remaining. There's a plaque on the wall that's in Hebrew and Polish that reads: "here they lived, suffered and died at the hands of the German torturers. From here they began their final journey to the death camps." read more
