I initially reviewed Suki under the salon 'Kenneth of London'. As it turns out, her business card…read morereads, 'Hair Central', so I figured I would post my review of her here as well: My friends and I frequent this salon, but get our haircuts exclusively from Suki. We know her as "Suki the Hairstylist" :). The rest of the salon is full of middle aged white women. Suki is one of the only asian hairstylist, and is probably the only dependable stylist when it comes to giving you modern hairstyles. Her rate is $20 for most mens' hairstyles/cuts. She's a nice korean lady with a pretty thick accent but as long as you bring in a picture of what you want (make sure to include various angles of the haircut) she'll be sure to take care of you. She also has a big pile of printed photos other patrons have brought to her and have gotten done. Alot of them are over-the-top asian hairstyles that you'd expect to see on korean/japanese people. I aint into all that but if thats you're thing, she can definitely take care of you. Not to be shady to my own kind, but typically when I go to Vietnamese salons, the ladies will just use a buzzer and fade you up (even if you just ask for a trim). I suppose you get what you pay for though, since those are usually 8-10 dollars per haircut. Fortunately, Suki used to work in San Francisco (where she used to charge more than double her current rate) and happens to know how to approach many styles of hair with many different tools. Some of the ones she's used on me I've never even seen before (one of them was similar to a vegetable/fruit peeler). I'd suggest that prior to scheduling an appointment, walk in and show her the picture of what you want and ask her if your hair is ready to be cut. Sometimes you'll have to wait a few weeks for it to grow before she can really give you what you want. Don't be impatient, wait for it to grow and she'll work her magic. The times I've gotten lazy about waiting, the cut didn't turn out as well as I would have liked.

The rest of the truth is what the other reviewers have said: Lam has been cutting my hair for, um, a long time -- let's just say since before the internet. She is a true artist, not just with hair, but the great thing about hair is that we get to see her do her art for us each time we get a haircut. You can either go in with an idea of the look you want, or you can leave it to Lam, as I do, and either way, you will end up with perfection -- every hair will be where and how it should be, for your type of hair, for your desired look, for the look that you didn't know you could have. Seriously, you are going to miss out on something if you don't at least try Lam.

I had been with another stylist for almost twenty years, but my wife talked me into giving Lam a try when that person was unavailable. My haircut was so improved I made the tough choice of leaving my former stylist. Lam is a an artist - no, literally a fine painter - and her keen eye comes through in every haircut. Being able to please all of us - my wife who uses Lam for her color weave; my son, who has to look just so (if you know what I mean); and me - is quite a feat. We are devoted!

Since she's on her own the prices have now gone down! Shhh. Don't tell Christie cause she'll raise them to what she's worth and, meanwhile, take advantage of her starting her own business and her amazing abilities. I have straight, limp, white girl hair. Not the kind you'll ever see on picture from hair stylists. It's a major challenge to find a stylist that can cope. When I got tired of that same style every time, I wandered from stylist to stylist. Some cheaper. Some very expensive. None producing anything more than meh-level styles.... till I got to Christie. Christie suggested that my prior stylists had limited me and, if I was willing to take a chance, she had an alternative. So for the first time since college I have no permanent in my hair. I do have the highlights I've been wishing for and a style that has gotten even better as it has grown out. It's also easy to get together in 5 minutes and I can spend additional time to enhance it for special occasions. She's great at being clear what she is recommending and taking input from the customer (NO short hair here please!). Christie understands costs and suggested every 4 months was enough to maintain. In this economy that's OK for my pocketbook. She didn't push product though she was willing to explain what she was using and how to prioritize if I only wanted one. Speed isn't the major criteria here. OTOH, the place is a hoot. You'll think you are in a CW show. Be prepared for an experience. Just let yourself go and enjoy. I told Christie I would give her a review if I got 10 compliments. Not only did I exceed that number but I've gotten people asking who does my hair so they can go too. Not a bigger compliment I can give Christie except one: I've just made my appointment for my third visit. I'm sold.
