Practically a walk in, I called from Indiana and happened to be in Bloomington IL for 2 days. I called and WALTER answered the phone and the rest was easy. I met with him and discussed what and where I wanted a piece, I actually didn't know, and he decided he had 3 hours open the very next day to do my forearm. IT LOOKS AMAZING! He worked non stop and payed attention to all details of a picture I had brought in the night before. I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone looking for some "ink". I am giving this shop one star because of our tattoo artist, Andrew, and because of Chad, the owner's, response to our frustration. This was my first tattoo. Andrew has the WORST attitude. When Andrew showed how he had laid the tattoo out, every time I suggested what I preferred he would say, "that would look dumb" or "you don't want to do that" So, I figured since he was the "expert" I would take his suggestions. And he made me feel very rushed to get it over with and decide even though we had sent the pictures long before the appointment. The first time he laid it out, my daughter didn't like it so he voiced his opinion about how HE thought it looked good and begrudgingly re-did it. I suggested I wanted a small red heart to give it a splash of color and he verbally made a noise about his dislike for that idea. I found him to be cocky and overly confident. After uncovering my tattoo I discovered he neglected to finish the "u" in you. On my daughter's tattoo the name was away and upwards from the rest of the writing and the "u" in you does not look like mine. This tattoo was extremely important for my daughter as she had a memorial tattoo for her father from another place botched so she needed this to be perfect. She also has issues related to her dad's passing...which I told Chad.. so when I called, of course I was upset and probably a little vociferous, especially when I expressed my concern and all the girl said was "she wasn't supposed to remove the bandage yet" I did in no way cuss HER out but did cuss by saying it was a shitty job but she told Chad I cussed her out. Chad only tried to excuse the tattoos saying that it was stenciled so he couldn't do anything. The issue is that it was stenciled correctly but when Andrew was tatting, he was pulling the skin and that's why it was uneven. Chad never said anything about the "u" not being finished on mine. And he did not address my concern about Andrew and his "I know better than you attitude" I told him if he understood my daughter's mental state he might be a little more understanding. He said, "how much more understanding do you want me to be" My daughter has been through A LOT which Chad had a brief knowledge of. She was going to get a cover-up tattoo with Chad for her dad's memorial but since she left a 1-star about Andrew he refused to do it saying we should have handled it differently.... semi-understandable but that goes to show he doesn't tolerate criticism. Worst first tattoo experience ever with a crew clearly concerned with the bottom dollar and not about the background or experience of the customer. read more

Let me tell you a story and lets cut the crap, My wife went up north to see some friends from college and I took the opportunity to do what I've only done once before - surprise her by getting ANOTHER tattoo from Illinois Tattoo Co. Husbands, I do not recommend doing this, however, if you have the type of wife that I have, go right ahead. She knows what's up and we love each other more than you know. But that's my own business so moving on... Chapter 1, I had limited time. Don't we all? I wanted to get the ink done as soon as possible in order to surprise my wife, and sleep my child. So I called a friend to watch my son while I got it done, I called Illinois Tattoo, and we set up what I would call a "rapid fire tattoo consultation" Speed - I appreciated how quickly these guys were on board to listen well, communicate well, and most importantly, ink well... Chapter 2, I had limited thinking. I sometimes operate on the principle, Ink first - think later (again I don't recommend this), however it just so happened that the baby sitter that I talked to also happened to be a great friend who was able to council me as we drove to the shop. I.T.C. was on board as soon as I walked i the shop and they finished off the details and casted vision for the idea. Gotta' love that equation: Your vision + brilliant minds + clear communication = great ink. Chapter 3, I needed a professional setting. These guys deliver. Look at the other reviews and see it for yourself. They're smart. They're clean. And they don't mess around when it comes to art. I appreciate this in a tattoo shop. I don't want some yahoo, heating up a paper clip in the back of his van with a bunson burner, and draining the ink of a bic atlantis pen poking up my dermis... It's for this reason that I believe Illinois Tattoo Company could also be labeled as "Incredibly Tidy Company". Very thankful for this, because I don't want my arm rotting off because I've concocted some unknown pathogen. I don't think you do either... These dudes make sure you are healthy and well taken care of. Don't settle for less in the category of health. Chapter 4, I needed a company. A Company is an entity that engages in business. However, a company could also be a word used to describe a family that works together to accomplish a specific goal. ITC's goal is to be the best tattoo shop in the greater BloNo area. Walter was the guy for the job and he made it happen, however, I've gotten other tattoos done by other members of this team. Alex. As I said before, I was in a hurry. I wanted to get the coordinates of the house I lived in during my years at ISU. It was here that the good Lord grew my love for Himself, my love for my fellow brothers in arms fighting the good fight of faith, and my love for my beautiful wife Courtney (or Toni if you know me well). Needless to say, these simple coordinates mean much much more to me than a neat, clean, 13-digit design can imply. Walter nailed it. He worked under pressure, under a time crunch, and under a newly formed relationship with a now lifelong customer. Chapter 5, So what happened when my wife got word and saw the ink? She booped a few buttons on her Iphone, texted back... "You're an idiot and I hate it..." JK-ing. She loved it! And so do I. Go to Illinois Tattoo Company. I was a walk-in for a tattoo in Hebrew on my wrist. Walter did an excellent job and gave good advice. He was professional all the way. Very clean and hygienic facility. I thought the price for 9 small letters in black was a bit high ($80) but it's been 16 years since I got a tattoo (a complicated animal in color for the same price!) I didn't try to haggle, but I might have been able to get the price down, since Walter just threw out a price off the top of his head. It would be useful to have a price chart, in my view. Safe, clean, professional. This is how I'd describe the shop. I work downtown and I met Chad and Nicole when they came around and introduced themselves as our new neighbors. Immediately I knew where I was going to continue my tattoo and piercing projects. Thus far, Nicole has stretched my septum twice and my nipples once, and she's awesome. And I'm a fairly advanced piercing enthusiast (single digit gauges and a few in private areas). Her bedside manner can't be beat and you'll feel comfy whether you're getting your first or your 20th piercing. Yesterday me and my mom went to Illinois Tattoo Co. to get each other's handwriting tattooed on us. From the start our "artist" Andrew Kemp didn't give a shit about any of our opinion, shot them all down. When he went to put the stencil on my wrist I told him that I thought it was a little slanted so I asked him if we could redo it and make it a little bit more straight. That's when he told me "it is straight" He made me get up and show him and proceeded to say it was straight and when I asked if we could just redo it to make it a little bit straighter he got an attitude with me "it's not gonna get any straighter but we can do it anyway " so after our tattoos he immediately bandage it up so we couldn't look at it for the next four hours. When we looked at it we were in complete shock the hand writing on my wrist looks nothing like my beautiful mother's handwriting. We gave him the piece of paper with both handwriting so it should've looked exactly like she wrote it. As you can see the u is completely not her u the "beeb is spaced weirdly apart and up a little bit. With my mom's Tattoo they didn't even finish my u in the word you. So anyways my mom proceeded to call them and tell them what had happened they both kind of had an attitude with each other. my mom for the right reason but the receptionist had the audacity to tell the owner Chad that my mom "cussed her out" Which absolutely did not happen. At that point I had already given them a reciew on google. so we came back today to have the owner Chad look at them. He was a complete douche and put all the blame on me and my mom saying that we chose where we put the The stencil. Except it doesn't matter if I put it sideways or upside down or anywhere else on my body the wording is still completely fucked up and not my moms handwriting. and you can't change the fact that he literally didn't even finish the u in my moms tattoo. Then before we were about to leave the owner Chad had brought up that I left a review on Google and said "I'm assuming you want to cancel your appointment with me in October" I said not really cause you're not the one I had an issue with it was Andrew. then he says "well I think it's just best if we cancel it" which kind of made me upset because I was super stoked to work with him for my cover-up on my dad's memorial tattoo. I came here to get my first tattoo because they accept walk-ins and I had heard good things. So I walked in to their beautiful studio (wood floors and great decor) and quite simply asked for a tattoo. Chad who is the owner took about 5 minutes to assess my needs and got to work. I walked in for a tattoo on the side of my hand. Walter seemed professional and courteous at the time. I asked his advice about the placement, and he advised that hand tattoos are not guaranteed against fading, and any touchups would not be free of charge. I asked if it would be better if it were done on my wrist instead of the side of the hand, to which he replied that no, it should be fine on the side of the hand if that's where I wanted it. The work was done in 15 minutes, and I tipped generously. 2 weeks later, it had healed. Some spots were perfectly dark and visible, while others were spotty and barely visible. I walked back in, thinking that maybe it needed to be inked deeper in the light spots. This is where the trouble started. He insisted that he had told me that the ink not looking right was a risk when getting a tattoo on the hand. Then he went in to a lengthy discussion of how specific areas are more prone to what he called "looking weird" than others, with specific examples. He said even if he touched it up, it could go back to looking exactly the same in another 2 weeks, and might never look like what was actually tattooed. None of this was discussed at the original appointment. The shop itself is clean, safe, and certified, but the customer service and professionalism of the artist I had leaves everything to be desired. read more
