Ilios recently installed a hanging neon sign for our wedding. The neon sign wiring required some cutting and re-rigging in order for the installation to look the way we wanted it. They placed the sign in a floral installation that was hung from a very high ceiling. The sign looked amazing and we didn't even notice the power cord running from the sign down to the outlet. Not sure how they pulled it all off. Very professionally done for a great price. read more

They're off the grid a bit, out across a few miles of bad road on the way out of the East side of town, but within Ilios Lighting there lurk boucoup surprises nonetheless: I was recently on the hunt for a gobo canister (the kind that project light through a metal die cut, thus throwing a logo or other art up onto a wall). Turns out that these guys have those lightning canisters handy, and they're cheap. I was able to rent mine for a genuinely reasonable number. The site suggests that if you've not rented with them before you should submit a request through the website and they'll get back to you: they may be super expedient to that end but in my case I rang them and we were able to sort the entire matter out over the phone with little to no trouble. And in the end, I netted a killer gobo light in the deal. Definitely worth a repeat trip. read more

While Adam Kirby was very responsive and personable via email, the overall execution of the lighting for our wedding was unacceptable. There were two major issues with our lighting, one was because our wedding planner, Jennifer Seals from Pearl Events was terrible and picked a projection design that we did not approved. The second issue was the twinkling wall we requested for our wedding. Ultimately, I'm upset because Ilios decided to use lights with green wires instead of white wires for our floor to ceiling twinkle wall. The wall had white curtains, so the green strands were incredibly noticeable to everyone at the wedding, and worse, the wires showed up very green in our pictures. I have no idea who thought that would acceptable. When I confronted Adam, he did not have a reason why they used green wires, as he said they have lights with white wires. Overall, really disappointed and appalled by the execution and I will not use this company again. read more

These people are REALLY good at what they do. There is no doubt about that. That being said... the "working with them" aspect of the process was frustrating. I felt like every few months I would have a new point person to talk to, and had to kind of start over. And some of the prices! Like renting two microphones and a speaker. You would die. While this conversation in no way happened, this is the feeling I got throughout our communication: Me: "you want **#$*$ how much for a microphone and speaker!!!???!?" I worked with Kellen on the set up, and they did a good job at a comparatively reasonable price. I would definitely recommend Ilios to others. As other reviewers noted there were very minor communication issues, but me having to call them back once or twice did not bother me. I got married at the Highball last month and hired Ilios to do the lighting for the ceremony. The ballroom/stage area of the Highball is dark, so we needed someone to add some light without making our wedding look like a school play. I initially didn't want to spend the money, but I'm really glad we did. The stage looked awesome. Our wedding coordinator worked with Kellen on the set up. I have never written a review on a company before but the lack of service and very poor communication by Ilios has prompted me to write this so that prospective brides can make an informed decision when considering Ilios. I sent an email for a quote in early February. My request was forwarded to Kellen and he never contacted me. After a couple of reminder emails and one month after my original request, I sent a follow-up email requesting that my inquiry be escalated to a manager since I had not yet received a response. This was about two weeks ago and they have not contacted me STILL. This company is in the service industry and they are doing an AWFUL job at servicing clients in Austin. Reading from the prior reviews, it appears they've had communication problems since 2010 but have not figured out how to fix it. read more

I came across two Ilios equipment vans parked illegally in the street downtown, so I stopped to let the crew know. I assumed they were simply unaware, since the city recently changed the street configuration. But based on their reactions they must have known and thought that street users were just less important than them. The first two people I interacted with seemed to not care and tried to blow me off ("Whatever, I'm not the driver"). But two guys rushed out anyway to move the vans -- which was great, I appreciated their hurry. That's when it got rude though. One of the crew members tried to tell me I was illegally standing on the sidewalk. What? Another made a rude comment about the "crackheads" in East Austin. There were a few other snarky and unprofessional comments which was all really uncalled for. I guess Illios employees are above the law. Or at least way more important than anyone else on the street. There were at least 3 or 4 people that had to squeeze by their vehicles during the 45 seconds of interaction. read more

After researching various lighting companies in Austin, I decided to spring for Ilios. They had a lot of glowing reviews online and for good reason. They were very easy to work with, professional from the start and extremely talented at what they do. Upon inquiring with them, Adam met with me in person at my venue to go over the set up and design of the lighting. The only thing I really wanted was soft uplighting along the walls, but he suggested putting pin spot lighting for each of the tables. I said sure and didn't think much of it at the time, but when I saw it all set up on my wedding day, the lighting effect was so beautiful inside. It really transformed the room and went with our theme and venue perfectly (soft, romantic, elegant). Ilios was also incredibly flexible; when I got my first quote from them, I asked if there was any way we could cut down costs as I wasn't expecting to spend that much on lighting. They were so nice and found a way to cut down my expenses a little bit, which made me feel a lot better going forward with them. The week of my wedding, the weather forecast was looking quite grim with a strong chance of rain (meaning possibly moving the ceremony from outdoors to indoors). The inside was definitely not as pretty as the outside courtyard, so I emailed Adam a few days before my wedding to see if we could add some last minute lighting inside to make it look nicer just in case. He responded right away and worked up something for us. It did end up raining on our wedding day, and at first, I was so worried that not getting married outside in the courtyard was going to take away from the beauty I had envisioned for our wedding. Yet, we were still able to have a really beautiful wedding inside with all the lighting Ilios had set up for us. In fact, all of our guests kept commenting on how gorgeous our wedding was and I have to honestly say that the lighting was one of the main reasons why! I would highly recommend Ilios again.
