But when I saw they had tiramisu and Toblerone flavors I had to get both. The two of us shared a small cup and it came with two flavors which was plenty for a quick gelato stop for us. It also couldn't have looked more inviting. We chose to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. It wasn't a sunny day but the outdoor seating did provide shelter from the misty rain. The waiter took our order (one Valtellinese pizza) and shortly our food arrived. I found it a nice touch that the kitchen split the pizza in half so we could share it easily. We were also given plates and silverware. L'Ambrosiano is no ordinary cafe. It's a bit classier. The pizza was delicious and covered amply in braseola and mushrooms. The sauce was slightly sweet and brought the whole pizza together. I did enjoy eating my pizza with a fork and knife, a far cry from folding it in half and eating with hands New York style. What a great way to enjoy Como. It topped off our morning of silk scarves, cloud bread, gardens, and farmers markets.

The spicy salami was actually spicy and was extra crisped which is actually how I prefer it. The bruschetta was very good and big portion. I give it three stars because it's more expensive than any other pizza I ate in Italy and there was nothing to justify that - the food was simple nothing fancy, it was not memorable, and I wouldn't go back.

I personally liked Gelab Gelataria and Gelato Crea Lake Como better, because of the gelato quality and being all natural. Andddd way shorter lines because they're not over hyped! In any case, if you do come when lines are short, get 3 flavors at once, and in a cup because their gelato is watery and melts FAST! I liked pistachio, stracciatella, and their caramel hazelnut. My friends liked their vanilla and peach. I admit there's better gelato elsewhere - even in and out of Italy. But sure, this is definitely the most popular spot in Como and near the water. I actually think that's why it's got the longest lines. Location, not quality.
