Walking along the Cambrils promenade we chose this restaurant because it looked classy and I love Italian food.
Arriving at around eight (pm) we were the first guests and apparently the waitstaff wasn't expecting anyone yet, so we were gestured to pick a seat. Now, the outside seating areas of these rows of restaurants are nothing special. My seat however was a wooden chair, much like the ones the KGB used to coerce a confession out of you. Only thing missing was a lamp shining in my face. Maybe I should have brought a cushion.
We were brought a single menu (in Spanish) and a QR code for the English menu. Which was pretty much identical to the Spanish menu because both were really more in Italian. Being a long-time Olive Garden customer we were able to piece together most items anyway.
Most people were ordering pizza - which looked really good! - but we wanted pasta. There were many pasta variations to choose from, and you combine with one of over a dozen sauces. Just like OG, sans the breadsticks or soups. Choice of starters - we chose pierina: a crispy thin pizza with a touch of cheese. I highly recommend it, not filling, a perfect starter.
I ordered their specialty "veal in sauce with side of spaghetti carbonara", the others had pasta. Food arrived quickly, so I assume they have all sauces ready and just cook the pasta of your choice for 8 minutes and add the sauce. Perfectly fine and efficient. But one point to complain about: Parmesan is preground and dry A.F. Probably came with the shaker in the 80's . 2:0 for OG.
The pasta was great, my pasta was also great. The veal - their specialty- not so much. The sauce was good, the meat wasn't : slices were 1/10" thin, of course dry, and had lots of grizzle. I don't know which part of the animal I got, I assume the leash, because it was not edible at all. So I enjoyed my spaghetti carbonara, which were delicious. Still, 3;0.
I have to admit though that the prices were very reasonable (3:1) and when I tried to tip, the waiter kindly declined: no tipping! With this the OG narrowly beats them 3:2 at the last minute!
So, this place is great for pizza and pasta, staff is friendly but bring a cushion ;-) read more
