My first visit to an Ikea store! There's not much to say other than "Wow!" Tried out their in-house dining facility. Interesting! Food was fine. The whole Ikea concept is clever and very well done. We'll be back to do some more shopping for sure. Just wish Ikea was more widely available.

My friend loves the meatballs. I am going to be honest here. We shared the seafood basket and the meatballs. The dish was splashed with cold and rubbery balls slathered in an unsatisfying gravy which was accompanied by a bowl of what must have been instant powder mash potato mix. The seafood basket was supposedly seafood shoved on top of a mixture of soggy and dry hot chips (fries.) The crab thing (it was not a crab cake of any description) was disgusting. The fish was, well the same sort of frozen fish you get at a cheap store which may have been heated up in a microwave. The furniture is very Ikea. It is almost as though all the innovative design has been drained out of the company. I did not come across anything that really grabs your attention. Sadly, people keep going back there rather than expanding their own knowledge and say designing or building something of their own.

Aka mother's club. Best days to get in and get what you want? Well I would say 10 am on a Tuesday. If you happen to be a Mum and enjoy the company of a myriad other mums with strollers, you'll feel very welcome here at IKEA Tempe. (did you know spellcheck on your computer will auto correct their name into capital letters?.. talk about famous) You can teach your toddler how to walk down the steps. You can even let them loose to play on the display bedrooms and in the toys. If you happen to be childfree like me, you might want to go in through the checkouts straight to the source of what you're after. It says exit, but hey I've never been one to follow signs, and in retail this is kinda expected as status quo. If you've got one of their catalogues which you can "borrow", each item you're after has a product code, and IKEA kindly provide computers on which you can search the exact location of your must have, want, need Ikea nick nack or furniture piece. You can then go in, get what you want, and get out before you accidentally max out the credit card on picture frames, scented candles and step stools. Highlights include, The Bistro which serves up decent and cheaply priced lunches and breakfasts. Usually Swedish themed like Gravlax or swedish meatballs. You can buy take home frozen versions of the ingredients downstairs. $1 hotdog. Say no more Gov'na Easy parking They have just about anything you can think of to fill your home with crap, while you dream about creating one those minimalist spaces featured in their catalogue. Catalogue makes good toilet reading.

IKEA IKEA has indeed put Sweden on the map for something special. This place is more then furniture that you can self assemble. This place is a world full of joyous things like Cinnamon buns, Swedish meatballs, open meat sandwiches, $1 hot dogs, daim chocolate and that's just off the top of my head. The place is massive and will take you a few hours to navigate around if your a serious shopper. The place opens up first with the showrooms which basically are model bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, office spaces, kids bedrooms and outdoor displays to give you inspiration on what you can find under the one roof. After walking around the showroom you might need a much needed food break and at this point it's a good idea to hit the dining hall. The place is built like a canteen with trays and you move along the line and order. Some of the highlights here are the Swedish Meatballs or fresh grilled salmon. I opted for the Swedish Meatballs with mash and fresh veg with a drink of Pear Cider. Whole things came to under $17 and I was stuffed after it. Swedish dining at its finest. I walked around downstairs to see what was on offer. Some good stuff of course but wasn't really after furniture but still stocked up on some fine Swedish lunch boxes. After you clear the checkout your welcomed to a world of food. Pretty much everything the restaurant is selling is available for purchase here. So perfect for those Swedish themed parties. I ended up buying some good chocolate. Visit wasn't compete without one more trip upstairs to try the Chocolate butter scotch cake and boy was that special. Delicious indeed. I couldn't leave without some cinnamon buns so decided to buy some and store them in my new lunch boxes. Good day out :)

I once got a phone call from my dad. I'm lost I don't know where I am. He sounded stressed, I asked him where he was and how can you be lost? He expanded then that he'd gone to IKEA with my mum, and they'd been separated. He was now aimlessly wandering round between lounge and bedroom displays, he'd found a flaw in the lab rat maze created by Swedish designers back in the 1990s. Fast Forward 15 years and here I am.... Separated from the pack... I know exactly how it happened I sat in a chair which reclines and produces a foot rest, its pretty cool exactly. I got distracted I closed my eyes and relaxed and when I woke they were gone... and I was surrounded by a pack of grey wolves... Look its IKEA you know the drill! I must say they seem to learn with every store they open to improve upon the last take home bush for example, nightmare parking if you get there after 6am. Tempe so much parking you could land a A380. One other thing I noticed as well... No cell coverage in the bowels of the store... Coincidence??? or were those Swedish Scientists monitoring my old man making his distressed telephone call, via cctv whilst eatin Daim bars and tattooing girls?

IKEA IKEA IKEA Everyone should know the Swedish supergiant of home furnishings! After being at the Rhodes ikea a few weeks ago I decided to go to the Tempe ikea (which is detached from any shopping centre) and just let loose and go crazy in there. As soon as you walk in you go straight up an escalator Into some mock rooms full of beds tables and sofas. Everyone is carrying around huge yellow ikea bags for all the little add on sales that you just can't turn down! Like a throw blanket for $4.99!! And microwave safe food containers for $1.99!! You just can't say no. Once you've found your way around the maze you'll end up where you started right next to the cafeteria! Lunch anyone? Swedish meatballs salmon chicken parmigiana all under $15 each and even kids meals for $3.49. And you can eat watching the aeroplanes taking off too!! Then you make your way down stairs through storage and electrical then to pick up your big bulky items! Bookcase or bed anyone? Once you've shopped till you've dropped make your way to the registers. You can even check your self out with self serve ;) And just when you think you've had enough you can pick up a slice of pizza and drink for $2.50 or a soft serve cone and flake for 70cents! Oh yeah ikea knows how to rock it!

When I was told that I was going to try some food from the IKEA restaurant I put myself into sixth gear for what I knew would be an experience like none other. Let me start at the beginning. Parking was easy, no time restrictions, no confusing multilevel car park, heaps of available spaces for a Sunday. The inside is setup to match other IKEA stores so you feel right at home. After heading up the escalators we found ourselves face to face (once we turned around) with the IKEA cafeteria. This is a food court IKEA style. Grab a tray and join the queue. I haven't had an experience like this since I was in hospital. The same sterile look. The waiting with slight shuffle of feet. The people behind you talk too loudly. Oh, memories. Salads. Deserts. Wait a minute, half litre cans of sparkling apple juice! Half litre?!? Now we're talking. It wasn't too long before we reached the hot food section of the line. There is an okay selection to choose from. I had to go with the Swedish meatballs with gravy and... JAM? Okay. Gotta show respect to my Swedish brothers and sisters. Seating was plentiful. The food was enjoyable but I believe most of the excitement came from the novelty of the whole experience. After the meal the tray went on a conveyor belt back into the kitchen. Once the meal was consume it was onwards to home shopping.

Ikea - well known for furniture and Swedish meatballs BUT their true 5/5 value lies in their chocolate butterscotch cake. O... M... G... So good that I can't share a slice with anyone. I need to get my own slice and savour every bite. Clearly I'm not the only one who knows about this goodness as an old couple behind me at the check out had 2 plates of the cake as well... and that's all they ordered. They definitely know where it's at! Best thing about this cake is it's gluten free. So all you gluten free peeps who have been deprived of delicious cake I urge you to head to ikea now and give this cake a go.

Not accepting paywave, paypass or Amex is a problem. No Apple Pay support so I couldn't use my visa either.

Buying furniture online is one thing, but second hand furniture at that - even scarier. Obviously Gumtree is the first point of call for that sort of thing but given a baaaad experience in the past with furniture from there, I wanted to buy in a shop, but couldn't afford to go Harvey Norman or the likes. So, with serious trepidation, my partner and I saw the stuff we liked and took the chance, thinking 'how bad can it be'?! And it wasn't bad - at all! Their descriptions online were completely accurate - they pointed out a stain in the arm of the sofa which was not even that noticeable when it arrived - and their prices were totally fair. They delivered, on a Saturday too, and bang on time - even giving me a call 24 hours before to discuss the time. All in all, from order to delivery, we were sat on our new sofa with 3 days and all my fears subsided! It was clean, comfy and the TV unit was actually a really strong and well made thing - no plywood or dodgy loose connections! So, seriously recommend this place and I am so happy I have found somewhere I can buy from again and don't have to trawl through the awfulness of Gumtree again!

Sibella is an interior stylist from Sydney and she contributes regulary to Vogue Living and Inside Out. She has spent considerable time in New York with two of her clients being Bergdorf Goodman and Bloomingdales. Her store in Paddington is magically inspiring with a collage of the bohemian, the old, the new, the well loved, mix of home wares and fabrics and pre-travelled items from twine, luggage tags, antique paper clips to pegs. I wander for some time admiring lIttle sailing ships, rusty antique scissors, medicine jars filled with little knick knacks and a hanging armchair. These items are reflective of her signature talent to bring extra to the ordinary. We learn that Sibella Court joined the Merivale team and worked on the creative direction with Kelvin Ho for this upmarket noodle bar and York 75 the newly renovated sports themed bar that was originally CBD. From gumball machines to Bakelite dishes, the antique merchandise has been well selected. If I had all the money in the whole world, I would have purchased two things here. First, I would have become the proud owner of a 60s desk with laminated world map covering its surface. However, by far the most interesting item in this whole shop is the 1960's home sauna. This contraption looks like a refrigerator with a head hole cut in the top. I can only guess that one climbs on it and shuts the door trapping oneself inside from the neck down and then.... Bakes?
