However, I've since noticed that the stuff that has since broken was either: a) put together by me, or b) broken by me when I fell over. Everything else is still fine five years later. It sits opposite Temple Meads and they sell complete sets of wooden bedroom furniture, beds, tables, mirrors and the like. They have friendly staff who will help you carry your goods to their handy off street car park around the back. Once you get it back, make sure you: a) apply the requisite amount of glue, and b) dry your feet when you get out of the shower. Do this and you can get a bargain!

Any fears will go when you talk to the lovely owners - a couple of guys who I'm guessing have worked their way up from a pokey little shop in out of town high streets to get this high-profile spot opposite the train station. They know their stuff, have a down to earth attitude and don't try and push sales onto you. I bought my bed frame from here, which they delivered promptly and carried up my stairs. I chose to put it together myself and the instructions were clear as a bell. It was really well made and has survived being taken apart and back again when we had to get it out of the way to put carpets in. They also sell mirrors, bedside tables and dining tables. They have a choice of woods ranging from pine to oak so you can find what will suit your budget. If you're stuck just ask as they know their stock inside out and what they have coming in soon as well.

The prices aren't outstanding though. There are some bargains to be found but for example a lot of the electronics stuff is the same price you'd find them in Dixons. Don't go expect a massive bargain frenzy. There are no 'normal' checkouts in this place- every checkout is self-service, which is fine if your shopping basket is not too big but it can end up getting chaotic if your basket has DVDs (that have age restrictions), or clothes (that have tags).

It's pleasant enough to walk round and browse, though the majority of things are in their catalogue and the actual store is just a fraction of what they sell. If you can leave your moral objections at the door, it's a good shop.

The staff are very knowledgeable, and from time to time they even run sugarcraft lessons in the shop! It is also possible to hire cake tins, stands and even special cake knives from them.

Difficult to pinpoint, the Guild offers not just ridiculously over priced kitchen accessories but also smaller trinkets and gifts, postcards and gourmet food - you know the kind, fancy jars of jelly beans and unpronounceable preserves. The various sections within this surprisingly large shop cater for the kitchens, living rooms and what I consider the best bit - kids bedrooms. Cuddly toys and traditional board games are on offer, as well as the more unusual, such as life-size green dogs made from moulded rubber. Bristol Guild is the kind of place I imagine Kirsty Allsopp would frequent if she lived round these parts, and is somewhere that should make it on to your list if visiting the area.

There are some hidden gems in here if you are willing to give the gallery some quality time, however I have never really found anything that tickles my fancy. The meat here is great, a lot of European spicy meat can be found here, as can lobsters and crabs if your feeling a little fancy. There's also a great selection of wine here and without sounding like a wino, most of the stuff my lovely and I try there and is very reasonable in price. Room 212 is the sort of place one can't write a lot about. Not because it lacks any particular…read morestyle or character. In fact it has great deals of both. Rather, because it is dynamic. It is an art space constantly changing. A collective of sorts, each week different artists can use the shop to display their art works. Some will use just the window and open for an hour a day. Others may open all day every day with their doors wide open to the public. And being different artists all the time they all have different contact details too. The one thing I can say is that every time I have walked past this original little number I have walked in. Something about the creativity or the freshness just pulls me in. So if local and independent artists doing their thing is what you like - see if you can walk by without stopping.
