I have been coming to this location since they opened. They have always given me a 20% military discount for me an my wife. Once they only discounted mine. Sunday they took 10% $1.07 on my entree and nothing for the drink. The manager said her boss said to only give 10%. I shop IHOP all over the country and always get 20%. I would advise all military and veterans to boycott this location and go to the Bentley West Des Moines location where they offer the 20% discount for the member and their immediate family. I recommend this place if you don't want over priced food in the Waukee area. It was swamped with people, yet AJ, our server was kind, courteous and took care of us quickly. The food was good. When we are busy running errands, and looking for consistency of affordable price, we could always count on the IHOP near us. No, the food isn't spectacular and over-the-top. It's basic breakfast, lunch and dinner fare, but always well prepared. We have always found that services quick here and this staff is always professional. I sometimes find the interior of this restaurant, too cool, especially in the summer when the AC is running. I can take a sweater though and enjoy a quick quality meal. read more

Food is not bad. It's about what you would expect from IHOP. The server was very nice. The coffee was good but kind of lukewarm, which annoyed this coffee fiend. Now for the really "meh". It took forever to get our food, and when it came it was just warm, not hot. I suspect our plates were under heat lamps for a while before our food was brought to us. The new ihop in Waukee is exactly what you would expect of a pancake house. The decor of this new building is trendy and it's located on one of the busiest corners. The dining room is spacious. Hosts greeted us immediately and showed us to a booth right by the kitchen entrance-a very high traffic area. Our waitress was quick to show up and ask for our drink orders. The kids colored away on their placemats and were ready for refills by the time our food came. One kiddo enjoyed the Oreo pancakes, another the cupcake ones. My oldest went for the brioche French toast and ate the whole thing! I opted for a create your own omelet and it was well made. So, my friend and I are both chefs ( I am actually retired) who became friends at a place we worked at together. To keep contact we started to have breakfast together about twice a month and a dinner about once a month. The breakfast place we went to regularly closed so we figured we'd try IHOP. So we started to go to the IHOP on SE 14th. One busy Subday winter morning when we observed an ice formation that was a possible hazard for entering diners, we mentioned it to John, the Manager. He was grateful and in what I now have come to know is his customer service par Excellnice manner, we struck up a conversation during which time he mentioned that he was going to open this new IHOP in Waukee. He invited us to check it out .So, my friend and I resolved to do just that . At this time I have to mention that my friend really likes Patty melts and the IHOP in DSM is the only place that he had found them . He could care less that there is no rye bread, he'd just as soon have sour dough any way. So, we kept going to the DSM IHOP for that reason..... Until today. So we planned that today we would check out the IHOP in Waukee. Yay! Brand spanking new- ULTRA CLEAN and we food service folks get it that a new spot with still-training staff ( both in front and back of the house) have bug-aboos that take time to iron out. Well,if there are any they were not in evidence. Our food arrived hot and in a timely manner; brought to us by our server Nicki, who was professional and friendly without unnecessary familiarity and hovering. Her attitude was pitched perfectly. The first IHOP I went to was this one. I was nervous because Chain Breakfast isn't always that good. IHOP is super good. The food is what sets this place apart. Food orders are rarely correct and they have smaller size pancakes than most IHOPS (They are Iowa sizing the pancakes) and they are Iowa stingy on butter (You would think butter is gold with these guys). This place isn't close to the standard of other IHOPS in other states and they told me they are doing great. So we will see I am betting they don't make it (They have another location off of Merle Hay where there is no competition and this is leading them to believe they know what they are doing). read more

Very disappointing experience, we only saw our server twice, once to get us drinks and once to deliver our subpar food. I had the tres leches Mexican pancakes and they were ok, average at best. One thing that I thought was odd was that they weren't warm, weren't cold, but served somewhere in the middle. My boyfriend ordered a burger and it was definitely below acceptable. Not once were we offered refills. The only person doing any work was Jayce, he was polite when he sat us, always had a smile on his face. Oh, and did I mention he was the only one working consistently? They need more Jayce's. What they don't need more of is Rikki's. She was yelling at staff members saying they were being lazy as she sat in a booth. Less of Rikki please! Another lady that worked there just walked around berating children. She touched one kids' leg, she asked them weird questions, and she even went as far as yelling at a child for knocking over the hot sauce when she herself did it. Only had to wait about 10 min to get seated and it was very busy. Our server Kylie S. was amazing, really helped us with our difficult orders and was very sweet. Food came out pretty fast, but I got a churro pancake, bacon, and eggs and the frosting from my pancake was on one of my pieces of bacon and some of my eggs. I went there for breakfast today. Service and food was very good. The problem was with trying to pay for my meal. Host said he was going to seat customers and would be back to collect my payment. In the meantime, more customers came in and the host seated them instead of taking the fews minutes to ring up my bill and take my money. After the fourth time this happened, I just left my cash there and left, forgetting that the waitress had changed my $20 for five's and one's. My bill was $9.82. I left $2.00 on the table for the waitress and forgot to take my other 2 five's. Therefore I paid $20.00 plus $2.00 tip for a $9.82 meal. I guess lesson learned. I waited for 10-15 minutes for some staff to get us seated, but no one approached us. I did see there are empty tables available. Its the courtesy of the staff to wish the customers and ask them to wait till they have chance to get them seated. The staff saw us but nothing of that sort happened. After a softball game - my family and I decided to try the new IHOP that had opened in Waukee. We were immediately seated by a young man. After that it went down hill - it took almost five minutes for server to come get our drink order. Once she brought back the drinks, she took our orders. When we received our orders - mine was incorrect, she didn't care. She never came back to check on us, never refilled our drinks, bring me additional fries that I would of liked to have with the "unlimited fries" promotion. Additionally, there was out of control patrons in the restaurant, it seemed like the MOD was not doing a good job - way overstaffed - servers just standing or sitting in booths. Honestly, I wanted to leave before I ordered because I was just extremely disappointed in the environment that this IHOP had. However, my family wanted to stay and try it. Unless the Management reaches out to make this right - I will never return, ensure social media/review websites know of this experience, and tell my friends, family and others that - that if you want an awesome dining experience, do not go here unless you looking for a disappointing dining experience. read more

We were seated fairly quickly but we had to wait over 20 minutes for someone to take our order. The woman who finally did come was the manager, I think, and was very kind and helpful. Took awhile for us to get seated, as soon as we were sat at our table we were told our waiter would be with us soon. No one approached us for 20 minutes but we felt very uncomfortable because some waitresses were bickering/arguing in front of customers. I haven't been to an IHOP in a few years and they just opened this one so we went in to give it a try. Compared to the last one I went to in South Des Moines ,I didn't even make it past the front because the staff was seating everyone that came in behind us first so out the door we went. Ricky was out server and she was very efficient . They were a little busy but it was good to see staff working together to get everyone helped , especially Nic ( I think that was her name) who was working very hard!
