I grew up in the area and have fond memories of the pork tenderloin sandwiches. I finally returned to try it again after 25 years or so and I have to say I was disappointed. It looks almost exactly as I remember it the last time I was there all those years ago. So that's a star for nostalgia. The pork tenderloin sandwich was tasty (though smaller than I remember it) so that was good too. The thing that was really disappointing was the service. It was pretty bad. We sat at the counter and our server took our order and dropped it off never to be seen again. Which was really disappointing because my sandwich was missing all the toppings I ordered and because it was small I wanted another. But with no server I guess I was SOL. My wife and son joined me later and also wanted to order food. But after another ten minutes our server was still missing in action. Finally we were able to flag another server while they were ringing someone else out and was able to get another order in. The place isn't that big so there's really no excuse for poor service. Our $.00 tip precisely reflected our satisfaction. Also we watched an apparent regular at the end of the counter get really good service so I guess if they know you, you're golden. Good luck if this is your first visit. Also I don't really get the arcade in the back. I don't remember it being there before, but it's been a long time. But seriously, who has arcades in restaurants anymore? People shouldn't be coming in to play video games. They should ditch it and put more tables back there or something. But only if they hire competent servers. Additionally they don't accept credit cards, only "cash and personal checks." Which is really an unnecessary inconvenience in this day and age. Often no credit cards is a sign that a restaurant may be having some financial troubles. The Igloo has been around for decades and have a lot of old loyal customers but sadly, after this last visit, I wonder how much longer it's going to last. read more

After reading the reviews, I thought this place would be worth it's 15 minute detour off I-39. IT'S NOT! Sorry, I can't share the love for this place. I ordered fries, the pork sandwich, and a chocolate shake. The shake was thick, but it's was barely chocolate, it was a tan color. The fries, as originally stated, were limp as can be. Really gross, the oil they were fried in tasted old and nasty! Not good... The pork was DRY and very underwhelming. I would skip this place...skip your way on. I've been a vegetarian for 21 years now, however this is my favorite restaurant throughout the world (and I've done some fairly extensive travelling) bar none! They fries are the best! Small little restaurant. Small menu. But great food! Ordered the Cowboy up burger. My drink came out fast and in a frosty mug! The root beer is homemade and tastes great! They have a combo plate with their sandwiches and includes fries and a salad (no substitutions). when the good cane out, it was played well and not sloppy. Although the salad came in a small Styrofoam cup. Maybe 4-5 bites worth. The "Italian" dressing is a red wine vinaigrette. The burger was cooked and not dry. The fries are home cut and you can tell. They, as well were good. They have pies for dessert. I ordered the "Dutch Cherry Pie. It wasn't played the best. Kinda sloppy. But tasted great!! Not sure if they're homemade or what. But good none the less. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to any person near the area, out of town, or out of state. I guess you could say The Igloo is pretty...cool. Hahahaha read more

Clearly a local favorite...and I'm not a local. Kinda dark inside, the menu is on a lit sign on the wall...so I had to turn in my chair to be able to read it. The menu items had no descriptions, so I had to guess what I was gonna get. I had the brat deluxe, which I figured would BE a brat, but it was what I was hoping it wasn't...a flat, greasy, brat patty. Food is not served on plates, but wrapped in paper. I do not live locally but I have family in Granville and would visit often when I was younger. The Igloo would always be a first stop, last stop and several in between. It had been years since my last visit and I had to stop on my way through town for a little nostalgia. I was happy to see that the place has barely changed over the years. I just don't understand why so many people like this place. Is it out of loyalty? Herd mentality? I love a good pork tenderloin sandwich, and since they are sometimes hard to find I ordered one here. I was very disappointed. The tenderloin was small, and the bun was one of those small buns which I could have bought an 8 pack of at Walmart for around a buck. My husband had a burger with BBQ sauce and an onion ring, also on a dinky bun. Neither of us thought they were worth the price. We both had french fries, which were on the burnt side. The side salad was laughable. A few pieces of lettuce, barely enough dressing, and to add insult to injury, it was in a styrofoam cup. The small unimpressive portions were not worth the price. The Igloo is a classic restaurant that demands a re-visit... especially if you live out of state and were once familiar with this neighborhood restaurant. It doesn't feel like you are going to a restaurant when you arrive but rather a time warp to something far simpler that you enjoyed as a kid. Over the years I have decided a few things in a restaurant can determine the establishment's worth. One menu item especially, is the tenderloin. If you are selling it, it better be epic. Growing up near this restaurant I never ventured past their simple cheeseburgers and fries. Why? Because they are always great! However, on my last visit to the Igloo I tried the legendary pork tenderloin and I thought this was the 'Holy Grail' of tenderloins and was completely unimpressed. It was not large in size - which was once a bragging right my friends from high school gave this place. There was no texture in the tenderloin and was flat as a pancake with a rather bland taste. I decided to go further in experimenting on the menu list in front of me and got their chili. I was not impressed with this either. Steak N Shake's chili is far better. It's hard to give this place a mediocre review because as a kid I believed in this joint. Coming here to eat was the grand prize for doing something right in life. Now, it just seems to be a cool neat place where the building itself only stands out. I will always return and hope in time the new owners can make me change my mind on their mediocre tenderloin. read more

This used to be a great place to get a quick and good meal, but recently the food and service have declined while the prices have gone up. The last time i was at the igloo the waitress was more worried about sending texts instead of waiting on people. When we finally did get our food, it was alright, nothing special. The waitress did not bring us our fries and she didn't want to take them off of our bill. The previous few times at the igloo I had a similar experience. So I am no longer a patron. read more

I just love this place. The owner and his brother are nice and will do anything you ask, even warm up you pie and put ice cream on it. When you are here try their onion rings, they are sinful, as is their chili and soups. Fresh made daily, not from a can. I first visited the Igloo some 40+ years ago. It has always been good, well known for their pork tenderloin sandwiches. Have visited many times over the past 4 decades, almost always getting the pork T. Even when the original family neared the end of their ownership, the food was always good, but the tenderloins seemed to be getting thinner. Stopped for dinner this evening to see how things have changed with the new owners, I was plesantly surprised. The tenderloins are back to their previous portion size. The fries could be less greasy, but they're still good. The strawberry-rhubarb pie put the finishing touch to a nice meal. I now live about 75 miles away and whenever I'm out for a motorcycle ride in the Peru area, I try to time it to go to the Igloo for something to eat. I have a mental list of several places in various directions from home to head for around meal time and the Igloo is on top of the list for the LaSalle-Peru area. It's not the most decorated eating establishment, but I never liked the taste of wallpaper or paint. The food is why I visit. read more
