This IGA - aside from being amazing in all the ways I described in my original review - seems to be setting the standard for how to properly operate under the current conditions so I wanted to share in the hopes of other grocery stores following their lead. When you arrive here, all the doors are closed except for one and when you enter that one there's a portable handwashing station like you'd see outside portopotties at a festival. So everyone is washing their hands as they enter. Then they are given a cart which has just been wiped down by the staff. Staff are also circulating wiping down the handles of fridge doors etc. Cashiers are using sanitizer between every customer and as you leave your cart is immediately wiped down again. This loving attention will save lives in our community and I really really appreciate it.

I did want to update to add that they have an amazing big smoker that sits in the parking lot smelling crazy delicious. There is a small area in the butcher section of house smoked goods - we tried the trout last week and it was just so flavourful. We chatted with the gent in charge of the smoker and he said if you call a couple days in advance you can get a whole fish smoked for you, or a cut of local meat. Later that day we were at a tiny community festival in the park, and a few people from the Marché were there giving out free bites of waffles, and they recognized us right away from earlier in the day and said hi and made sure we'd remember their names for next time. All this to say, long live small town grocers!

There's a huge section of good looking prepared foods, and a sizeable Beer and wine offering as well - I really felt like this was one of those magical places that is bigger on the inside!! My most enthusiastic stars go to the fish specialist we chatted with on our most recent adventure however. She didn't mind at all chatting about ocean safe, and sustainable and low mercury options, she was patient and interested and knowledgeable and then had some tasty cooking ideas for the local lake trout we ended up with. In fact everyone we've interacted with here has been great, fluidly bilingual and happy helpful. There are cheaper options if you're doing an econo shop but this IGA is truly great for what it is.

This is yet another grocery store in St Jovite / Mont Tremblant, this one is not among the 3…read morebiggies along the highway but instead is tucked on the sweet little main street Rue Principle, near the Bourassa and across from a bakery and just steps from the rest of the cute restaurants and shops in town. The Metro feels way more like a family grocery store than the ginormous Super C on the highway and if I need to pick up a few quick things after working in the Couleur cafe I'll pop over here. The produce and meats and fish seem fresh, though I'd love to see more of an emphasis on local sustainable providers. Fish in particular should always be clearly marked with its origin since this industry is so dirty and problematic these days. The staff are super friendly and bilingual for the most part, and again this grocery has a surprisingly good selection of local microbrews and then the usual SAQ wines. All in all a great option in the area!

The Saint Sauveur location is a star child of this facelift. You're entering a 64,600 sq. ft. showpiece that is bright, well lit and spacious. Upon entering you'll first notice a massive patisserie counter with cupcakes, macarons and other gourmandises. Fresh produce will be a few steps behind. The new concept has a selection of "boutiques" along the perimeter, like a deli counter, charcuterie, oyster/shrimp bar and cheese counter with the prettiest 2 feet tall glass fridge containing an impressive array of local and imported cheeses. There is also a Joe Fresh collection of apparel for adults and children. The Loblaws/Provigo brand excels in going above and beyond to turn grocery shopping into an experience. The food is premium and gourmet, sampling stations are delish. Everything was taken into consideration, there's nothing boring or traditional about this store, even the floor is a popping orange. To make your shopping trip more enjoyable, the couple times I went over the holidays, they had a live jazz band playing! If you were dragged along and didn't feel like shopping, take a seat at the cantine and make use of their free wifi! Yes the prices are higher than what you would find at other grocery chains, this location caters to tourists and skiers - however if you're purchasing specialty goods, it is worth it, you'll find things that are uncommon elsewhere.
