We made tapioca, cheese bread, steak, veggies, and rice. It was delicious! Additionally, we made unlimited caipirinhas so the entire class became happily hydrated and full by the end of the class. The instructor added a lot of Brazilian history as we made the meal. Although it was a holiday, the event was still on in the quaint shopping store location that was closed but opened only for our cooking event.

From start to finish it was one of the most memorable experiences from our week-long visit. Simone and her team were so welcoming, accommodating, kind, interesting and we learned so much. Simone's insight on Brazilian/Carioca culture and life was appreciated and we found her to be a great source of knowledge on some of the questions we had built up in our time in Brazil. As for the cooking, it was very hands-on and we participated in each part of the meal creation. The food was excellent and easy enough for us to (try to) make on our own. Immediately upon returning home, I went to find as many of the ingredients as I could to replicate the dishes we made with Simone. The teachers are native speakers, professional, kind, welcoming and love what they do. I started from just few words and now I have reach the advanced level. The school also offers activities after class, tours, samba classes and you can also volunteer and help the community with your time. The also have online classes. It's a fun and joyful way to learn Portuguese immersing yourself in the Brazilian culture!

They use videos, songs, cooking classes, field trips to the beach and to the market, short stories...oh and grammar books I took level B and C and the conversation course and enjoyed all of them. Fernando is one of my favorite teachers and I continued to do some private lessons once they ran out of classes for me. In addition to offering classes, this school has an activity every singe day. When I was there, Monday's they would play volleyball on the beach, Tuesday they would play a Brazilian film at night, Wednesdays there were samba classes...and I can't remember what the other 2 days were, but I just love the many different ways they help you to continue practicing Portuguese even outside of your classes. They are affiliated with an orphanage too so some of the money you pay for classes (which is much cheaper than most other places) goes to the orphanage. I highly recommend this place! The one down side is that the group courses that are offered are every single day of the week for 3 hours so if you have a tight schedule, you'll have to do private classes, which are not as interactive. I hope they make group classes that are perhaps 3 days a week for people who don't have every day available.

The class was fun, relaxed, and comfortable! The hour went by quickly --- Helio speaks perfect English and is really funny. His teaching style is great --- you pick up the moves very quickly! Wished we could have joined in on the club dancing (another option). The location is somewhat tough to find (address is spot on, but it's in the back of a clothing store). Whateva --- I'm not taking away a star for that!
