Portuguese school for foreigners, this school has been in the area many years now and I was very fortunate to study there. The teachers are native speakers, professional, kind, welcoming and love what they do. I started from just few words and now I have reach the advanced level. The school also offers activities after class, tours, samba classes and you can also volunteer and help the community with your time. The also have online classes. It's a fun and joyful way to learn Portuguese immersing yourself in the Brazilian culture! read more

Honestly, this school is the best! The teachers are all fun yet professional and teach you in many different ways. They use videos, songs, cooking classes, field trips to the beach and to the market, short stories...oh and grammar books I took level B and C and the conversation course and enjoyed all of them. Fernando is one of my favorite teachers and I continued to do some private lessons once they ran out of classes for me. In addition to offering classes, this school has an activity every singe day. When I was there, Monday's they would play volleyball on the beach, Tuesday they would play a Brazilian film at night, Wednesdays there were samba classes...and I can't remember what the other 2 days were, but I just love the many different ways they help you to continue practicing Portuguese even outside of your classes. They are affiliated with an orphanage too so some of the money you pay for classes (which is much cheaper than most other places) goes to the orphanage. I highly recommend this place! The one down side is that the group courses that are offered are every single day of the week for 3 hours so if you have a tight schedule, you'll have to do private classes, which are not as interactive. I hope they make group classes that are perhaps 3 days a week for people who don't have every day available. read more

Casa do Caminho was fantastic! I learned more in two months here than in 6 years of traditional language education in the U.S. - no exaggeration! The teachers are friendly, well spoken, and best of all, they know how to teach. I would definitely send friends here who were looking to learn (in fact, I have!). read more

I purchase 5 private classes for my husband. My husband scheduled the class for 2pm-3pm our time. The teacher called Rio time. They will not refund or reschedule the class. It was a miscommunication. They should have stressed the time zones for the class. They tell my husband to connect to the class from his phone since he is not at home so he can still do the class. They took 20 minutes of his time only to tell him they can't connect because their phone is not charged. He could have drove home and connected to his computer and got at least 30 minutes of the class instead of waiting on them. I am disappointed and completely dissatisfied. read more

Our portuguese school is located in Ipanema 4 blocks away from the beach. We offer a diverse and enriching learning Curriculum using a communicative interactive approach. We also offer a homestay/accomodation program, airport Pick-up and visa service for our students. Our native Brazilian teachers are all highly qualified, trained, experienced and passionate about students learning whilst focusing on maximizing students' potential. We offer both group, private and in company classes. Small group classes (4-10 people) facilitate the opportunity for teachers to focus on students' needs as well as create an opportunity for the students to interact. Our material incorporates a variety of learning tools which focuses on grammar and vocabulary, as well as a range of Portuguese rules.

History

Established in 2009.

In 2009 Bart Bijen, the manager of the Casa do Caminho Orphanage saw the need to start a social business to attract funding for the social project. Fundraising is very difficult in Brazil and agressive marketing tools such as telemarketing didn't feel right. Since the orphanage was focussed on education a language school made sense. Wtih the support of volunteers, 1 contracted teacher and 1 classroom location in Ipanema the school started in the beginning of 2009. Within only 3 months the school had to move to a larger location. In the following years the school developed as " the portuguese school in Rio" and because the profits go to kids at Riks many students felt they where learning and supporting at the same time. Sadly enough in 2014 the orphanage closed down. The language centre now develops it's own social project. The objective is the same " provide opportunities for kids at risk".

Meet the Business Owner: Jascha L.

Jascha Lewkowitz came to Brazil in 2008 for the first time and visited the Casa do Caminho where his friend Bart ( now business partner) was the managing director. In 2010 Jascha returned to Casa do Caminho for a volunteer period of 3 months were he left an unforgettable impression. In 2011 Bart invited Jascha to manage the school. Jascha built a small school out to the biggest Portuguese school in Rio. He also developed a whole social network by organizing lots of low cost or free social and cultural activities for the students, such as: Beach Volley, City Tours, Hikes, Soccer games, Samba Classes and Cinema. In 2013 Bart & Jascha became business partners of the Casa do Caminho Language Centre. Jascha is on the one hand continuously working on improving the quality of the school. On the other hand new social projects are developed.

I loved the Casa do Caminho Language School. The group classes where high quality, dynamic and the teacher was professional. The organizations donates profits to children in need. The school is in the heart of Ipanema and close to Post 9, so you can't beat the location. The school has free wifi, coffee and toilet facilities. The school also organizes a variety of activities for every night of the week including Beach Volleyball, Brasilian Movies, Samba Dancing with a local Samba teacher and other excursions such as going to places like Tijuca Rainforest and Christ The Redeemer. I was able to learn Portugese fluently and also gained a great network of friends through Casa do Caminho. I Highly recommend Casa do Caminho! read more

Une école de Portugais exceptionnelle. Des professeurs très professionnels et efficaces, le tout dans une ambiance très détendue avec pleins d'activités permettant de rencontrer beaucoup de personnes, de lier contact, de pratiquer le portugais... et de s'amuser, le tout en soutenant le programme social du centre. Took the level C group course there and my Portuguese really got much better. Couldn't be more enthusiastic about the very professional and motivated teachers! The school also offers a lot of free activities. So it`s easy to integrate and find new friends. Really had a great time there! Also prices are considerably lower than in other schools in Rio.This is because most of the other language schools have to pay big commissions to European and North American agencies to send them students. Caminhos doesn't do this, so they can afford to offer the courses for very fair prices. read more

Wonderful environment, great teachers, and tons of free "extra-curricular" activities. Come and learn here and you won't regret it! I stayed with a host-family that the school helped me find. It was an awesome experience that I highly recommend for anyone who is seriously considering learning Portuguese. I went from just knowing a little to learning all the ins and outs of the difficulties in Portuguese Grammar and becoming totally conversational. read more

It is a really good place to learn portuguese, and the price of the class is reasonable. I took class A for one month.And I can do some simple conversation with Brazilians. Teachers there are nice and full with patience,they really know how to teach. Usually they have activities after the class everyday, everyone can join for free and keep practicing portuguese by hanging out with the staffs and classmates. I had a very good experience there. read more

Knowledgeable teachers, helpful administration and a great place to meet people. They offer activities during the week so when you are not busy studying take the Samba class or the weekly tour. The best part is this is a non profit organization that supports orphans and under privileged chilren, so your money is being well spent. read more
