The biggest mistake we did was not to do our homework and read yelp. The prices are expensive and the owner is rude.
Last week I brought my friend to plaza Rio for some shopping and she decided to get her hair done. We unfortunately walked into the twilight zone. I have never been so belittled and humiliated by the owner of an establishment. When my friend that only speaks english tried to talk to the hair dresser named Andres, my other friend and I had to translate. what she wanted was to straighten the side burns and the edge on the back of her neck, her hair is about 3 inches long and my blush brush has more hair than what she got straighten. At no time were the prices shown to us or discussed. My friend has had this done before in the states in good solons for $25 to $35 so she did not imagine it being anymore then that. She also was thinking about dying her hair but time did not allow for it . When the straightening was done, she went to pay and the owner of the place charged my friend a OUTRAGEOUS PRICE OF $85. I tried to talk to her and to Andres to be reasonable. They pointed out to the very small sign that had the pricing. For straightening it started at 1,500 pesos or $85. The owner said that they only use the very best products and that the whole head of her hair would cost her 4,200 pesos. I tried to make them see that it was not a just price but what took me back was what the owner had to say. She first told me that she know why I was making a fuss and that I just wanted to get away without paying. I was straight with her and told her that we just want to pay a fair price. Then she continues to say that the products they use are the very best, I don't know about that because part of here hair started to kink. Then she asked me if I had any idea of how much rent she had to pay. Then she continued to drill me and asked me if I knew how much Andres had to pay to get his Hair Stylist Degree. And to top it off THE OWNER MAKES A GENERALIZATION ABOUT US AMERICANS ,said that she knows what the problem is that when Americans come to Mexico they think that the mexican people work for nothing. By that time workers and clients of the solon were looking at us. It was humiliating and embarrassing. My friend took out the money and paid the $85. She asked Andres a question in english and he responded quite well in english (remember, he dose not understand English) The next day, a friend of mine that speaks spanish well ,calls this salon and asked what it would cost to straighten a whole head of shoulder length hair and instead of 4,200 pesos like what the owner quoted my friend , they quoted my her 2,400 pesos. So a person with shorter hair pays more then someone with longer hair?
By reading the other yelps, I find a common thread to this place , IT"S EXPENSIVE AND CLIENTS ARE TREATED RUDELY!!!!!! read more
