So happy we did. The bread basket alone was the first indicator - they had such an array of options and all of it was warm and fresh - the focaccia was literally the best I've ever had, it was oily and salty in itself, and so rich to snack on before the food arrived The mozzarella Caprese was so fresh and delicious. The tomatoes were perfectly ripe, the cheese was clearly fresh and highly quality. Only available in Italy like that for sure. I tried the sea bass the first night - amazing. Falls off the fork it's cooked so tenderly, and the lemon sauce, everything was perfect. The second night, i had the lasagna which was also incredible and so visually stunning, just this round pasta in layers of gooey cheese, meat and sauce. On the first night My friend had the seafood pasta wjicj she was raving about, on the second night she had the pasta trio which wasn't worth ordering. Everything else was seriously amazing and the prices weren't insane despite positano being the most expensive leg of the trip. Totally would come back.

The crypts are very cool - the villa is unbelievable. Currently only one room of the villa has been excavated, but that includes two walls with the most spectacularly preserved frescos - way better than any of the walls in Pompeii. The details are so well preserved that there are still plaster reliefs of cherubs, sea horses, etc. on the walls. It was stunning. The whole tour is absolutely worthwhile - our tour guide was great and knew a lot about the site. She said they're currently working on excavating other sites in the vicinity - hopefully that's successful! Either way this is a can't-miss stop in Positano. The tour was quick, about 20 minutes, and worth every penny.

He picked us up at the dock in Positano shortly before sunset. We had a short sunset cruise before dinner while he told us about some of the local area and we chatted about our lives. We were able to sit on the couch on the front deck of the boat (felt like celebrities!). We pulled up to the dock at Lo Scoglio as the sun went down and enjoyed a leisurely dinner there. Quite honestly, while all of the other Amalfi Coast cities look generally the same, Positano is in a league of it's own. The town is built vertically, with winding narrow (basically one person at a time) staircases and narrow pathways connecting boutique shops, cafés, and terraces at every level. You can reach the top fairly quickly. Nearly every turn offers a new photo opportunity. The beach scene is lively with both public areas and beach clubs offering lounges, food, and drinks by the water. (Side Note: think synonymously: As "the most interesting man in the world" is to Dos Equis, Marco would be the brand/face for Italy"s Peroni or Moretti!) When beaches and shopping seem to be just scratching the surface of the amazing Positano and you want more or something different... call Marco Predieri. He was a wonderful, knowledgable tour guide! He knows the Amalfi Coast inside and out! He speaks perfect English and he is a walking history book. He will take the time to understand your needs and help you custom plan your itinerary. We had the great surprise of engaging in a few tours he offered that were literally off the charts. We went on amazing hikes seeing ancient waterfalls thru acres of pristine lemon groves. We took a cooking class in the kitchen of a gorgeous restaurant-side by side with the master chef. We went on a private boat tour along the Amalfi Coast with detours to cave dive and eat in a hidden gem of a fishing town. My only regret was there was not enough time to see and do all the wonderful tours he recommended. Marco makes you feel like a friend who has come to visit Italy for the first time and he wants to show you what you may not otherwise get to see. We felt like we were being escorted thru the town with an old friend who introduced us to his home and friends. The experience was a dream come true!

Originally we had looked into public transport from Naples to…read moreAmalfi, but we wanted to include a stop at Pompeii and didn't want to deal with the various transportation options as well as our luggage so opted for the private transport. Rainbow Limos was highly recommended by a friend and prices seemed quite comparable to other private transport. They picked us up at the Naples train station and drove us to Positano with a stop for a prearranged private tour (that they set up) of Pompeii, then at the end of our stay picked us up at our hotel and took us to Naples airport. If you have the budget I would highly recommend the guided Pompeii tour - I think we got a lot more out of it than if we had been wandering around on our own. They were efficient in communication ahead of time, very clear on details and prices via email, on time/ahead of time for pick ups, and we felt very safe with them. They were extremely kind when our train from Rome was delayed and helped make sure our private Pompeii tour could still happen. Would absolutely use them again!
