The inside of the school was renovated pretty recently, so classrooms, common areas, gymnasiums, etc. are in great shape and have top of the line technology. It also happens to share some land with Langston Middle School which is convenient for the county. The teachers and staff are wonderful. I've had a chance to work with them frequently through my volunteer role with the Relay For Life of Reston. A really unique thing about this school is that they have a huge JROTC program. It allows for the students to get involved with activities outside of the classroom, get mentored, learn leadership/organization skills, become more motivated and have more discipline, and really prepare them for the real world/college. I can't talk highly enough about the JROTC program and the influence it has in these kids lives, especially when they may not be receiving a lot of support at home. I have gotten to know Sargaent Handy and Major Schuler over the years; they are such wonderful role models and I'm so grateful for their service. Many many many moons later, I had a friend who enrolled her kid in a private religious school and ended up moving him to public school a year later for the exact same reason I stated. The one thing that was awesome / appalling about St. Tim's was their utter disrespect for healthy school lunches in the 90's. the school called cps because my 14 year old was watching her siblings while i went to work…read moreliterally across the street. the school social worker showed up to my front door saying she heard my daughter was the babysitter and she didnt want me to get in trouble yet made the call to cps herself the very next day with allegations of neglect!!! who does that????? I should add cps did nothing because its completely normal, legal, and not neglectful for a teenager to watch her siblings!!! they also instead of contacting me with any concerns called my daughters father and told him i cut her hair because i was having a hard time caring for it (should be my choice). my childrens father is an abusive man that was NOT involved in my childrens lives by HIS CHOICE!!! Also he broke my collar bone and put three staples in my head resulting in a traumatic brain injury and seizures i suffered with for about 2 years. if they had concerns they shouldve contacted the correct parent and expressed their concerns!!!!!!!!!!!! they think they were helping but maybe should ask the right questions to the right people before making matters potentially worse by contacting authorities and the ABUSIVE ABSENT parent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
