I have no doubt that my child is ready for college based on their experience at Burke. It's a warm and welcoming community with academic rigor, but kids are not as stressed out as some other schools. Kids are taught to be independent thinkers and to self advocate. It's an urban school so wonderful opportunities to explore the city. Sports facilities are lacking, but an easy compromise to make for the location. Sports teams are no cut which means kids can play sports every season if they choose.

Doesn't have as much problem with beads piled up (like Wash Lee) or holes in the field (RFK aux field). Ample parking, trash cans...no bathrooms though from what I could find.

You aren't allowed to float by and you are getting the tools needed to thrive beyond college. Critical thinking and reasoning were skills imparted to you. Athletics could have been stronger, but it's picking up a lot of steam. It helps that the CEO of Under Armour, Kevin Plank, is a SJC alum. This school will continue to grow and will undoubtedly be an elite institution for years to come.

However to my surprise, when checking Spot Hero I discovered there is a shopping area very close to the auditorium with multiple garages. We were able to make a parking reservation for five dollars, but as it turned out you can park on the street after 6:30 p.m. and we were lucky enough to get a spot right in front of the building. The auditorium is large and the seats are comfortable and spaced well. There is plenty of leg room, which is always a plus since my husband is tall. The rest rooms are conveniently located just down the hall from the auditorium. My minor complaints may be that because it was a dance recital, and the performers needed the whole stage, there were some distractions. A curtain at the back of the stage was held together with a large clothes pin-type thing. Also there was a visible door. The acoustics are good, so much so that the music was painfully loud. That was more likely the fault of the stage crew and not the venue itself.

Other main courses that were available were a whole fried fish, crab cakes and shrimp. With each main course you get 2 sides (macaroni, french fries, corn bread, green beans). I went for the macaroni and green beans and YUM. You also get a cute little juice box with it, so hey, why not. Everything I had was damn good, it felt like I was back in Michigan.. almost. One thing that really put St. Augustine's Fish Fry over the top though, was that THEY TAKE CREDIT CARDS. It is so rare for a church to do something like this for a cheap meal, but I was stoked. Eastern High School is a beautiful building on Capitol Hill East just a few blocks from the Stadium-Armory Metro Station. Behind its historic building is a football field that is open to the public to work out in when school is not in session. During the summer, I wake up at 6AM and watch the sun rise over the football field as I do my work out on the perfectly even grass and run a few laps around the track. I've seen others walk the bleachers for a good exercise.
