Very much a 2017 (or 2015? whenever they did this thing) renovated type look inside-- clean lines, big windows, funky plastic furniture in exciting shapes and colors. (Sidenote: UofC seems really invested in buying interesting new chairs. No building remodel is complete without some sexy yellow chairs. Or maybe a building remodel is just sexy new chairs but the new chairs are so effective with their sexiness that no one even complains about where did all of our cash go?) Large co-working space (or, let's just call it what it is, big room with desks) with plenty of rolling white boards and power outlets and exposed brick. Also a Greenline coffee shop inside. Only problem with this place is that the working area gets no sunlight. So it's like being in a cozy woodbrick pizza oven. If that's your studying/getting shit done aesthetic, all power to ya. Personally I like a little sunlight so I can be reminded of what I'm missing out on outside of my computer screen. Free membership for UofC students.

I was surprised with a Valentine's Day Couples Cooking Class at Kendall from my boyfriend. It was…read moreone of the coolest experiences we've enjoyed together! Before you start cooking 3 Chefs explain and demonstrate each course you're going to make. It's a lot to remember so I suggest you pay attention! There are students who walk around to help answer questions and bring you ingredients. The Chefs are also very hands on. One Chef walked me through the entire process of making the vinaigrette! While cooking, they also have a snack & beverage table set up so you won't go hungry! In fact, try not to fill up too fast! Then, there is one course to be eaten at your cooking station, which were the scallops! Here is what we cooked: 1st Course: Beet Salad w/ Oranges & Pistachio Encrusted Baked Goat Cheese Croutons - the croutons came out phenomenal but we forgot to add our vinaigrette! Lol! Whoops! We accidentally left it on the counter! 2nd Course: Scallops in a Butter Blood Orange Sauce topped w/ Caviar- my absolute favorite thing we made! The sauce was so good w/ the perfectly cooked scallops! 3rd Course: 3 Large Flank Steaks w/ Cauliflower Purée- the marinade for the steaks was amazing! Steaks came out nice and juicy! The Cauliflower was cooked in milk then purée by the students. 4th Course: Raspberry Truffles! This was the most comical portion of the evening bc/ we accidentally let the chocolate sit for a little while. When I went to ball the chocolate over the raspberries, the chocolate instantly melted in my hands. A student quickly came over to help but we had a laughing attack bc we were trying to salvage what we could! Quickly, we dipped the truffles into coco powder & put them back in the fridge! It was such a blast pretending to be Gordon Ramsay and Zumbo! It really felt like we were on a cooking show! We were so into it, that out of 28 ppl we were 1st to finish! I wish they would record it & send you home with a dvd! Lol After, Couples enjoy their meals at candle lit banquet style tables lined w/ white table cloth next to an open bar. (This is not the same location as Kendal's main restaurant.) You bring your salad with you and the rest of the courses are served by the students! A lot of thought went into making this night possible & a lot of the ingredients come already prepared! In just under 3hrs you cook & dine! So romantic! So much fun! Delicious food! The perfect date night! I would do it all over again in a heart beat! Thank you, My Love for such a wonderful evening!

Man, I do not cook…read more But, for a night at Kendall College (Spice Up Your Life Cooking program)...I felt for a slice of time, that I might be able to get into it. That feeling has passed, but I still had a really nice time. Ok? Ok. I learned how to "assemble" several items: *Sparking sangria. I'll definitely make this at some point again because it contains alcohol and thus I am not going against my DNA that requires I do not create edible dishes. Ever. Choppy some fruit, throw in some brandy, red wine, Grand Marnier and pour over ice and sprite. Not bad! I'm drunk now, so let's cook.... *Ciabatta Pear Pizza with honey thyme pesto. A winner, most definitely. I could probably make this happen at one point in the future without anyone being harmed or maimed. Those were the standouts. The rest of the dishes (mushroom tartlettes, seafood ceviche, chorizo quesadillas) were all OK, but nothing out of this world. Read: I won't even try to make those. The good parts of this program/classes: the instructors were very fun, and cordial...not like Hell's Kitchen at all. They made it a really fun "Girls Night Out" cooking class. There was also PLENTY of sangria to go around, and other wines to have additionally. For a hot second I actually worried on the way over that I not only had to cook...but had to be sober and cook! Whew. They prep everything for you, so you basically just have to assemble and put in appropriate heating vessel. Even then they have a million students buzzing around checking things, so its basically fool-proof. Except the food processor, I managed to break that. Though, after watching it turn tomatillos into wonderful salsa in mere seconds, I can see why all these chicks want to get married and get a Kitchenaid. Although you know, you can have one and not get married, for the record. A success...and a very fun GNO. Great staff, well organized, private parking and great food. We left stuffed and sauced!

This was the first time that we went to the Chicago Center for Arts and Technology (CHICAT) to…read moreattend their opening reception of the exhibition "Where Our Voices Unite." This was not just an art exhibition; it was a wonderful celebration of AANHPI Heritage Month! The exhibition was professionally and tightly curated by Yidi Wang in their "Gallery 1701" that's on the second floor of CHICAT.  It was nicely lit with lots of natural light.  There was artwork with many different media. It was a beautiful space and show!  I also appreciated their mission!  The "Where Our Voices Unite" show runs from May 21st  to June 8th, 2026. All the staff including the curator Yidi Wang were very welcoming.  It was a nice surprise that we were served a delicious buffet with abundance of Asian dishes and fruits!  I have been to many art openings, but have never seen so much food in any of them before.  Wine and beverages were also served.  There were many large nicely table-clothed tables that we could seat ourselves.  It was literally a celebrative gathering for the AANHPI Heritage Month! It was nice that the 11th Ward Alderwoman Nicole Lee was a special guest and made a short speech.  The Executive Director Tina and two other directors also made a brief speech. CHICAT is a non-profit that is "building a community where creativity fuels enterprise", and is worth our support.

She's a college senior and was one of the youngest artists. It was a lovely event where their board was introduced, there was a nice welcome, a soul food buffet and drinks and the opportunity to walk through the gallery and meet the artists. Not only does he do the training but he (and Julie) goes the extra mile by helping each and every student get a job in the medical field after they graduate. One caveat here, there is no such thing as a guaranteed job! Nobody can offer you that. So the graduate MUST be flexible in regards to where they're going to work, which might mean traveling to a location that is out of the way or working inconvenient hours in order to be flexible. But once you get that experience you'll have a much better chance of getting a better position in the future. John is a man of many talents, he recruits, trains and places students in a field where there is currently a limited shortage. Both him and Julie are approachable and open to helping anybody who has a serious commitment for entering the medical field. So if you're currently unemployed seeking a fulfilling position in the medical field go see John and Julie Ocansey at AIPS, you'll be glad you did!

This college is located in a convenient location close to transportation, downtown Chicago and…read moreChinatown. On campus, there are plenty of trees and greenery. Some of the buildings are modern with great architecture. My favorite is the Kaplan building. As soon as you walk in, there is a robot near the front desk. In Kaplan, I feel like I'm in a college geared for the 21st century and beyond. This is STEM based campus for people with majors such as physics, mechanical engineering, computer science, chemical engineering, bioinformatics etc. Because of its great architectural design, films and movies have been filmed here. The popular show Empire has used the college for filming. The food in the Commons cafeteria is delicious, especially the stir fried rice. It had just the right amount of teriyaki sauce and veggies. The server prepares the fried rice, with vegetables, rice and chicken in front of the customers. The line for the stir fried rice was the longest line. The chocolate chip boondies were superb. I went over my calorie limit today!

From my experience, it feels like Black students are not given the same opportunities or consideration when it comes to certain positions on campus. It has been extremely discouraging, especially when students are trying to work to support themselves while attending school. On top of that, many things on campus are unnecessarily overpriced. Students are already paying high tuition, yet basic things can feel excessively expensive. I hope the school takes these concerns seriously.
