At 70 years old, I could still run a 40 yard dash in 6.2 seconds and finish a 5K in less than 20 minutes. But, after a few weeks in February of 2021, I was barely able to get out of bed. My legs were so swollen I couldn't pull on a pair of jeans! My calves were "tomato red" and burned as did my feet. When I got the bloodwork done and finally saw Dr. Chia, the first thing he said was, "Did you grow up in North Torrance?" I was stunned.... "Were you ever near the waters of Alondra Park?" I told him I'd spent hundreds of hours playing in the run-off channel at the end of Wilkie Street every summer. Now, He was stunned! "You were in that water?!" I told him how my dad had put us boys in his rowboat and took us to Bixby Slough (now, Harbor Regional Park). Dr. Chia explained that my capillaries and nerve tissues were being destroyed by the viruses I'd collected from the "highly polluted water of the North Torrance aquifer"! Now, 4 years later, I am unsteady, but I can stand. I cannot run normally, but I can jog. I'm back at the gym, and I thank God for providing Dr. Chia when I was losing hope. BTW, as an educator with 36 years experience evaluating the learning profiles of over 2,000 students, I can tell you that Dr. John Chia displays many attributes of those diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. So, for those who noticed that Dr. Chia rarely made eye-contact and seemed to lack empathy, I totally agree, having experienced the same thing. This doesn't diminish the brilliance of this gem. Rather, he shines brighter because doesn't care if you like him. His focus is on caring for you. ~ Rick D'Amico

She has taken, and continues to take terrific care of me That said, within this page, I came upon a woman who had some less than positive things (a couple of years ago) to say about Adriana at the front desk. I've been interacting with Adriana for a good portion of those 22 years, and contrary to what this other woman had to say, I've always found Adriana to be one of the kindest and most compassionate staffmembers in a medical office that I have ever come across. Whenever I need to see the doctor, I always look forward to seeing Adriana as part of the visit. I don't know what this other woman's experience was, but she certainly was not describing the Adriana that I have come to know.

Thirteen years ago I developed a number of symptoms after clearing a difficult respiratory…read moreinfection. These symptoms initially started as inflammatory/reactive arthritis of the hips, buttocks and thighs. But additional symptoms surfaced over 18 months to include fatigue, pre-fainting , pleurisy, illness, neurological problems and fainting. I worked with a number of Specialist who ruled out possible causes. Eventually Dr. Franco of the Arthritis Center of Riverside diagnosed Mycoplasma pneumoniae. I was successfully treated with long term and maintenance doses of antibiotics. The treatment was successful for 5 symptom free years. I developed a reinfection 5 years later but Dr. Franco was only partially able to reduce the symptoms which led me to seeking treatment from an Infectious Disease Specialist. I have had two visits with Dr. Milefchik. One visit in 2023 and March of 2026. In 2023 I provided my case study to Dr. Milefchik for review. I received a call from his staff advising he wanted to see me with an appointment set up 4 months later. During my visit Dr. Milefchik entered the room, stated he has seen some of Dr. Franco's patients in the past commenting they were a "little crazy". In the 15 minute visit he interpreted the Mycoplasma test results as inconclusive and a number of theories were presented including if I ever had an exposure to Covid (the case at that time was 10 years old and I never had Covid). As I addressed these theories one by one he finally stated he needed to follow the hippocratic oath of "do no harm" and provided no treatment. In my opinion Dr. Milefchik was uninformed about Mycoplasma. After a 16 month failed attempt to get a group of Specialist from UCLA to work together as a team to protect my overall health and treatment for Mycoplasma I needed to start from scratch to build a team of Specialists outside the UCLA network. In this process a Primary Specialist provided me a referral to Dr. Milefchik. In the three years since I had seen Dr. Milefchik additional facts were documented which strengthened my case. Upon my visit March of 2026 he initially stated he knew little about Mycoplasma. As I tried to discuss the facts of my case his interpretation made no sense to me. It is well documented that Mycoplasma IGG test results can indicate a past infection or active infection and the patients symptoms need to be considered. I ran the test over a 20 month period showing elevated IGG correlating to my flare up of symptoms of this disease. Yet Dr. Milefchik stated there was a number of reasons why my body would cause elevated Mycoplasma IGG, without giving me a specific example. He stated antibiotics can act as anti-inflammatory yet he failed to mention it can also act both as anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. And past testing revealed my inflammatory markers were low. Dr. Milefchik stated research 20 years ago on Mycoplasma did not result in identifying root cause of a number of symptoms thought to be caused by Mycoplasma. But when I informed him the CDC now recognizes a number of chronic symptoms linked to Mycoplasma he dismissed their findings. We never even discussed symptoms I have been suffering from. It became clear to me he has not educated himself on the latest Mycoplasma research and the seriousness of this disease. At the end of our visit he commentated a number of people have to live with pain for un-diagnosed illnesses and he didn't think I would get any Infectious Disease Specialist to support my case. My response was if these symptoms were intermittent I may be able to live with them. But the symptoms are chronic causing suffering and I would continue to seek support for my case. I decided to present my case to Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Labalo, who works in the same office. I received a call from his staff stating per policy Dr. Labalo can't see me as a patient because I was under the care of Dr. Milefchik. I pointed out Dr. Milefchik was ignorant of my case and was not providing any treatment. I was told their policy stands and a referral was given to me for Dr. Eric Daar. I reviewed Dr. Daar's qualifications. Per harborid.org "His research focuses on pathogenesis and treatment of acute and chronic HIV infection, management of complications of HIV infection, novel strategies for addressing engagement in HIV care, and developing strategies for prevention and treatment of COVID-19". I have neither HIV nor ever had Covid-19.

Furthermore, I'm a hard stick. A REALLY hard stick. Two days into my first week of infusions, the hospital recommended a midline which ended up failing due to dvt, and I ended up having to get a PICC line put in just to be able to administer my antibiotics. No other doctors could figure this out and it perpetuated for almost six weeks.....and Dr. Rand and his elegant medicine cured me in 3 days. Then, when I ended up leaving the hospital AMA (due to a bad nursing interaction) i couldn't get my own primary care physician to remove the line, or even call me back for two weeks. If I hadn't known all the risks and care for that particular kind of line, I easily could have gotten EXTREMELY ill or even died. My insurance finally approved me to go to Dr. Rand for follow up care, and the office staff called me back to confirm my info and make an appointment for the next available day.....they did bloodwork, and painlessly pulled the line the same day. I am extremely impressed with him AND the office staff. I wish I could make him my primary care doctor! Thanks for everything.

Dr. Milefchick saved my life…read more I had two near fatal deaths in the hospital from different forms of lupus flares, sepsis from the centralized catheter that was removed on my birthday. My lungs had collapsed and a code blue was called on me. The technicians and nurses were frantically running around me and told me I went unconscious. This was the beginning of my second Lupus-Induced hospitalization. While I found out later how other doctors told their nurses how I 'was a goner", Milefchick stayed the course despite me being in the ICU (intensive care unit). Dr. Milefchick is one of the very rare doctors that understand my lupus, and me. He is truly kind, authentic and empathetic. This doctor LISTENS very WELL, does not minimize my situation and circumstance in any way and does not cut you off mid-sentence. The reason I say this because several doctors constantly minimize your lupus symptoms and many think it's 'all in your head" and tell you some version to "think more positively" (if people got lupus from not "thinking positively" all the time, trust me, EVERYONE in this world would have lupus). Additionally, many doctors contain a vast amount of knowledge in their minds, but lack the Wisdom of applying their knowledge accordingly to different situations. Thankfully, Milefchick has WISDOM too. Milefchick in another way of saying, acknowledges the TRUTH of the severity of my condition and never cajoles me to 'reconsidering' the truth of it. He also acknowledges in both verbal and non-verbal communication that I am indeed a fighter, which is not as common as one would think while being up against the degree I've had to suffer from lupus. While the average doctor cares not, Dr. Milefchick exceeds all expectations in his words and actions, and it shows. I know this doctor's schedule fills up a great deal but give this person a chance. In this case, it is worth the wait. He will spend the quality time with you which you deserve. At the very least, this man won't rush you out the door and finish your sentences for you.
