I never expected that you, Lynne would have our tax filing done by the seemingly quick and arbitrary date when we happened to have our investment appointment with James. And to top it off, we were able to discuss the conclusion for our tax process after our investment appointment with James. While one could hope for such amazing efficiency and convenience, I never ever expected that under these circumstances. And to make it even more remarkable, just days before the taxes were done I sent in a last minute change. We had gotten a tax form that was mailed to us very late, so I sent it to Lynne the same day and that late change was incorporated into our completed filing. While were open-minded about our appointment with James, I did not expect we would be needing to move any money or make any new investments. And here too our James also greatly exceeded our expectations. We had this massive Trust document about which we had the vaguest of understandings. While James appropriately explained he does not give legal advice, he was able to explain in plain language, the purpose and uses of a Trust in a way we understood it like never before. This truly was full customer service without earning any money from us from new investments. For both Lynne and James, we had such comfortable, friendly discussions it was extremely easy to feel at home and trust their advice. Friendly service and a personal touch seems so obvious that everyone should use them, but they are rare, especially to the degree that we experienced with Lynne and James. Reflecting on this, another key word comes to mind, authenticity.

(dropped off info in February) They say it's standard practice to just leave "drop off clients" sitting until the staffer gets to it. A drop off client is someone who puts all of their information into the provided envelope and takes it to their office. The delay in finding out how much we owed caused us significant financial harm. When we brought this to the attention of a manager he said it was a "coaching opportunity" for the employee. That is completely meaningless to someone who was just screwed over by your company. Terrible service.

So last year I went in search of a local tax preparer, preferably a financial professional with reasonable rates, and preferably not a franchise operation like H&R or a larger accounting firm that would charge a much higher rate. I found Muller Financial Services, made an appointment, and had my taxes done in under an hour for almost half of what I was paying to bang my head against the computer trying to do them myself. Not only that, but James also showed me I had been doing my taxes totally wrong and saved me money on my return. I used him again this year and spent a grand total of one hour having to deal with taxes. Now I'm done and filed and I'll probably have my refund in hand by March. It's not worth trying to be your own tax expert, so long as you can find a competent, affordable tax preparer who will probably earn their fee by finding you more savings. This is the guy you're looking for.

Hopefully, he answers the 2nd time as I would need to call again. If you have questions or comments, you would have to call again.... I've asked for an email address and why he doesn't have voice mail. He said something like he wasn't good with technology.
