At first our oldest hated the idea, but they have all the digital add-ons to make it interesting - not as interesting as Halo, but enough to make them want to practice. Which, surprisingly enough they did without prompt. Our biggest hassle was scheduling guitar times and days, but we were also juggling a few other calendar events that had priority. However, we are more 30 for 30 than Glee, so music didn't make the top 5 for our boys. But the basic appreciation was worth the time. The prices were on the extreme side, so we would have found private teachers on our own schedule had we continued. But if you want the whole package - great teachers, fun & safe environment, quick walk to groceries, summer musicals, etc - this is the place.

My daughter started in piano, but then switched to voice after a few years. And then my son (who reluctantly studied piano), was super excited about finally taking some drum lessons! I also really like that they balance this "academic" side of things, but make it really fun for the kids as well. Definitely recommend this place, if you have kids interested in music lessons.

Don't trust this man. He said he went to Caltech and MIT and taught, as a professor, at CalTech…read more There is no record of him online of doing any of those things. I should've known when he said "I'm super cool, I'm super chill, I'm super cool, super laid back". Anyone who says that... isn't. He was manic and un-showered and smelled and was absolutely insane. It doesn't seem that hard to wash your hands before you go and teach someone. His hair looked like he dipped his head in oil and his hands had never been washed in his life. He told me to google something at one point and took my phone from me, within 2 mins of meeting him. He had to take a smoke break during our *2 hour, $165 session*. He does seem to understand math, I'll give him that, but he is not a good teacher. He did the work for me when I explicitly stated I want to do it and just have him help me when I need it. I wanted a challenge. He taught me nothing. I tried to learn. I thought I was just being a bad student at first and was judging too hard. No, he's just not legit. He went off and talked about other subjects of math that I'm NOT EVEN IN. Of course, he was reading a calculus book too. Completely cliché. He talked nonstop about his 22 year old student Izzy and how he was texting her. I'm not sure why he had to mention her so many times or her age. Who knows if she's even real. I had to redirect his attention so many times, he constantly cut me off when I'd ask if we could start on my homework... instead would talk about his lawyer friends in LA. So weird. His reviews are not real, by the way. Go on google. All 207+ 5 star reviews are made from fake accounts, with names like "Becky White" and "Robert smith" with a stock photo image, and the only review they've ever left is for this "tutor". Not a coincidence. Same with his Facebook reviews. Don't let him scam you. I was cheated out of $165 by a con artist.

We began the summer with an overqualified in-home Tutor. And before long our daughter had our tutor's personality figured out and then it became a game of procrastination ;) From day one our daughter couldn't wait to go back to Sylvan. She looks forward to it. Her attitude towards learning is already changing and she is being affected by other ancillary benefits of the Sylvan experience such is patience, manners and respecting quiet spaces. Sylvan clearly sets a high standard for their educator's approach to children. Each instructor has been polite, patient and consistent with our daughter. And the effect has been wonderful so far. Full disclosure: I might be a little biased because I attended Sylvan for a few years in the mid '80s 1st-3rd grade. But it helped me and it appears they've only improved their approach.

So keep in mind most of the reviews you will read i've been heavily influenced with free tutoring in exchange for positive reviews. My experience with the school was unimpressive. From the very beginning all they wanted to talk about was the payments and how much it was going to cost they didn't seem concerned with offering up any information about how the school runs. It felt like an extremely rushed process Focus was always around money. The intake person that we dealt with did not seem like she was that interested. Acted bothered by my questions almost. While we were in there the place seemed very disorganized. They claim to have a maximum of three students per teacher but they're all lumped into one noisy room. One of the main reasons I chose this place was because of its overwhelming reviews but now that I know that those reviews are bought and paid for and after my initial experience we chose to go a different route.
