The store also has a cafe, accessible access, toilets and a cash point (ATM). The other side of the large but busy car-park is a petrol station, open 06.30-23h week-days, 06.30-22h Saturdays and 8-18h on Sundays.

Marks and Sparks isn't a cheap option, and doesn't really pretend to be. From ready-prepared meals, chilled foods and frozen foods to store-cupboard items, candies, biscuits and luxury foodstuffs, there is a mouth-watering selection. There is a small bakery section for freshly-baked pastries and tartlets, along with speciality breads and rolls. Towards the back of the store there is a compact but useful clothing section, mainly lingerie and basic key separates and frocks for ladies with some basics mens clothing too. This sits next to a small giftware and toiletries area. A store to visit when you can afford to pamper yourself. Only a short walk off the main market place, and situated right next to a car park, so convenient for all shoppers.

As anyone who has shopped at a Lidl knows, many of the brand names are German or European, but don't let the low prices fool you These are quality foodstuffs, and total value for money. You can stock up on everything you need by way of store-cupboard basics and kitchen basics, for sometimes nearly half the price that you'd pay in the more up-market stores. The chocolate and candy section is pure temptation. Boxes of Belgian pralines and bars of dark bitter chocolate.. Mmmmmmmm There is a small fresh produce selection as well, again very inexpensive, and I find they tend to stay fresh a whole lot longer than other supermarket fruit and veg. Their alcohol section is small but again the prices are highly competitive and there are real bargains to be had, with decent, drinkable wines. Note that there is no tobacco section so you can't pick up a packet of ciggies there! It's well worth a visit, even if you aren't in need of a bargain trolley dash! So many of the items have become family favourites now, it's definately one of my must-visit shops for larger bulk buys. In fact, the only reason it doesn't get five stars is that there are never very many staff around, and although you might get lucky and breeze through a checkout quickly, it's just as likely you'll be stuck behind a long queue. People do tend to do full-trolley shops, and really it needs more than just two checkouts open in busy times like this. The staff themselves have always been friendly and helpful, and it's not their fault that they're understaffed. Plus the checkout desks themselves are small and you have to scrabble to put your shopping away whlst it piles up and balances precariously on the thin ledge. There are never any 'packers' as with some of the larger stores. But these are just minor grumbles weighed against the fantastic savings and excellent quality and surprising variety of items to be had.

I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who stopped to offer help, in the end a lovely young man from Latvia came and helped me. He pulled out this huge screw/ bolt from the tyre then repaired it with something magic that looked like a rubber plug. I don't know his name, he said he lived in new Milton and he had a blue car. He really was a saviour to me. I was so amazed that so many kind people came to my aid and offered help. with all the bad things happening in this world today, all the people who stopped were just kind and wonderfu, I'm glad I live in this great country.

For such a small store, it actually has a surprisingly wide range of stock - I was able to buy everything I needed to make a whole week-end's worth of vegetarian meals, including a nice cheese-board, and the wine selection is not half bad either. Staff are reasonably efficient and very friendly (chatty in a West Country sort of way, hence being a little slower than elsewhere - but that's what you come to Somerset for, isn't it?) The store has disabled access and a cash-point, as well as a small car-park (currently being enlarged). The generous opening hours are really useful in a small town where most other shops close at five-thirty.

Shuffling around the aisles, it's not hard to see why. The place is very well-stocked with more than you'd expect to find here. Clothes? Sure - why not. An electronics section? Totes. DVDs and game? You bet your bottom dollar. DIY? Surely not - but yes. Camping equipment? It cannot be, but it is. Household utensils? What kind of place am I even in any more? ASDA Frome has a bit of everything and lots of what you'd expect. A fresh fish counter, a delicatessen, even a pizza-making section where you can custom-pick your design (and they're good pizzas, too!). Backing all this up are friendly, helpful staff and great prices. Loads of free on-site parking and open until 11pm every weekday. What a winner.

Large car-park so seldom any queuing even on the busiest of days, and cashpoints for the terminally broke! The store iteslef covers clothes for women, men, and younger kids (not for teenage boys though, please note). The bakery turns out wonderful loaves, the wine section is extensive, and the rest is perfect for an all-in weekly shop. The aisles are wide and so you don't get trolley snarl-ups (often!). The staff are unfailingly helpful, although it's sometimes hard to catch one standing still long enough to ask a question of! But they will always go the extra mile to check if there is extra stock out back, so you feel valued. Prices are good all across the board, and their Own Brand and Value items make for good savings. The only (small) criticism is the location, or rather to lack of public transport to get to it. Right out on the edge of town is fine for driving but if you don't have your own transport then it can be expensive to get a cab there and back (which you will certainly need for a weekly shop). Although there is a bus service that runs to and from the store from the market place it's not regular enough to be really convenient (or memorable - and nobody wants to sit around the town centre for up to an hour waiting for a bus). But all that aside, it's a great store for getting everything under one roof if you need items of kids clothing and shoes as well as gifts and/or electrical and household goods when you do a big weekly foodshop. Note that there is a self-service petrol station next to the supermarket so you can even fill up your tank for a competitive amount as well.

But what should the less wealthy of us need a supermarket which isn't as elusive as Marks and Spencer and not as pricey as Waitrose? Sainsbury's local on Marmouth Street is a tiny supermarket which is an ideal one-stop shop for your basic essentials. The range of items on sale here is pretty limited, but when you're looking for reasonably priced goods like tea, coffee, bread and milk - this is the first place I head. And, because it's a Sainsbury's LOCAL the service is quick so there's no frustrating queues in sight.
