'Venue Cymru' has been the cause of some debate in the local area. If someone mentioned the name…read more'Venue Cymru' to you would you know what it was? Even if you know that Cymru is Welsh for Wales (and I'm sure you do) chances are you still wouldn't guess what Venue Cymru is. It is in fact a recently expanded conference centre which incorporates the former North Wales Theatre (now offically also known as Venue Cymru). The theatre is a modern and well equipped theatre which was purpose built to be the North Wales home for the Welsh National Opera. It has an ugly boxlike structure built on top of it (again the cause of much debate) which was necessary to hold the scenery and props required for WNO performances. There are comfortable seats, good views and a number of cafes and bars for interval refreshment. They do attract some big names and shows and the panto's are always a big draw in December. This years will star John Challis aka Boycie from Only Fools and Horses. The venue also includes a large hall which is used for large meetings, trade shows and is beginning to build a reputation as a concert venue with the likes of The Kooks, The Feeling, Enter Shikari and Pendulum all booked to appear soon. The rest of the building is made up of smaller meeting rooms with a number of bars and cafes dotted around. There is a particularly nice restaurant at the front which overlooks the bay. There is a reasonable sized pay and display car park at the back which is shared with the swimming pool next door but across the road is the Mostyn Champneys Retail Park which has a large, free carpark. This is now a very well appointed conference centre. Unfortunately despite having in excess of 250 hotels there is a feeling that there aren't enough of sufficient 'quality' to attract the big players but this is none the less a great asset to the town.
An eerily empty and soulless, if efficient place to see the stars of stage and screen in Llandudno…read more The place works, but despite the posh Starbucks coffee in offer, something about the place is lacking that spark of art. Plus it's on the shoreline, so you'd think that'd help.

The framing is exceptional quality and have a huge range of frames to choose from, the timescale is very good too. I've always found them very helpful and are able to advise expertly about their products. They will frame anything for you, including football shirts or baby stuff and make such a wonderful job of it. They can also restore artwork onsite, have a Welsh Gallery section and will put a digital photo onto a canvas which looks truly amazing.
This cinema is large and has several screens, showing the latest new releases. It's the nearest…read morecinema to Caernarfon, which is about 30 miles away, so it's a rare treat to visit. The cinema itself is very modern, with 8 screens using the latest film technology, and the seats are comfortable and spacious. There is wheelchair access and seats in the front row that are suitable for the disabled. Inside the cinema there's an ice-cream stall, a popcorn counter in the middle of the foyer, a hot dog counter and a Pick 'n' Mix style sweet shop. Of course, these prices are all extortionate and whilst it costs £6.60 for an adult ticket to see the film, it costs almost as much for a tub of popcorn. Outside the cinema, which is located in a leisure park on the outskirts of Llandudno Junction, there's a McDonalds, a KFC, a Pizza Hut, a Frankie & Benny's and several other eateries. The price to see the film is actually quite reasonable, I believe, but the extras let the whole experience down.
Just another Cineworld, just another chain cinema. Nothing bad, nothing great. It is what it is…read more It's the Wetherspoons of movie emporiums. The popcorn is expensive, the fizzy water that tastes vaguely of cola or orange is even worse, the hot dogs are luke warm and the nachos are doritos with a lumpy, solid, unlovable cheese sauce. But the place shows movies, and movies are good. Facilities were clean, the pool table worked (I won both games I played) and I can't say anything bad!

Unlike the other amusement arcades in town (the ones on dry land) there's no 'Jackpot' area where you can win £500 as long as you're prepared to feed pound coins into the machines. There are plenty of gaming machines but the last time I was there none of them cost more than 10p a spin. There are also video games and crane grab machines and I'm sure they've still got a pinball machine. Not really a place I'd recommend to anyone but if you have to visit an arcade your money will last much longer in this one.

You can enjoy a panoramic view in both directions, before descending into the oldest part of Llandudno, built before the Victorian tourism boom. Many plants and flowers are cultivated in terraces along the path, which are set against the rocky grasslands of the Great Orme. Alternatively, for those with more energy, a new path has been opened which veers off the traditional walk, taking you up and over the Great Orme to its summit. Whilst walking this path visit the delightful tearooms too (see seperate review).

Unfortunately this place is purely aimed at taking your hard earned pennies - there is no longer any pretence of trying to amuse. Unlike in the old days there are no longer any video games, it's purely gambling. There's very little but slot machines, with a bingo game, Deal or No Deal (not sure how it works - never tried it), and some crane grab machines. Unless you've got (a lot of) money to spare DO NOT set foot in here. If you've got the time try the arcade at the end of the pier which still has some video games and the slot machines are all still 10p a go rather than £1.

Back in those days it was called the Prince of Wales but other than that not much has changed. It's a nice if slightly small place. It seems to have suffered in recent years following the opening of the North Wales Theatre five miles down the coast in Llandudno but still attracts the odd name or half decent play. It also now doubles as a cinema to keep the money coming in. Hopefully Theatr Colwyn will be around for years to come.
