It it reasonably priced with a very friendly staff. When you enter this hotel it feels like you are entering a high end club lounge (club music is always playing). It has a very laid back cool young energy vibe......although during the week they are bus loads of retirees visiting for a couple days. Their food is just as good as going to a restaurant downtown (well actually the steak and breakfast buffet was). It is a hip downtown spot so you will see people enjoying the lounge atmosphere but are probably not staying at the hotel. It sort of reminds me of a more reasonable version of the W. Then they charged me a no show fee cause I checked in late. Uhh, wow. The Internet was down again during my first night. I couldn't get my room cool enough at night and had to open my window. It was trade-off of sleeping in a cool room, but also smelling the occasional cigarette and hearing pedestrians. An employee let himself into my room one evening. He just swiped his badge, opened the door and started waking in. I told him to get the F out. " Oh I'm sorry, my mistake" Wow again. Why the heck was he entering if he wasn't sure if the room was occupied?! Knock, moron. He offered me a complimentary drink for the inconvenience of him walking in on me. No thanks. I'd simply rather have privacy. I'll never stay here again.

Nice, clean rooms, staff was polite and professional. You get a nice view of the Stella brewery right across the street. Also located very near AB-InBev headquarters. Tiny but unique hotel with both modern and historic touches. The hotel was converted from an old…read moremonetary and it kept some of the same building structure such as the bricks, the cathedral architecture elements and the courtyard style. The room is compact but clean, comfortable and well maintained. The hotel doesn't have a real restaurant but the breakfast buffet is amazing with superb quality pastries, fresh veggies, cheese, yogurt, cereal and eggs. Coffee is phenomenal as anywhere else in Europe. I've always had great experience staying here every time I visit Belgium. I happened to be here during the Brussels terrorists bombing this week (March 2016). My flight was cancelled and it was tough getting out as you can imagined. During the whole process, the staff here was very helpful and accommodating while I had to keep adjusting my stays, and needing help for advise on alternative transportations to leave Belgium. I'm very grateful and will not hesitate to stay here again.

The La Royale is strategically located right across the street from the main train station, which makes day trips around the country very convenient. It's also a nice 15 minute walk to the historic Oude Markt which boasts a number of bars full of students either done with studies or done trying. Stella Artois owns the town, so make sure you have a few. My favorite place for a cheap cold one is at Den Ouden Tijd, right across the street from the hotel. Enjoy the town, enjoy the hotel, enjoy the food and beer.
