Upon arrival at this hotel, we nearly missed the entrance because we thought that it was a football ground. Well, we were half right. Brentwood football ground is completely adjacent to this hotel. When we checked in, the receptionist was friendly enough, but lacked in any professionalism when dealing with the three of us. When one of my bandmates enquired as to whether he could change his room, the answer was quote: "I got nothing." After a massively long walk to the room that I had been assigned, I found my room and entered. I was actually quite surprised at the quality of the room, as I was fearing the worst. Nice cream walls and bright white ceiling with a tasteful stone coloured carpet were my greeting. A 26 inch LG TV hung on the wall was my entertainment. Of course the obligatory coffee and tea making facilities. And a miniature ironing board and iron! Next on the "to check out" list was the bathroom. This room looked like it was freshly tiled, and a nice shower had been installed. Unfortunately, even with all of the freshly fixed appliances and tiling, the cleaner had negated the tidying and cleaning duties, with numerous moth carcasses lining the floor. My bed was comfortable enough but the springs made noise every time I moved in the bed. Most disappointing of all was the lack of Gideon Bible. Apparently, his place used to be a school. I kind of like the idea of looking around this place and seeing what it used to be. I think one of the things that is most lacking here is a sense of professionalism from the staff. The vending machines really do bring down the class a further notch. So then, it is far from the best hotel I've ever stayed in, but for the money, a reasonable effort. My bandmates had plenty more complaints than I did so I guess that I was the lucky one and got a decent room!

It truly is out in the Essex countryside so there is only one road to get you there but if you do get stuck behind a Sunday driver (or 3, like we did) try to just relax and take in the gorgeous, timeless surroundings. Once we did arrive, the gravel driveway lead us passed the front of the hall to ample, free parking (which is a rare jewel in England!). We passed the hotel on the way to the main hall which looked to only have about 6 suites and I later learned these are usually booked as bridal, groom and family suites to accommodate weddings. Unfortunately this review will only involve the hall. We met our party in the lobby and were taken to the Garden Room passed the longest, most gorgeous chandelier I've ever seen. The Garden Room was absolutely beautiful as well. My favorite part about it was how the lovely floral fabric of the wall tapestries matched the fabric of the chairs which was actually brought to life in the live, deliciously smelling centerpieces, all showcased against the stark white furniture and wall accents. It was a party for the eyes and was only improved by the view of the gardens outside as well. This Sunday was a set menu but you could choose how many courses you wanted, say if you did not want an appetizer or dessert then you simply don't have to and you're not charged for that course. In our party of 6, only 2 got the pork belly starter and the rest of us simply enjoyed our drinks as they did. Yes, the menu continued like that filled with these bite-size, designer flavor explosions and the staff was very helpful answering my never ending curiosities about each dish. Definitely bring your adventurous palet so you can live large and explore. We all agreed it felt like we were at one of the posh dinner parties on Master Chef. I begged everyone in my party to order something different so we (aka I) could try them all but a few are picky eaters and most ended up ordering the token Sunday roast or the pork loin but I myself had the seared ahi over scalloped potatoes. The fish was delicious and was a perfect portion, my only gripe had to do with this very salty, VERY fishy mousse slathered all over it- I started to wipe it off after a few bites. The fish was fresh & delicious though and everyone really enjoyed their Sunday dinners... I was just loving being in such a beautiful room on a rare sunny Sunday with people I love. A friend told me people have their weddings here which is completely understandable~ I know I would! However, I can imagine it easily costing £50k if not more. The website has tons of helpful information (and swoon-worthy pictures) if you're interested in it but above all things, JUST GO! Its gorgeous, the food is so exciting and posh and the grounds, rooms & staff will make your day.

I never complain in restaurants, but when I called him on his attitude, his response was to double down, glaring at me. The manager came over an the waiter still refused to apologise. The rest of the evening had been fine, but this just spoiled everything. To make it worse, he wasn't our waitress, he just brought us the bill. Cost the woman had served us, her tip. Don't think we'll bother returning.

They struggled to find rooms either here or at another property (after the disaster of a room, I'd have rather go to another hotel). I received my key after 30 mins, only to go to the room and find it occupied.... Um, thankfully they had the safety lock on or I'd have been entering someone else's space.... Can we say UNSAFE?? Another trek downstairs to be put into another room, one that smelled like it had not seen the light of day in a very long time. It was not clean, it was just awful. As this was the "very last room " I was offered another cookie.... WTF.... I don't want a cookie, I want the room that was booked and confirmed. I advised them they could rebook me in another hotel and could drive me there and pick me up in the morning so that I could join the group that all booked together, guess I'm stuck in a musty, carpet not clean, disaster to the Hilton name room. The voice on the outside that states there is video surveillance, yep, had the pleasure of listening to that every minute... that has to go!! The bathroom was far from clean and then to top it off... NO hot water! And that could be said for the entire hotel. I thought it was just my crappy accommodations, nope, my entire party on different floors all had the same experience. Um, it's freaking cold and I just wanted a hot shower! 18£ breakfast for absolutely nothing and the coffee was just acidicly gross.... Not a fan! Please get it together Hilton, as the taste in my mouth is very sour and I have been a member for a very long time! Zero recommend!

But the reason for the low star rating is because of the bed. The bed was so hard I couldn't sleep at all. Might as well have been sleeping on the floor it is so hard. The choice of soft or firm pillows is good to have too but the bed was a massive let down. The only one of us that got any sleep in he night was our little one and she was in a travel cot. Don't think I will be staying here again soon. It's a shame because everything else is nice.

The rooms are tiny & overpriced, they don't seem to care & if you find 2 people splitting the desk & bar duties you're in luck you might get helped. Don't stay here unless you are ok with suffering & being uncomfortable etc..we couldn't check out early since it was all pre-paid (that will NEVER happen again !! ) otherwise enjoy your time in England : ) there's a lot to do & not enough time to do it !
