The whole experience was mid. For the cost, I was expecting more. We went over Christmas, so the room price was increased. Cons: The food was like a casino buffet. Beautiful presentation but lacked flavor. I was thinking in Mexico, the fruit would be amazing and even the fruit wasn't ripe. We went to their Japanese restaurant. It was a cute presentation but the food wasn't good at all. The drinks are all inclusive but are overly sweet and lacking alcohol, even when I was tipping $1 a drink or $5 a round. Most people do not tip. The rooms were outdated at least room 2328 was. Even after housekeeping came, the floor still had sand and so did the bed. The rooms are not soundproof, so bring earplugs for loud people and peacocks. The water for the shower was only hot 2 times out of the 6 nights we were there. Most of the time it was luke warm at best. The power outlet for cell phones didn't work, so we couldn't charge our devices, until we borrowed a power square adapter from a friend. Our friends also didn't have air conditioning for four nights. There is a ceramics painting by the pool. Be careful as they over charged my credit card $8.00. Before you get to the beach, there is a good chance of being cat called by people trying to sell you excursions. I'd think that since it is clearly on Iberostar's property, they'd protect their patrons. Someone came up on the beach and offered illegal substances, so again, be careful. As with any gift shop, the one on property is overpriced. If you need any type of medication, please take the 10 minute or so walk to Playa Del Carmen. Montezuma's Revenge, everyone in the group had it at one point in the trip. Not sure if it was from the food or ice on the resort. We bought 8 Imodium at the resort and spent $34.00 USD. Pros: The grounds were beautiful. They had coatis, peacocks, two giant tortoises enclosures, iguanas, koi fish, flamingos and aguotis. We bought $25 tickets per person to their Christmas show. It was a big waste of time and money. For the first 20 or so minutes it was musical chairs with members of the audience and then dancers jumping around. The over head fan went off and the humidity hit the whole group. We left before the actual show even started. If the show has a start time, please honor that. All in all, there are plenty of resorts in Playa Del Carmen that will gladly take your money. Find a better one to spend it at. read more

I stayed here for almost two weeks, so got a pretty good feel about the place. I was in building 22. My room with two queen beds was spacious and included a spacious covered deck. Unlike some of the other guests, my air conditioning unit worked. The room was a bit dated but it was comfortable and clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. I believe the restaurants requiring reservations were the Japanese and the Italian. The Smokehouse didn't require reservation. I was also told there was a minor dress code for all restaurants other than the buffets (just no swimsuits or swimsuit coverups). I found the food to be between just ok and disappointing. There were a number of unmasked people sniffling in the buffet where most of the food was uncovered and all of the serving utensils were shared. I saw one bottle of hand sanitizer at the buffet entrance. As some others commented, the drinks were definitely weak, some to the point of "I'm not even going to drink that." Once I learned about the drinks, requesting a double pretty much ensured I got a normal drink. They tried to sell me a membership through some low-veneer sales tactics, and I wish they just came right out and straight up asked if I'd be interested in learning about their membership. I still would have said no but it wouldn't have felt as slippery. I didn't use the pools or attend any of the activities or make purchases in any of the shops, so I can't comment on that. All of the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful. Honestly, what I liked most about this place was the landscape and the animals being cared for there. I was there for a training and didn't choose this place. I can't say that I'd actually "choose" to stay here again mostly because it's expensive and the food (which is a big part of a travel experience) was just ok and nowhere near authentic Mexican cuisine. If you're the kind of person who wants to go to Mexico to be in Mexico but not experience Mexico, this is a place for you. My visit was during summer of 2023, prime heat season. Didn't realize this hotel was eco friendly, basically good luck with air conditioning. Our check in wasn't too bad, they tried to have us upgrade our room for additional money. Only the poolside restaurant was open at around 3 so we went to eat and there was no air, food looked like it was sitting out for hours and flies everywhere. Many of the dishes were dirty. Had a few fries and bread knowing it was okay to eat if it was sitting out. Got to our room and we were catfished by pictures showed online. The room was old and very dirty. Our sink was dirty and an awful smell. After going back and forth with front desk and maintenance the sink was clogged and the sewer smell got worst. We were never offered a new room. Within the hour I knew we couldn't stay there. We talked to cheapcarribbean where we booked and they helped us get out of the hotel and find another one. I suggest to look at MANY reviews when booking. The plus of the resort was the jungle feel. read more

Went on most likely my last family vacation due to medical issues, brought the whole family to a place I was amazed with 20 years ago, but was the biggest waste of money I have ever spent I wish the resort had put in their notes online that they are closing shortly to remodel, from the stink of cesspool (it's not the seaweed) to filthy moldy pillows, bugs in the room, no ac that worked to areas that just where patched up, to flooded rooms due duct tape hold bathroom sinks together totally ruined family vacation. I came with my family for 5 nights during August. Here are some of my thoughts: Room: The room itself was standard and clean. Some things that I liked were that they had a mini fridge of beverages that are included with your all-inclusive that gets restocked every day and that they have some all-natural mosquito lotion. My only complaint was that the air conditioning seems to be very weak and doesn't fully cool the room. this is definitely dependent on what room you get - we ended up switching rooms a night into a room closer to the first floor and it ended up being a lot better. Service: Everyone we met was so kind and helpful to us. There is not one person who wasn't willing to help us or recommend activities for us to do! The dining staff is especially attentive. Food: I would say a lot of the food at the buffets is mediocre - however for the wide variety that they offer, you can't complain. They switch up for every meal and always have something new. Their tacos, though, are always really good so I highly recommend getting those if you see them. I thought the drinks were pretty good - they aren't super strong however if that is what you are looking for. Grounds: If you don't already know, this hotel shares the property with the Iberostar Toucan. Quetzal's rooms are on the left and Toucan's buildings are on the right - but it is a shared beach, pool, and gym facilities. We stayed in building 27 which is about a 7-ish min walk to the beach - which is not too bad as long as you don't mind the heat. Beach/Pool/Activities: The beach is great - but you are going to have to wake up a bit early if you want to get some chairs in the shade. People start reserving seats starting at 6am ish and then most of the seats are full by 9/10am. The ocean itself has a good amount of seaweed the first 5-10 feet but once you get past that, it's perfect. The main pool is kept at a very hot temperature - it almost feels like a cooler sauna. However the adult pool and swim up bar is the best place if you're lookig for cool water. The only activity that I tried on the grounds was rifle shooting which I highly recommend. The staff running it always makes it a good time. I also enjoyed the evening entertainment - I think the karaoke was the most fun to watch. Location: It's only about 2 mile away from downtown Playa Del Carmen. It's so touristy but I recommend the visit to 5th Street if you have the time. Overall thoughts: I think this is a great all-inclusive place, especially for families. Honestly, I would consider coming back during a time when it was a bit cooler. read more

Frank at the front desk was awesome, I wish I had more time to talk with him but we were on our last day:-( Overall this resort is very nice and well kept. The staff all over the place was awesome. The open space for dinning is just lovely, so you can see the wild life roam by. The buffet was very nice, it had food selections for everyone and it was pretty tasty. The drinks not so much not sure but they just seemed weak, even with drinking most of the day(wasted calories). This is very much a family resort, if you have kids this is a great location. They have free roaming animals, a couple of coves with animals and a dedicated area for children. If you do not have kids this place is still nice but it just depends on your tolerance for kids(and their parents) on vacation?!?! We had a great time at the Quetzal for a family Spring Break vacation. It was the first time my girlfriend and I had a trip that included our extended families. The grounds are beautiful and the beach is spectacular. The food is good but like most all-inclusive places, it takes a few meals to find food you really like. A lot of it is hit or miss. As far as amenities go, there's good and bad. The rooms are spacious but the A/C is spotty at best. The outside temperature was warm while we were there but I imagine the rooms are pretty uncomfortable during the summer months. It's also amazing how hard the beds are. I like a firm mattress but theirs are almost as hard as a tabletop. My girlfriend actually was bruised by the bed and had a really hard time adjusting. Being eco-friendly, they give you a thick glass bottle and have water stations around the property. The water dispensed is clean but it's barely cool and the ice machine on our floor never worked the whole week we were there. Ice is definitely a premium at this place as I imagine it is at all the resorts. The restaurants are ok but even though there are themed ones, they all seem to share a lot of the same items, especially desserts. The food is a little bit above average but even places like the Italian and Mexican restaurants, it's nothing special. It's nice having "free" drinks but we were all convinced their liquor is watered-down. There is no doubt the fruit juices on the buffet are watered down. The jungle area between the resort and the beach is nice. There are a ton of animals. I had never heard the call of a howler monkey and if you've never heard one before, it's definitely a hair-raising experience. The shows offered are mixed. The fire show on the beach is great and the 70s/80s sing along show is fun, but the Alice In Wonderland re-visit was just weird. We didn't make it to any of the other shows. I spoke to a guy who'd been there 12 times and he was not impressed. Apparently you used to be able to make reservations at all the restaurants. Now you can only make them at the Japanese restaurant. There are also no servers on the beach so you always have to go wait in line at one of the pool bars to get a drink. He said that Hilton had acquired an interest in Iberostar and these and other changes are directly related to Hilton's cost-saving measures. Another thing they're trying to save money on must be the pool since it was closed for at least a day while they had to clean it. Not sure how you can be lax on pool maintenance at a resort of this size, but they had a serious algae problem. Regardless of my concerns, we had a good time. Not sure I'd stay there again but it's pretty good overall. read more

Christmas time during COVID 2020: Family vacation 2 adults and a 9 year old. Location: This is a beautiful spot. I had read the reviews before booking and it was such a great deal I was worried that I would be disappointed. The grounds were very tropical with moneys, peacocks, moneys, flamingoes and other native animals. It was right on a beautiful beach with a gorgeous view, easy access and lots to do. There is even a dive spot on site. Some reviews say it's dated but they are nice, the bathrooms and shower great and they have central air. They have 3 floors and no elevators. They are also spread out and although beautiful and I didn't mind the walk, the walkway is very uneven and you have to be careful to not twist your ankle or trip on accident, especially if you have been drinking! Their service is fantastic. They really, really always tried their best to make sure we were taken care of, our drinks filled and they went above and beyond to accommodate my quirky special diet needs. Pool: Huge pool with lots of room to "social distance" and we had no problems finding spots by the pool. Same with the beach, but this may be because of COVID. They had activities throughout the day like water aerobics, music, games, etc. Sometimes cheesy but fun and my daughter loved them. Adult pool was closed and the only thing that looked like a hot tub in the middle of the pool with jets was cold so I'm not sure if it was a "hot tub." Food: Possibly due to COVID I think a lot of the buffets were closed and the 2 that were open were just ok. The one by the pool had a meager selection and the same boring vegetables every day. Either steamed broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini and carrots or a braised cabbage dish and there was no salad options. This got boring very quickly after 1-2 days. In the evening the main buffet also was very paltry. Again, because I practice a low carb way of eating and eat a ton of veggies I like to have tasty options and I was incredibly underwhelmed with my options. Specialty restaurants were better but not easy to get reservations. Entertainment: We are middle aged and had our daughter with us. So we weren't looking for a club night life. They did have nightly shows and they were "cute" but not amazing, our 9yo daughter liked them, but they are 9:30pm to 10:30ish. So kinda late as the kids entertainment but hey it's vacation. Honestly this didn't bother us at all, but younger crowds looking for more nightlife might be bored. December is a wonderful time of year to come. No humidity and the weather was ideal and perfect. We did get bit by something (mosquitos? Not sure) here and there but it wasn't horrible. I brought some bug bite stuff itch cream for those occasions. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and it was a great value and we were very happy after months and months of socially isolating at home. read more

We stayed at Iberostar Quetzal for 7 nights and absolutely LOVED our stay! The staff is so friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Alejandro was wonderful! He is a gem to keep on the Iberostar team. He has a great personality, is very funny, very fun and engaging, and was very helpful answering any questions we had. He remembered us after our first encounter and that was meaningful. We also really liked Dominique, who was so sweet and fun! She was very genuine and kind. Omar with the pool concierge was very helpful, empathetic, and kind as well. The food was excellent. The drinks were great. There was so much to do each day, including fun games that enhanced our stay! The resort itself is beautiful. The cleaning staff maintains it wonderfully. There were lots of animals roaming around, which was lots of fun. The nature was fantastic. We cant say enough good things and cannot wait to return! :) read more

We visited just before Christmas. It is a beautiful resort that has 2 symmetric buildings (Quetzal and Tucan). It is an all-inclusive resort with generous food choices. I looked at the other reviews, and I am not sure why this place is getting less than 4 stars. It is definitely not a 5-star class hotel, but it is a most excellent 4.5-Star level hotel and deserves a 5-star review for what it offers! Pros: -Directly on beach, which is clean, warm, and wide, and you can walk along it either toward the nature reserve, with few people, or toward the city, which gets more and more crowded and has more and more resorts. -There are lush gardens between the 2 buildings, with many wild animals: monkeys, peacocks, parrots, etc. Really beautifully done, refreshing, and gives a nice atmosphere. -The pool is very large and not crowded, with ample seating around (note we did not go in ultra peak season, but the hotel seemed full, but not overcrowded). There was even a free scuba trial in the pool! -There are nightly activities with a mixture of in-house and external entertainment, which were all very good, and some were fantastic (fire show on the beach!) -The food is generous, clean, tasty, and abundant choices. The general buffet is not 5-star buffet, but very good selections and variety during the week). -There are also several specialized restaurants. (We tried the Italian, which was good, but not necessarily better than the main buffet!) -There were plenty of free activities for the kids and adults (workouts and games...) -There is a free bar at the pool (at least free for non-alcoholic drinks, but I think for alcoholic drinks too) - Rooms are clean, not overly spacious, but not small either, not 5-stars, but a solid 4-stars. - When we came there were no mosquitoes, we might have gotten 1 or 2 bites between the 3 of us. Cons: (Look I'm stretching it here to give you a fair representation, this is not a perfect resort, but it is definitely very good! We peeked into other neighboring resorts to see, and this one seems one of the better ones!) - It is in a secluded area called Playacar, which makes it a bit harder to get to, but if you prefer a more secluded place, this could be an excellent pro! - The staff is generally kind and helpful, but not all. So if you get one that is not up to snuff, just go and come back when they are off their shift! Some are incentivized to up-sell on the memberships, and that felt like an unnecessary upsell. -They will offer you coupons to upsell their expensive extra services. - They encouraged booking dinners at the "specialized" restaurants, but you would then be tied to a fixed time, and they warned/threatened with a cancellation fee if canceling on the same, day, but when you cancel at the restaurant, there is no such fee. The general buffet had sufficient selections that there was no need for the specialized restaurants, except perhaps to reduce the crowding on the general buffet? - Certain on-site activities are not really worth it (archery is overcrowded for a tiny range) -Their promoted tourist activities are a lot more expensive than the general going rates from other providers, however, we did not take both to compare the level of service, so maybe it would have been worth it? -The app is buggy, and does not always work, but it worked on my wife's phone and it shows the activities. I could add many more, but should leave you some things to discover! The overall point is that this is an excellent resort (book on their official site to get some discounts, and look at both Tucan and Quentzal, sometimes one gives discounts but not the other, yet they are the same!), and you will not be unhappy if you go there. My family and family friends stayed her Nov 6th-10 for my dad's birthday. The grounds are very beautiful with palm trees, water falls, exotic birds roaming around, and a gorgeous beach that had no seaweed or rocks. It felt like I was in the middle of the jungle. When you arrive, make sure you download the Iberostar app. This has the menus for the restaurants, activities guide, and the map of the hotel. The reception desk does not have paper maps to hand out. The entertainment staff was very fun and energetic (thank you Sharon, Andy, Chocolate, Ruby, and Cesar!). They were always walking around and coaxing the guests to play games. They also put on the nightly shows. I managed to win an awesome t-shirt at Bingo. The dining staff did do a great job of helping us surprise my dad with a cake each night. Plus the food was amazing! Make sure you go to the Mediterranean, the buffets, the steak place, and the Tex-Mex place. However, I there are a few cons about the trip: -the resort is spread out. There 's quite a bit walking to get to certain places. -my bathroom ceiling kept leaking water. I called the guest service desk and reception desk about the issue. Cesar in maintenance was very quick about helping me. However, when I went to check out, the reception desk and the guest service desks had no record of my calls and they did nothing to help the situation. Their new trainee asked me, " what would you want me to do about it?" -my room backed up to the next door resort's loading dock. There was so much banging at 7am. read more

Arrived at Iberostar Quetzal, Cancun Mexico on 9/19/22. On 9/20/22 a Reception Desk Employee named Victor gave a presentation for buying a $30,000.00 Lifetime membership. Victor stated that he needed the money at that time to become a "family member." When I informed Victor that I would not put ANY money down until I spoke to my financial advisor, reviewed the contact carefully and would make an informed decision. At that time, Victor asked me if I was married and when I asked why he needed that information, he stated that "You need your husband's permission to enter into this contract." I was horrified, offended and indignant. When I attempted to talk further with Victor, he (in air quotes, with his fingers) informed me that "it doesn't matter what you think" and if married "go and get your husband for permission to sign this contract." At that time, I had to go through 3 male supervisors who snickered and laughed at me while I became increasingly irritated and indignant. When I asked for a female supervisor, "Maddy" came and spoke with me, very professional and sympathetic, stating she would "take care of this immediately." I informed Maddy that when I returned home, I would put this review on Yelp and inform anyone interested in reading a review of the facility. I also told Maddy that her employee's represented the company and was in dire need of training in Cultural Differences. WILL NOT EVER go again and all women need to know how they will be treated. The specialty restaurants are not as spectacular as they are made out to be. Plus there reservation system for the specialty restaurants is difficult to get a slot. My wife and I arrived on a Monday and we were not able to get a reservation at two of the specialty restaurants for the entire week. The buffet is just as good and there are several buffets that one can indulge in. The grounds are well maintained and there is plenty of space between units. There are no elevators, so if you are on the 3rd floor, expect to get your steps in. The beaches are clean. The staff are excellent. read more

Great resort to stay at. Friendly team members, front desk, restaurants, and the entertainers. No single day is boring at this resort, daily entertainment from 7 in the morning till 10 at night. Not to miss any shows at night light shows, magic shows, LED shows, circus and many more. They only bad part at this time around were the seaweeds on the beach. Iberostar team was trying their best to keep the beach clean. Love the fact that there were not lots of peddling going on at the beach and if there were any they were not pushy you say no and they move along. Sinatization OMG 100 out of 100. All the team members has to wear mask, walking in the restuarant you have to wear mask, going to the food station mask require or they will not serve you. Cleaning tables in between, sanitizing stations around the property along with sanitize bottles. Loved the stay here, kids, family friendly. I became a big fan of Iberostar. Overall, I would give this place a thumbs up for their willingness and efforts to keep an outdated place as clean and as friendly as can be! Every staff member that I encountered was overly helpful and friendly as well as eager to bring to your attention the on going free events and activities that were happening around the resort. We did have some issues with the room check in but considering it was a party of 9 , I will give them a pass and say that perhaps our large group was a bit more for them than the usual. The rooms are very pueblo traditional Mexican and a bit outdated but very clean so that's to be expected if it's an older establishment ;) There are 4 pools, even a swim up bar party pool and a kiddie pool. So a lot of places to hang, party or spend family time. The food was really good considering that most complain about the all inclusive resort choices. Thumbs up! Felt safe , amazing beautiful rainforest grounds with monkeys, flamingos, ponds of fish and turtles ... So much to say about this wonderful place! The animals are so cute and you feel like you are in nature even though you are only about 2 miles from 5th Ave. The pool is huge and is shared with the Tucan but there is plenty of room for everyone. The staff at the hotel are so nice and make you feel like family. From Marco in the lounge to Victor in the concierge area you are welcomed with open arms. They treat you like they have known you forever even when it is the first time meeting you. Danielle was extremely helpful with a map of the property and answering questions whenever we needed information. Maria, Jessica and all the staff in the lounge/concierge area were quick to resolve any issues that I don't even remember what the issues were. Raul the bartender in La Mascara was so much fun to talk to every night after a long day of adventure. Javier and the bartenders on the beach were easy to talk to and fun to laugh with. I would keep going but I am going to run out of space ! Iberostar is and always has been a wonderful hotel chain and they truly care about your stay and wanting to make sure you are happy while there. read more

I would have given the resort 4 stars if we would have been moved rooms the first time we asked. The beach was beautiful, the bartenders and entertainment staff were great, the food was OK, but we knew that going in. But our card reader broke while we were there so during our 3 days there, we spent a combined 4 hours locked outside our room while maintenance and security tried to open our door. After the second time, (after midnight on our second night) we asked if we could just switch rooms so we wouldn't have to deal with it on our last day.. but they wouldn't let us switch. Of course, it didn't work the next day and we spent an hour and a half on our last day trying to get into our room and then packing and moving rooms.. it was just really disappointing.. we enjoyed our time there and we didn't get angry or anything because it was no one's fault, but we didn't feel like there was any type of customer service. If you don't run into any issues, you'll have a great time!! If you expect customer service or accommodations, I would try somewhere else. read more

One of my favorite all inclusive resorts. It's great for adults only and families with children of all ages. The resort offers 5 or 6 different restaurants, including buffets. The food itself is mediocre but you can't expect gormet meals from a resort of this size. If you want authentic local food and drinks, the resort is only a five minute taxi ride from 5th Ave in downtown Playa del Carmen where the streets are flooded with restaurants and shops for tourists. Iberostar had also a few different pools to choose from (adult only with swim up bar, kids pool for the small ones, lap swim, and a huge pool for fun and activities). What I love most is that there's a small jungle in the middle of the resort with wildlife running about. You'll see flamingos, monkeys, iguanas, peacocks, and some other tropical animals that I can't pronounce. The beach is directly off the resort with soft white sand and very clean. You can relax without being flooded by locals asking you to buy things constantly and the resort offers water activities on the beach. Overall, a wonderful experience and I will be back with the kids! read more

Very, nice all-inclusive resort! The hotel was nice; rain forest like ambiance and various local animals everywhere. The peacocks will eat from your hands but do be careful of the other creatures; they don't seem as friendly. The animals do get loud but that is part of the character of the resort. The shrieks of the peacocks do remind us of "Kevin" in the movie "Up". Also, the rat-like critters are not rats but agouti or guinea pig cousins... my visiting sister in-law thought they were rats and screamed at the sight! There was plenty to do at the hotel. The staff was always busy organizing activities into the late evening hours... pulling guest into forced-entertainment servitude. Subsequently, the guests 'are' the entertainment for everyone! There is even a guy at the tennis court just waiting for someone to whack a ball back to! The pool was superb and so was the sandy beach... just watch the seaweeds--some pest in them gave my wife itchy red bumps around her waist. The 1-hour/day sailboat, boards and kayaks free-for-use are also included and fun against the waves. We also got gratis-hour of therapeutic water spa to relax in. Schedule the free photo shoot on the beach, too... the guy is funny and takes terrific memories! The evening shows and dance was also fun. You can also walk a short distance outside the hotel compound to some shopping but for the best deals or other nightlife, you'll need to take a taxi to town or Walmart... fare is about $9 for four passenger and doubles after every increment above four passengers. We stayed as a family of five ...all adults... and for 5-days. The rooms were wonderful; very clean, nice decor and comfortable. We had large, connecting jungle-view rooms on the 2nd floor; with all the amenities, hair dryer, safe-box, 110v power, mini fridge with included drinks and snacks. Our adult-aged children laughed at their kid-decked room, accented with candy, balloons and toys. Although the rooms were nice; the hot-water for showers wasn't always available; so watch for the occasional cold-showers. Moreover, each rooms had an occupancy-sensor that shuts the power down when movement stops or when everyone leaves the room. This made recharging electronics very challenging; when everyone is out or have gone to bed! The hotel should provide at least one outlet in the room that doesn't power off ...or guest will need to bring in a cat, tie toilet paper to the vents, capture one the critters, bring a candle-turntable, etc. to keep the room power on with some kind of movement. The food was fair... The buffet got boring after a while... seemed like the same stuff everyday with maybe one thing new added. Hamburgers, beef and steaks were nice but the hotdogs and pizza are a skip... pass these up! Also, the cold cuts and cheese serving area needs to be colder... I like my cheese firm, not soggy! The included, two formal dinners does help break up the buffet-monotony. Book your dinners early, the steakhouse option was fully booked and we had to settle with the Bonsai and Italian dinner... The Bonsai was good and recommended but the Italian restaurant tasted like another extension of the tiring-buffet offerings. Room service is also good... definitely, get the tacos! The drinks, on the other hand, are on the lighter side. Our kids switched to tequila-shots in an attempt at getting some kind of buzz going. With exception of the room and a couple of restaurants, the bars, buffet, lobby and rest of the facility was "open air" so be prepared to battle the mosquito attacks! I recommend some strong stuff like Deep-woods-Off. We tried the regular Off but the hotel's jungle-like atmosphere breed some very aggressive blood-suckers! Iberostar hotel, so clean, staff so kind, all buffets are so complete, on breakfast you can find eggs sunny side, scrambled, fruit different kinds, cheese, juices, bacon etc. Pools are so delicious! The weather theses days were around the high 80's, you can find some bars all over so you can have water or any kind of drinks, near of the beach there's an ice cream bar! There's no many vegetarian options only salads and fruit. The bonsai restaurant has great ambience. The stone in the boot is for those rooms located facing the Riu hotel are noisy because its facing the loading zone. read more

This place was an absolute piece of crap with 0 customer service. No matter what you asked, the answer was pretty much always "no." The food was consistently bad cafeteria food with no rhyme or reason (a salsa buffet with no chips? overcooked cheeseburgers and un-sauced spaghetti?), the booze was noticeably watered down and the rooms were outdated even by the 80's standards. The staff could not care less about their guests--even those hosting a wedding on the property (which was a total joke). This place knows it's a rip off and when confronted, even admitted it outright with the response "your one bad review doesn't mean (explicative) to us." Don't make the mistake we made. read more

This was our first time staying here as well as a first time experiencing all incluso resort and let me tell you it was so worth it. They have three different locations where you can eat (buffet) with out needing reservations or restaurants that do need reservations. My overall experience was awesome. The staff is friendly and helpful. The resort is filled with a few different types of friendly animals, plenty of food options and pools to pick from. I wished we had more time so we could have experience more beach days. One thing I would say is our bed needed a new mattress. read more

We stayed at the Iberostar Quetzal near Cancun, Mexico this past week. It was beautiful. The resort was great. We had a couple issues with one of our rooms, but staff took care of it right away. The food was really good with many choices. The pool was real nice, although it closed early and we were disappointed we could not night swim in the nice weather. The beach was really nice. Staff was great, customer service was awesome. They made things so easy and worry free. Booking excursions was simple and convenient as well. There were many animals around the resort grounds, it was neat. We became members of their Iberostar club(but it was not high pressure like they normally are), because we liked what they have to offer more than our current timeshare. They were able to get us equity from our current one to help with fees for the new one. Being a member the remainder of the time was great, really treated us like VIP! The exclusive members areas were nice, and service was even better, if that was possible. My husband and I got free massages as well, very good! When leaving, we had a personal shuttle to the airport in a very nice vehicle, as well as personal service at the airport. They took our luggage for us, and got our boarding passes and luggage all taken care of. Wow, that was so nice because things are a bit confusing in another country. We had never been treated so well before! After our trip, their staff member, Hilario, continued to text us to make sure we were taken care of. They even gave us a fun souvenir from the gift shop. We were very impressed with their service, and cant wait to go again, and stay at some of their other resorts! Thanks for an amazing trip guys! I'd give them more stars if I could!! :) Besides the pool closing early, I was only under-thrilled about the gym not opening until 7 am. Nice Resort and great selection of food. More geared for the elderly and families with young children. My Young adults and their friends not too happy here! The pool and basketball courts close at 7pm.They had to take a cab to Centro to be entertained. The weather was humid and hot. Lots of mosquito's present be sure to apply anti mosquito spray before going out. Being an older adult, I enjoyed it but not happy that the pool closed early either! Good food and ambiance. The rooms were clean and roomy. Next year the family and I will stay at another resort. Playa de Carmen a great place to visit and so much to do and see. a week is not long enough! read more

This was our second time staying here, and we absolutely love it. The staff is incredible and does everything possible to make your vacation enjoyable. We had oceanfront rooms 2002, 2003, and 2005, and they were wonderful. I want to give a shout-out to Janire Goiria, a concierge at the hotel. She went above and beyond to help us recover a phone we left on an excursion. Also, the best bartender in Mexico, Severiano, happens to work at the theater bar. We were delighted to see him again since our last visit in 2016, and Severiano was a major reason we returned to the Iberostar Quetzal for another vacation. Awful. Sat through 3 1/2 hour sales pitch that was promised to be one to one and a half hours. High pressure. Hotel sold us a tour and the bus terminal was closed for the return trip. Hotel wouldn't reimburse for a mere $20 after we spent over $15000 with them for a 16-person party! We were all sick the whole time we were there. Check in took over 45 minutes even though we had pre-checked. Their system showed different information than on the reservation confirmation. I won't stay here again. read more

After a rocky start the iberostar quetzal resort turned out to be the best resort I have ever stayed at! The resort is beautiful and the wildlife is everywhere but the staff is really what makes this place "excellente." Everyone always has a smile and says "Hola"and the activity staff, especially Louis aka"Obama" and Karlos, were absolutely fantastic and iberostar is lucky to have such amazing people ! The shows they put on every night are fantastic as well, the skills of the dancers and performers, and the variety of the shows including a lot of audience involvement make it an awesome experience . All around this is one of the best resorts around and I look forward to coming more than a few times over the coming year(s)! read more

Well let's see, they had one type of beer only and very weak drinks, the lunch was always the same (hot dogs and guacamole), and the room that was supposed to be better than the concrete bed caught on fire. We had to prove they were lying about rooms that actually had mattresses to get one. The customer service rep. (Bernard I believe) was very rude about all of the issues. For some reason, the hot tub drained into the pool so it was very hot in the pool which didn't need to be any hotter. They also had very loud peacocks there that kept you up. At one point I ordered steak and they gave me pork and insisted it was steak and any sane person could say other wise. They refused to admit the error or any for that matter. read more

We recently visited the resort for a destination wedding with our 4 and 3 year old. We had to move to 4 rooms in 3 days because the air conditioning wasn't working. We were only there for 5 days and missed out on family activities/golf due to dealing with room issues. When my husband asked to be compensated for 1-2 nights they said they couldn't do that. When he missed out on golf with his nephew/other family activities he asked if they would give him a round of golf or family excursion. Which they said they couldn't. All they would offer us was a 30 minute massage and a bottle of wine. Which again would take us away from our family and the bottle of wine was worth $7. We declined because they wanted us to sign a receipt. The next day at the wedding my husband asked for Pinot Noir for me. The sommelier brought a bottle to the table. Later the sommelier brought me a receipt wanting me to sign and pay for the $80 bottle of wine. He never once mentioned to us it was an additional cost and we reminded him about the bottle of wine they were going to give us. He acted like he knew nothing about it and lied to the manager saying he did tell us it was an additional cost. He did the same to another wedding guest. Over all it was one thing after another and no true apologies or desire to remedy the situation. So frustrating and stressful for a first trip out of the country with our two littles and for a wedding with family. Do not recommend this place. If anything goes wrong don't expect anything in return. read more
