In fact, he's so good that I kept him as my denist when I moved to Washington, DC for 10 years. I never missed an appointment with him. Dr. Wong is gentle with cleanings, and I love that he is the one who actually cleans my teeth every visit and he KNOWS when there has been any change. Additionally, he takes time to review my X-rays with me and always communicates what he's looking for and what he's seeing. I have a lot of trust in him. State employees, do not go here. This place is out-of-network so your coverage is not as good. Dr. Ian Wong was nice at the beginning but like other reviews, he will do what he can to get paid. He did not listen to my concerns on which tooth was hurting (aching for years). He kept trying to push me to do a crown and root canal on other teeth that was not in any pain. It would have costed me a lot. I left to another dentist in-network who listened to my concerns and fixed my aching cracked tooth. One word: Unscrupulous, but not any worse than Chan & You DDS further west on Laguna Blvd in Laguna West, so probably about the same. Detailed story: My husband and I saw this dentist for about a year and I forgot that I have not left a review. I had seen the good reviews here and started coming here in 2014 and stopped after 2015. First, for state workers and anyone else with Delta Dental coverage, this dentist is a grandfathered Delta Premier dentist, so your dental coverage will not go as far b/c for the same exact procedure (say a filling on a certain tooth that's 1 surface), a Premier dentist will get paid more by Delta b/c they have contracted rates that are much higher than a PPO dentist. A PPO dentist can see you even if you have the Premier plan, but if you have the PPO plan (not PPO plus Premier) and you got see this dentist who's a Premier ONLY dentist, your plan limit will be wiped out much faster. Ian Wong also finds every little tiny speck of a cavity and immediately tells you that you must get a filling. This is not true. Teeth, like other bones in your body CAN heal and you can remineralize your teeth, just look that up on Google. In about 1 year, he found and filled 13 (yes, that's THIRTEEN) cavities in my husband's mouth and never once attempted to help my husband restore naturally. Furthermore, Ian Wong will try to maximize his financial gains by finding more things to do in your mouth than you really need. So try to find a dentist that's more conservative in treatment and less interventional and invasive. This dentist definitely had a huge laundry list of items for my husband every time we saw him. Thankfully, I figured that out quickly and both left this practice (for the record, he couldn't find a single cavity in my mouth and I've been cavity free for 30+ years even going through multiple dentists so if he had found one, I would've really scrutinized his practice even more) and helped my husband improve his oral hygiene routine. In short, my experience at this dental office is that it's much more about their pocketbook than about helping you prevent unnecessary (or even necessary) procedures b/c it's really a conflict of interest if you think about it. If everyone walking through the door has great to perfect teeth and gums, they would not make nearly as much money. The question is whether this dentist has your overall health in general (oral health has been shown to be closely affected by and also affects your general health) and dental health in specific in mind. And my conclusion is that this dentist definitely does NOT have your health in mind as his highest priority. read more

Highly recommend Dr. Wong!!! I've been a patient of his for 20+ years and couldn't be more pleased with his care. He does all the cleaning and exams himself with a hygienist assisting him. His warm, caring and gentle style is very much appreciated. Thankfully I've only had to get a couple of fillings in all my time with him but he makes sure to talk you through every step of the way. First experience: teeth cleaning Second experience: filling Recommended by a coworker, where her family goes to. Dentist Wong was very very informative on both services. He would informed me of every step he was doing before he did it. He continuously asked if I was okay. It was amazing during my cleaning and first consultation of my teeth, he showed me educational animated slides on his computer on the anatomy of my teeth and what was going on and how it should be. He also gave me a pamphlet on a guide of how to care for my teeth with new fillings and caps and what not. He also informed me that I had cavities that were forming and how to be able to contain them so that they might go away or for them to not get worse where I might need to get fillings later. I totally felt that he was very informative, truthful and totally for the best interest of the patient and not just his pockets. I've tried many dentists where they did not perform my cleaning correctly where they just polished my teeth and did not do any cleaning at all, to dentists overcharging me on work that was not even done well where it needed to be redone due to the fillings falling out. It even a year later. I hope I have found my new dentist that I am going to love and stay with for a very long time until he decides to retire!!! read more

Exceptional dentist! My family and I have been going to Dr. Wong since 2015. I currently live in the Bay Area and I make the effort to go see him 2-3 times a year for my cleanings. I had my fair shares of mediocre dentists, so when I find a good one, like Dr. Wong, I'm definitely going to keep seeing him. He really cares about his patients and takes pride in his work. Fantastic dentist. The receptionist is always on it. It never fails...she will call you a couple of days prior to your appointment in order to confirm. The dentist is really thorough...he lets you know everything that he is about to do. He will constantly ask you about the pain and if you need more novocaine. Dr. Ian Wong Dr. Ian Wong is hands down the best dentist I've had my whole life. I found Dr. Wong after moving to Elk Grove and relying on fellow Yelpers to look for a new dentist. From the first visit, I knew I found the dentist that I would be going to for a long time. Dr. Wong has exceptional bedside manner and is very thorough in explaining what is going on with your teeth. Every time he looks at X-ray results, he will give you a general dentistry lesson and explain his evaluation of the X-ray and let you know every detail possible. He is very up front of what needs to be done and more importantly, what DOESN'T have to be done. I've come across a few dentists who have suggested unnecessary dental procedures just to make a quick buck. I was so impressed with Dr. Wong that I referred my parents to Dr. Wong and Dr. Wong immediately found an issue with my Mom that was possibly life threatening. In one visit, Dr. Wong found something that her last two dentists did not bother to mention. According to Dr. Wong and the specialist who did the surgery, the issue should have been found at least 10 years ago. WOW! After my Mom's surgery I had an appointment with Dr. Wong and thanked him for finding the issue. He took my gratitude as humble as anyone I've ever seen. To him, he was just doing his job and he was sincerely happy that my Mom was recovering well. Not only is Dr. Wong a great dentist with integrity and humility, he is a great guy always willing to trade stories about raising his two daughters (I have two daughters myself). My family has been seeing Dr Wong for years now. I trust him completely and have had such a great experience with him and his office. The front desk is very kind and courteous as are his assistants. Dr Wong is great at explaining and showing you details on your X-rays. I had a few spots on my teeth that weren't cavities yet a few years ago and instead of wanting to drill them immediately or trying to tell me they are cavities when they weren't, he detailed how to take care of them and told me they might eventually turn into cavities if I didn't floss. Dr. Ian Wong is such a genuine person. Not only did he make me feel comfortable, he was also great at calming me down before my cleaning.
