I brought my favorite pair of Italian boots to Boris Shoe for a sole replacement and leather…read morerefresh. As a performer, these boots are an essential part of my stage outfits and absolutely irreplaceable. I explicitly told the guy that they shouldn't be polished, as they have a brushed leather finish. He assured me he would use a neutral cream to clean them up while maintaining their look. I trusted him. He charged me $65, explaining that he would replace the soles. He even showed me two options--one looked like a Vibram hiking sole (which I immediately rejected), and the other was acceptable. Since he's the only repair shop around, and I like to support small businesses, I went ahead with it, expecting a proper refurbishment. What he failed to mention was that he was only replacing the heel, not the full sole--for $65! That's outrageous! When I picked them up, I was furious. He had used something shiny that completely altered the brushed finish I specifically told him to preserve. Not only did he not replace the full heel, but the bottom of the shoe was still dirty! He didn't even bother to clean them. The leather now feels dry, not restored. When I pointed out that the polished look ruined the finish, he actually told me it would "go back to the old look once I wear them." Seriously?! That is not how leather works. This place is a ripoff and will never get my business again. If I could give zero stars, I would. If you care about your shoes, find another repair shop--even if you have to travel to get there! PS I wish I had read this first from Wiki before taking my boots to Boris: "To clean brushed leather, gently remove dust and dirt with a soft-bristled brush, then use a damp cloth with a mild leather cleaner to wipe the surface in a circular motion;avoid soaking the leather, and finish by applying a waterproofing agent to protect it; do not use creams or waxes on brushed leather as it can damage the texture."

They make worn leather shoes look new again. I always give a $20 bill and tell them to keep the change because it's like getting a new pair of shoes each time. This last time I went, I was wearing my favorite pair of Curatore shoes. These are not the most expensive shoes I own ... but they are the most comfortable. So, because of the cheaper leather, they show wear quicker. The toe area is scuffed and they even had some icky white salt stains from walking through slushy puddles. After 15 minutes, they looked brand new. This isn't just a quick shine ... they use 3-4 different products and have 5-10 steps during the shine which ends with a buffing. You sit in a comfy leather chair and they go to work. I use the shine service at 5 star hotels a lot and the hotels can't even come close to the job they do here. The bonus is you get to walk through the bottom level of The Plaza's ritzy food court to get there. The team here does a great job with the shine but while I was there someone brought in a pair of John Lobb shoes for them to work on. If someone would trust their John Lobb shoes to this place, I have to think they know what they are doing.

Meaning, nicks in heels, leather wrinkled & scratched, skin missing at the front of both shoes. I also had dowel lifts replaced, sole guards & leather half soles affixed. Then I had them go to town by cleaning, water & stain repellant, & deodorize the interior. If that's not enough I also broke my right heel off, so they had to reinforce, plus fix the scratches. The entire time I kept asking Lenin as I handed my Max Mara heels over, "how are they going to look?" "Are they going to look like new?" "Am I going to be happy?" "Are you sure I'm going to be happy?" His response was, "we'll do our best." I'm like, I'm not feeling happy with that response. I need you to tell me it's going to be perfect. He still responded, "we will try and do our best. We always do our best." Safe to say, I handed my shoes over. It was less than two weeks & I received a call from Lenin, then an email informing me my shoes were ready for pickup. When I arrived - I jumped for joy! They looked brand new! Whoop Whoop!!!! Now I'm busy going through my closet to haul a boatload of shoes their way. Service & communication was stellar!!!! Big Smiles & Thanks!!!!

The shoe repair itself I was not impressed with. I needed a heel repair... simple and common enough. He charged $12 which was fine.. cheaper than some other places in the area that charge $15 for heel repair. The job was sloppy. Very sloppy. There was some scraps of rubber hanging off... the seams didnt match well... and you could tell they screwed up the measurement of one heel because they had to patch it over. I'll attach photos.
