Tips support the artists so make sure to bring cash with you if you'd like to tip after the show to support these upcoming comedians. There aren't any seat heaters, but surprisingly the temperature was perfect. It wasn't hot or freezing like most theaters. There's no staffed ticket counter so you either buy tickets online or use the self-serve screens when you walk in. One of the employees came over to help me at the screen, and she was very friendly. From what I could tell, they don't offer student discounts. Also, children are considered up to 11 years old, which seems odd - you'd think they'd include anyone 17 and under. They also don't allow anyone under 18 into the theater alone, and if you're 18, you can't bring a younger friend unless someone 21 or older is with you. I don't find that fair, especially for parents who want to drop off their teens for a movie night. The price difference between medium and large popcorn and drinks isn't bad, only about 75 cents to a dollar more. You get a refill on the large soda, and probably the popcorn too, though I didn't ask. I wanted water at first, but they only offer tap water from a fountain, no filtered option, which feels like a sneaky upsell. Overall, the seats are very comfortable, and the concession prices aren't terrible, especially compared to California. But not offering filtered water and restricting minors from attending movies alone just doesn't make sense.

There was also a seafood cook off and as much as I love watching cooking programs on television, watching them live is so much more enjoyable, so I was in for this event in the blink of an eye. So we arrived right before the doors were about to open and park (complimentary all around the convention center). What I noticed immediately was how many people were there standing in line. No less than 1000 guests on a big Tuesday night. Once the doors opened the line did move pretty fast. When we entered there was a table set up where they were giving away bags, hats, measuring spoons for your rice pot cher, fans and of course Tabasco products. I've noticed when someone is giving away free stuff there's a sort of mob mentality, fend for yourself, push a grandma out of the way to get some of the swag. It's crazy and me no likey. Once we escaped without getting trampled by the angry mob we got to business sampling food. Everything we tried was delish but here are some of my favorites- Charley G's Smoked Duck and Andouille Gumbo (OMG! The. Best!) Recently I was here for Patty in the Parc, an annual St. Patrick's Day party, to see Wayne Toups and Better Than Ezra. So, we had to pay for tickets and got a wristband upon entry. I'm thinking this was cool since it would allow us to come and go into the space as we pleased. More on that later. We arrived early to secure parking (it's downtown so be prepared to pay to park in one of the garages or in a guy's front yard looking to make a few dollars like we did!) and made our way into the space. The first thing I noticed was buying food or drinks were on a ticket system which really made no sense to me whatsoever. We each bought a book of ten which equaled to $10 each. Ok, this should be enough for the night especially since we weren't drinking, right? Here's how the ticket prices went: Water or soda bottles-3 tickets aka $3 Nachos-5 tickets aka $5 Jambalaya 6 tickets aka $6 Artichoke and crawfish bread bowl 9 tickets aka $9 Excuse me while I bend over. Just around the time we are contemplating going to a restaurant up the street (seriously if I'm going to pay that much for a meal I'd just as well go into a sit down restaurant) it is announced that if you leave reentry is not guaranteed because they were at capacity. Umm, excuse me-what was that? So you are telling me that although we PAID to get in and have a wristband to prove it we are not allowed to even go up the street to get a decently priced soda without the fear that we won't be allowed reentry because YOU GUYS OVERSOLD? I call bullshit. So, because of this reason we were forced to put our tickets together for three drinks and one very overpriced bread bowl leaving us with two worthless tickets. Bullshit. The place got extremely crowded and while a fun time was had by all it was almost too crowded to move and if dancing is your thing forget about it. Unless you consider standing in one spot doing the head bop dancing. You will not have enough room to shake your tail feather in other words. Leave your chairs at home, too. Unless your idea of fun is sitting in your chair with random ass in your face and not being able to see the band.

Stop here to see the story of how the Chitimacha people worked with Rosetta Stone to revive their native language that was considered extinct. We came from Oklahoma, so are very informed on the major tribes that were relocated here but we knew nothing about the Chitimacha. The Museum, the video and the story of the tribe were wonderful, and we highly recommend visiting when you're in Louisiana!

I have stopped by on a few occasions, just missing the lady who works here because she wears so…read moremany hats for the tribes. The tribe can date its history back long before the colonizers ever arrived and held a large swath of the area now known as Louisiana. They started with the tribe in Natchez and the two were intertwined for a long time, centuries. Their skills are in fishing and basket weaving, though the skills are being stretched thin, the efforts of the council have been expanding the learning of these traditions through education. Their language is being revived with the help of RosettaStone and a grant that is providing this education for free. The language is unique and unrelated to any other language. Their history is passed down orally, but there is an effort being made to get it down on paper for preservation. The lady who is in charge of the museum is well informed and involved in the day to day life of the tribe and has a large role in getting things better for the people. Come and take a look. Be patient. She wears many hats and it maybe a minute before she can let you into the museum. One of my favorite lines from the video (there are three videos to chose from, one that is a bit outdated, one about the language, and one about the history and the keeping of the history, I picked the third) was something to the affect of "If you forget about something, it ceases to exist" which is a perfect encapsulation of how the world works. Please. Stop and visit. You will not regret looking at the small details of life.
