He said that if I provided my own pump I would be charged $600 to have them come out and install it. So, my question was, what are the additional $450 for? I am ok paying it, if I know what I'm paying for, but the information from the technician just wasn't adding up to the full charge. I reached out to Five Star to ask for an invoice. It came with a one line summary of the total cost of the work. I asked if they could please send an itemized invoice and explained the reasons I just mentioned above. After a bit of insisting, they forwarded my request to the manager. This was his response: ---- Hi Veronica My name is Garrett and I am reaching out to you regarding a sump pump we did for you on Sunday. I understand there was some confusion about the charges, I am here to help! So as far as a full breakdown goes, We pay around $350 -$400 for the sump pumps, and labor comes in right around $600. The remainder of the charge goes towards our 1 year workmanship warranty, administrative tasks such as tracking, scheduling and being a support system here for you if anything were to happen with it. We stand behind our work 100%. All of our pricing is flat rate, so breaking it down can be challenging in the sense of the charge does not change if we ended up taking longer to install the pump for you. We do it this way for the customer experience, as some plumbing companies do charge per half hour or hour, and can exploit the consumer by 'taking their time' so to speak to run up the bill. We always try to be transparent with our pricing, and just know that we are here to stand behind the workmanship and product we installed for you. I am sure that if you had work done by anyone, you would hope to be able to see what you are being charged for.
