OK, it's a Saturday evening in the summer in Cheyenne. So what do you do? Play a video game? Get…read moreloaded at a bar? Watch TV? How about going to real, old school stock car races? For real stock car races with real smells, real noise, real wrecks, real attitudes! That sugar coated NASCAR crap on TV doesn't come close to the experience of seeing it live in front of you. A little red neck fun on the cheap. This venue is a quarter mile paved asphalt track with just a touch of bank on the corners. They run multiple types of cars each night including various types of stocks, modifiers and (egad) Legends. I remember my dwarf and sprint driver friends saying "it's better to be a legend than to drive one". So true. This track has nice bleachers, ample parking, food and beer sales. It a cheap $10 night's fun. There are family-friendly areas marked off in the stands where no smoking or drinking is allowed. Nice. Each race is pretty short, only about 20 laps. On a quarter mile track, that can go pretty quickly except when there are spinouts, wrecks and other mayhem. And that does happen. It takes a bit to go get the hook and pull apart the carnage. The fun bit is with all the safety gear and the short track, people don't get hurt, but they do tangle up! So, as they say at our California track "let's trade some paint!". I was in town to visit my son at the local air base and hauled his crew of jokers over to the track for the evening. We had a blast. This is rural Americana at its finest.

The speedway is very small and the race cars are often slamming into each other. I am well aware they do this at large speedways but it is hard to discern if this was happening because of the size of the speedway or if i just was witnessing just normal racing 'etiquette'. The crowd to put it mildly is interesting and if you like to people watch then this is the place to go. It seems like about three trailer courts dropped off their tenants here for the evening. Definitely a culture I am not a part of and that is OK by me. This year (The year of 2011) the season has been cut short due to bad weather and threats against the drivers. Wait. Threats against the drivers? By whom? With a rough crowd like this who knows how the actual drivers treat each other. A rough and tumble good time to say the least.

From showing me how to do the simplest things on my car, to helping me find parts and rig up fixes, and hosting awesome races, I cannot find anything to complain about. If I could give 6 stars I would. This place is an absolute gem. Please never go away! When you enter, you will be in the hobby shop which is a fully stocked and well sorted RC car hobby shop. They have yet to not have the part I need and have plenty in stock for many brands of RC cars. In the back is the indoor clay 1/10th offroad RC track. It has a great and ever changing layout. Behind the track is a large pit area where racers set up and work on their cars. The amount of help I have gotten from the other racers cannot be measured. When not asking for help, help is offered anyway. Everyone works together to make sure everyone has what they need and has a great time. It really is a great community here. Outside is a small rock crawling course as well as a large turf track. I have yet to run on it but have watched videos and it looks like a blast. I look forward to running outdoors in the summer. Parking is plentiful and the accessibility was great. We took my elderly father and there were elevators, accessible restrooms and plenty of seating options indoors and outdoors. Food is like crappy high school cafeteria food at restaurant prices, so keep your expectations low. Bring cash for betting (and there are several ATMs in the building). I recommend going when it's not crowded. Races are longer on weekdays before 5:00p, for the same price. Yes, cart racing is expensive, but they have a variety of deals that can make it more affordable. On our last visit, we tried axe throwing - it's fun too! There are decent food and drink options here, so it's got everything you need to have a seriously fun day. I try to present the good and the bad, so having covered a lot of good: We have had encounters with a couple of rude employees (but far more of them have been nice). And they need to do a better job of keeping up the karts; there were seatbelt issues on several karts that I recently drove, and one kart had the front cowling pushed back so far that my fingers were squashed against the steering wheel in turns. Sometimes a kart didn't want to start. Etc. All signs of a lack of proper inspection and maintenance.

You fill out a waiver and take a picture at the beginning as they print out your times. (don't forget to pick a killer nick name) They let around 7 people race at a time and while you wait for your turn you can order food and watch on the track. Drinks are only for after you drive. They have a quick 5-minute training video to tell you all the do and don'ts. You can bring in your own cake if you are going for a birthday. The actual racing was so fun. I was very out of my element so obviously I didn't do well and crashed into the side of the railings. Beyond embarrassing but the workers ran to help me and were so concerned. I was not hurt at all just stuck in the barrier and very embarrassed. I finished the race and followed the rules of the flags that they wave. I did have to sign a form after to make sure I was okay. Travis the bartender and Matthew were so nice after I... crashed. lol I'm sure that is a rare experience as I suck at this stuff but it was a great time! Great for events and office, friend, birthday get together. Its definitely more fun if you know the people that you are racing with. Thanks for a good time. Overall, 4.5/5

Each racer got two 12 lap races, food & drink, one hour reserved seating, arcade tokens & top finishers got medals - plus all racers got to race together with a reserved time. The price was about $80 per racer. We paid separately for additional food for spectators. These go carts are electric, so no smell & pretty quiet. A few things to note, racers need to be at least 48 inches tall & if you have more than twelve racers you then split into two groups. Also, K1 has an Arrive & Drive option for just racing, it's first come first serve. The day we went was for a birthday. After checking in racers registered & signed waivers after which they got balaclavas & helmets. Instructions were given but it was rather hard to hear. Our racers had a blast...they loved it - it was a great experience. Right after racing our lunch was ready, it was served buffet style. We choose Cheese & Pepperoni Pizzas, BBQ & Buffalo Chicken Wings & soft drinks. There were no salad or vegan options. The pizza was good, however the wings were even better & delicious. Since we were a big group we had a private party room. The only outside food allowed was dessert. Our party ran smoothly, the staff was friendly & very helpful. All in all a great time!

PROs: ++ There's several different tracks (3 or 4) offered: beginner, intermediate, and pro. ++ All tracks run on a counter clockwise configuration - so there's no confusion about which way you should be riding. ++ They do offer happy hour pricing - though now I cannot recall the days, times, or pricing. Whoops! CONs: -- At $20 a rider - admission was a bit more expensive than I expected. Though it was my first time at a motocross track so perhaps I just don't know. After explaining it was for me to putt around on he said there was one area we were allowed to ride it far from the other tracks - gee, thanks. After all is said, Jewel Motocross Track was an "OK" experience in my book. I doubt I'll be making my way back any time soon - but wouldn't mind if I did.
