Hôtel Lille Europe might be the best located hotel I have stayed at in years. Located right next to…read moretwo major train stations, a bunch of restaurants, a grocery store, and a a giant Westfield mall, this hotel offers literally everything you could possibly ask for while staying in the city of Lille. I checked in here on Monday morning and it was such a good experience. Our train got to Lille early in the morning and not only did the staff let us check in at around 9:00AM, they didn't even charge us an early check in fee. The employees here were so friendly throughout our stay it was such a breath of fresh air to not have to worry about anything. Our room was on the small side but had a very clean washroom, a television, a mini fridge with snacks and drinks at VERY reasonable prices, and an extremely comfortable bed that I very much enjoyed sleeping on. We decided to get breakfast at the hotel on Tuesday and the buffet style presentation had a bunch of baked goods, fruit, meats, and eggs to choose from and definitely did the trick. Overall, Hôtel Lille Europe was a home run of a hotel and my favourite place to sleep during my trip. I would absolutely stay here in the future if I find myself back in Lille, I can't stress enough how great the experience was.

Staff check you in quickly and the rooms are an ok size by European standards. The rooms don't have air-con but the windows can be opened (although bring your earplugs as it can be noisey from the main road). There is however decent sound proofing between rooms. Room amenities include cable television, mini-bar and hairdryer. The breakfast room is a good size and consisted of the usual; ham, cheese, boiled eggs, yoghurt, muesli, french bread, etc. There is also a luggage room to store your belongings after you check out if needed

Surprise, surprise - the first restaurant I went to when I hit France again was named after…read moreNapoleon. Actually, that was really a coincidence because it just happened to be next to the railway station, but the name did play a part in making me want to sit down and have a meal here. Actually, this place is more a pub than a restaurant, but they do have a decent selection on the menu, and the staff are incredibly nice. In fact their customer service was nothing short of awesome (including giving us an update on when our food was expected to be ready - something that I haven't encountered anywhere else). I ended up having the steak, which was delicious, while my brother had the hamburger. It certainly is a pretty nice place and well worth checking out.

It looks okay, it's convenient, and *right here*" After eating, you realize: 1 - *that* is how bad it could be, 2 - you were ripped off for bad food, and 3 - you really should've gone to the restaurant you'd intended, no matter how tired or hungry you were. Le Napoleon is just such a restaurant. Food: Bland. The food had almost zero flavor. Service: After dropping bread on the floor, the waiter put it on top of another bread basket. I'm not sure if that bread was reused or thrown out, but even seeing that was gross. Prices: 18 euros for a modest amount of pasta and water. Atmosphere: I sat inside, yet smoke seemed to waft through all the time. I didn't see anyone smoking inside, so I'm not sure how that happened. Fundamentally, there is no ambition with this restaurant. Nor should there be: they're getting those too impatient to go elsewhere. Avoid. There are far, far better options all around. You can even get decent sandwiches around the corner (go forward, take a right & another right) for half or a third the cost of my dinner.

city hotel The first…read morenight here was somewhat disappointing the room I was given had not been cleaned and I was upgraded to a larger room for the inconvenience. When I extended my stay I was told I would need to change back to a basic room. There was a sleazy creep working the front desk that day and he gave me a terrible room on a different floor. I asked before moving if there were any rooms available on the same floor and he told me that he was giving me the best small room available and that it was worth the move. When I arrived at the room with my baggage there was construction going on throughout the entire floor, the room had a tiny window in the corner and there was no desk or table. I went back to the front desk with photos of the room I had reserved saying there should be a desk/table and the creep started mumbling something to a supervisor and then reluctantly asked me to move back to the SAME floor I had been on. And the room was only 2 doors away from my original room. The room was exactly as pictured, big window/balcony, table/desk, more space. What a scam. There were a total of 5 of these rooms available when I looked up the inventory and the creep went out of his way to move me to a different floor to the WORST room they had available just to be a douche. When I told him the first room was a complete downgrade and asked why he wanted to give me that room he laughed/shrugged everything off and said that the difference in rooms is all a matter of preference. Yeah ok weirdo. You absolutely ooze sleaze you miserable creep, your customer service skills would be much more suitable on a used car lot. Get a life. Typical france. Besides that there are homeless people sleeping at the entrance, the rooms are not very clean, and the water takes a really long time to get warm. Tiny TV with no english channel, no fridge or kettle. Very basic and horrible sleazy representatives. Believe me you'll want to shower after any interaction with the slimey creep at the front desk. Zero stars

For anyone who wants to pick this hotel, the reception closes at around 7pm, so do not arrive late, or else I have no idea how you would get your room. I had a twin room, and it was rather surprising, one of the beds provided was a roll-out bed. The mattresses on both beds were wafer thin. From a positive perspective, a small kitchenette and kettle was available in the room. I did not buy the breakfast option with the room, rather, opted to buy food from Carrefoure in the Euralille shopping center (no relation to this hotel I believe). In short, acceptable for those on a budget, but keep your expectations low.

After several hours of back and forth, including putting a dispute on my credit card, I finally got the extra money refunded. So beware if you use a third party booking system! Despite this annoying and time wasting hiccup, this was a great little hotel! The location is incredible, it is right next to the main train station. We had a very early 6:00 am train and wanted to stay somewhere convenient so we wouldn't have to wake up at an even more ungodly hour to rush to the station with our bags. The location is a blessing yet also a curse, as while you are close to the train station, that means your view will most likely be of a busy (and noisy) road and there aren't a lot of dining options nearby or even within walking distance. The room had thick, double paned windows that did a surprisingly good job of muting the road noise, but we get hot in Europe (especially during the winter months when they blast the heat) and like to sleep with our windows open to cool things down. We were cool, but it was loud outside -- so it's a catch 22 when it comes to sleep quality. We arrived in the late evening and got a bit twisted around from the Eurostar station but finally found the hotel. It was buzzing in the packed lobby, which apparently has a very popular bar because it was busy with locals. It almost looked like a nightclub instead of a hotel! Check-in was swift and as pleasant as you'd expect at a French hotel. Our room was large and spacious, with a weird layout -- the bathroom toilet was separate from the shower, like in far opposite corners of the room. I've never seen that before. The room was well equipped with a mini refrigerator, a microwave, a tea kettle and a Nespresso machine! These were very nice amenities, especially for a non-luxury hotel. Toiletries in the form of a multi-use body wash and shampoo in the shower were provided as were the standard teeny tiny European hotel towels. The bed was pretty comfy and soft-ish, a true compliment for a hotel bed in Europe. There was a curtain dividing the room if you needed some privacy (it reminded me of my old dorm room, lol). Free wi-fi, but an extra charge if you plan to take breakfast. We just grabbed a croissant at the train station while we waited for our (delayed) SNCF train.

Various different kinds of Organic teas. The Complementary bathroom products were really lovely too, comprising of everything you'd need (shower cap, nail file, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser & facial moisturiser. All care products are Fairtrade. We had breakfast - it was a delicious buffet. Definitely recommend the Novotel suites! One of the nicer places we've stayed at for sure.
