This is a lovely boutique non-smoking hotel in Biarritz, France. It is a short walk to the beach and downtown restaurants. A real charmer.

Not all the rooms here are created equal, in the fact the hotel has a significant number of suites which all have their own character. The property is expansive and service is attentive to every detail. The rotonde is where a magnificent seaside breakfast is served each morning. It feels like you're in a history museum and it has to leave. Be sure to book a room with an ocean view- you won't regret it. There are two pools at the property one indoor pool and an outdoor one. Given the sizes of these they rarely feel highly occupied. Love the hallway carpeting with the distinct shade of blue scattered with bumble bees which I think is the same as the guerlain logo.
Hotel Sofitel Biarritz Le Miramar Thalassa

The Sofitel Biarritz Le Miramar is obviously a renowned luxury hotel around Biarritz. We spent…read morethere 5 nights and enjoyed it. The staff is willing to have you enjoy your stay. However there are several weak points to be aware of. First weakness : the building itself is of a weird design, like a cruise ship : many of the rooms, if not a majority of them, except the suits, have barely a view. It is too bad given the beautiful location facing the ocean shore. Even with "room with partial ocean view", one can barely enjoy this view. Second weakness : the interior design of the entrance and bar area of the hotel makes it not intimate at all. It is much more like a hallway than a hotel. Thus, for people enjoying boutique hotels, this is absolutely not an hotel they would like. Third weakness : the "huge" feature of the hotel with service not always at the top. We had a service issue in our room and due to a bad coordination with the front desk and guest relation desk, our issue could not be dealt on a timely and satisfactory manner. We gave a precise feedback to the guest relation desk, and thought they would sort out this issue. They did not and did not provide us with a response, which was annoying when we found out that they did not sort out the issue we had been facing. Indeed, the hotel has a lot of staff on training : one has the impression these people on training are not well managed, while being too much on the front line with clients. This can give this impression of "à peu près", which is not acceptable for such a high-standard hotel.

We asked if we could possibly get a room with a view and they accommodated! It was a partially obstructed view, but we were thrilled nonetheless, and spent much time on the balcony or with the patio door open, listening to the waves. The room was large and generally comfortable. The pool was big and fantastic. And as always, Sofitel service is phenomenal. This is an older property, and while the rooms have all been nicely updated, the hotel itself is in need of modernization. It looks quite dated. Also, I think they try a little TOO hard with the bedding, and the pillow tops and flourishes actually made the bed look awesome and inviting, but ultimately feel kind of uncomfortable.

Our room was impeccably clean and charming with chic yet cozy decor. While these features are worth noting, it was the staff that truly optimized our experience. We were given a full tour, assisted with our luggage, and overall made to feel truly welcomed. They were overall beyond professional and kind! Highly recommend.

For those with a car, there is limited parking for an additional fee. You may want to see if you can book a space ahead of time. If you do not want to park, we were able to find free street parking a few blocks away. Our car was safe and undisturbed. Note that we came in the low season so I do not know how easy street parking would be in the high season. The hotel is an older building with some modern updates. There is a small lobby and a breakfast room. Check in was flawless. The lady spoke fluent English which was most helpful as my French is rusty at best. She gave as an overview of Biarritz and made several recommendations. She even explained the parking situation and told us where we could find the free parking. We got our room keys (RF cards) and went to the room. We ordered a junior suite. There was no separate room. I guess the chaise lounge made it a suite. That being said, it was a nice size room with a comfortable bed. We were on the second floor and had a view of an alley. We could fully open the windows and take in the sea air. There was individual temperature control. The bathroom was spacious by European standards and there were slippers and robes. Linens were soft. Provide bath products were adequate. I found the room to be comfortable. The sleep quality was good. There was no noise at night. The Wi-Fi seemed fast, but we did not try to stream any movies or Netflix. It was fine for general surfing for sure. There is breakfast for an additional fee (16 Euros I believe), but we did not partake. I heard it was quite good. Check out was a breeze. We were able to store our bags as we roamed through Biarritz for the day. We came back to the hotel and grabbed them before departing. I gave this place five stars. We received individual attention at check in and the host was quite gracious. She took time to go over the sights at Biarritz and gave us suggestions. She also told us about the free parking and gave us opportunity to find it. The rooms are large and comfortable. The location is great. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
