I want to be fair and honest in this hotel review. Firstly, everything in Geneva is astronomically priced. I mean, $20 for a great burger and fries? I thought LA was bad. A block to lots of great shopping and stores. Venture across the bridge to stroll through all of the high priced designer stores and watch stores; buy if you can! This is a storefront type of hotel, and ideally situated--I'll return to this in a minute. Two blocks from the main train station. Two blocks from the water and the main bridge to old Geneva. The five star hotels on the water are a block or two from this hotel, so it doesn't get much better. The five star attributes are the breakfast that is included. It is wonderful. You can boil your own eggs, lots of crossiants, fruit, juices, espresso, and a variety of teas. It was a great start to our morning. The other five star attributes are the staff. My French is minimal, as is my Spanish, but they all speak near flawless English. They were all friendly, helpful, and wonderful to work with in all cases. Now for the three stars...not so bad really. It is steps to the red light district, which if you don't mind the incessant racket of mens' loud voices well into the wee hours, it's not half bad. Remember that the Four Seasons is just blocks away from it too. The beds are pretty horrible. We had two twins which both sagged terribly to one side. The carpet is threadbare, and there is only an armoire to store your things, aside from being quite tiny. A small shower with a shower curtain is what you get. The lift is tiny and there is a spiral staircase, so you better hope that it is working (we were on the third floor so when it was out, we were fine). Woe be to the traveler who doesn't travel light if it goes out. We were there a week, and once you get used to not traveling business or first class, it was wonderful. If I went to Geneva again, however, I would try to stay across the bridge in old Geneva...if I could afford it! This is a three star hotel with a lot of positives to it. read more
