The funky bar area inside hotel N'vY. Great cocktails too!

Anyone who has been to Geneva knows how unnecessarily expensive the city can be. I've always believed that Switzerland charges above-standard European prices without much of the European charm. Unfortunately, some of us are forced to visit Geneva for meetings. Geneva hosts most of the international organizations and they prefer to meet in the city. It was a last minute hotel search that led me to the Manotel N'vY (interesting spelling). It used to be hotel Epsom. The Manotel group renovated it entirely and changed the name to N'vY. Perhaps for the best! In a city where a shitty hotel room can cost around US$500, the N'vY is fairly reasonable with above-average rooms. In fact, the rooms are pretty large for a standard European hotel. I had a small sofa and a decent sized working desk in my "standard" room...and enough room to move around without hitting the bed or walls. My room even had mood lighting. There is no mood lighting that can capture the rapid change in my mood, but it was a nice touch nevertheless. The staff are extremely polite and helpful. From showing me around the restaurant and bar to walking me to my room, they have been trained well. The hotel bar is pretty funky with an impressive cocktail list. In typical Geneva pricey tradition, all cocktails are $20 and above, but they are well made...my Aviation was excellent! The hotel is centrally located with easy access to public transit and downtown. Getting to the airport is fairly easy on public transit, and you can walk to the lake. There is not much going on in terms of "views", but the clean and ample hotel rooms make up for it. Definitely recommended if you are looking for a clean, spacious, reasonably priced hotel in the Geneva city centre.

The interior of the hotel and design is so modern and different from any hotel that I have ever been to in quite literally the world. The beds are comfortable and the rooms clean and well kept. The breakfast in the morning has variety and is fresh. Now...the staff is something else. Swiss folks are notorious for being standoffish and cold, but the staff at this hotel takes it to a whole other level. Except for one woman who works at check in and the cleaning staff, the rest of the staff don't smile, greet or acknowledge guests of the hotel. They don't make any eye contact or crack a smile. They treat people like they are part of the furniture. It really is no excuse to say that "oh that's just how the swiss are" because this is a hotel where people from all over the world stay at and so the staff should learn some basic universal hospitality practices.

What a gorgeous hotel. This is definitely my favorite hotel in Geneva and it's one of the last of…read morethe privately owned (not big chain) five star grand hotels in the city center. The lobby is small and intimate but fabulous and all done in woods, Italian marble, lots of plush green walls with marble busts, statues and artwork. There's also the famous "Leopard Bar" in the hotel. I booked via AMEX FHR (the hotel is also a member of Leading Hotels of the World) and got a wonderful deal with breakfast and a room upgrade. Try to get a room in the front of the hotel facing the lake because you'll have the most beautiful view of the jet d'eau and the quai. Reception was so kind and actually showed me a couple of rooms. I ended up taking a room that was on the side because I loved the color and the artwork, but I could still see the lake when I looked out the window. All the rooms are different colors and shades and have different themes. Mine had a turquoise hue with a Parisian "can can" theme, original artwork and a chandelier. I also saw a room in the center with a direct view of the fountain that had a nautical royal blue theme. The thing this hotel is really famous for is the high tea at the Windows restaurant. Make a reservation in advance because it's very popular. It's something you can't miss. Try to nab a window seat with a view of the lake. The tiered tea tray is incredible and they make fabulous scones. I actually consumed an entire tier by myself! They also have a wonderful breakfast in Windows restaurant and I highly recommend the fresh crêpes with maple syrup (sirop d'érable). After breakfast, take a walk in front of the hotel to the quai where there is a modern statue for the Empress of Austria, Sisi, who was tragically assassinated nearby in the 19th century. She was staying at the Beau Rivage hotel next door. All in all this is my favorite hotel in the area. You won't be disappointed if you love the classic, grand hotel style. As it's privately owned and a part of the Red Carnation hotel group, it's not completely modernized and sparkling high tech new like some of the other hotels which have lost their character. That's its charm. And it's beautifully run and well managed. After a day the staff all knew me by name, Even the staff that I had not met! I don't know how they do that , but it's very nice

Wonderful views of lake Geneva and the famous fountain and the location couldn't be better. I mentioned the service.. the concierges were always available and both accommodating and understanding. The bartenders and bell men remembered my name and my drink; in fact I believe everyone remembered my name and there is almost nothing quite as impressive as adherence to a team concept of serving your customers. The Ritz had it down. No they don't have a spa; but they accommodated us with in room massages that were excellent. If you're lucky enough to be there during the "dans la noir" dinner, it's well worth the time and was quite a dining adventure. (And another chance for the team at this hotel to flex their service abilities) During a night out in Geneva, when we couldn't find ice cream, yes we called our friends at the concierge desk who were happy to direct us: there wasn't a thing that the staff at his hotel wasn't available for! I've enjoyed a number of Ritz Carleton hotels around the world but this hotel earned my respect for a wonderful stay.
