We are so happy with our backyard thanks to Hugo and his team! Throughout the project, Hugo made sure to explain everything to us and share his ideas and expertise about what we envisioned for our yard. When unforeseen things came up during the project, Hugo made sure to give us possible options and let us decide what we liked best. We also appreciated that his team was very hardworking, friendly and worked well together. We got a quote from a bigger company, but were pressured to make a decision the same day, which we didn't appreciate. Also, with the bigger companies, there is so much other staff involved (office staff, designer, owner, workers, etc) that you end up with a lot of unnecessary costs. Hugo fulfilled all those roles, which made everything run smoothly. Hugo didn't put any pressure on us and was very patient with us while we went back and forth on what paver and grass selections we wanted. If you want to work with a business that's honest, hard working, and detail-oriented, we definitely recommend HZ landscaping!

Would not work with again. He wanted to charge extra for every little thing. If you decide to work with him, make sure every little thing is spelled out in the contract. I hired HZ landscaping to pave the 2 dirt walkways along the side of our house. My only requirement that I emphasized was that i wanted water to drain away from the house. When he gave me the initial estimate, he tried to push for wire mesh instead of rebar. He said both are the same price but he said wire mesh is better and would not crack as easy. I said I wanted rebar and made him write it specifically on the contract. The contract also specifically say 4" concrete broom finish, dig 5" dirt and haul away on both sides. When it came time to start work, he said rebar was more expensive at the store and he said he had to charge extra. I had to argue with him on that. When it came to hauling away dirt from the dig, I had a small 3x3 concrete pad that needed to be demolished and hauled away that I assumed was part of the haul away since it was part of the pathway. He said the concrete debris was more than he thought and there is an extra $50 charge for it. The concrete also needed to be poured higher than our wooden gate. He said he needs to charge extra to cut the bottom of it. At this point, I was tired of him trying to keep charging extra here and there so I said I will do it myself. The framing was done by him and his son. After the pouring, I noticed that water was puddling in certain parts. I pointed it out the day after pouring to his son, and his son said it should drain after the framing is removed. I pointed it out to him on the day of removing the framing, and he got short with me and blamed me for not letting him pour higher near the house side even though he could have easily poured lower on the side it should be draining.

We hired HZ Landscaping to tear out our old, sad lawn and install artificial grass and cover our parking strip with brown chip. Hugo and his team did a wonderful, thorough job, and the results are beautiful. His team even offered to plant some pretty vinca that we picked up at a nursery. Hugo is very friendly and easy to work with, and he and his team worked quickly and efficiently, always cleaning up after themselves. His price was very reasonable, too. I won't hesitate to use HZ again for other projects--in fact, I've already spoken with Hugo about one--and I'd recommend them to anyone looking for an excellent landscaping company.

Happily Returned client of HZ. I was happy with the very first job Hugo did and so I called him back to do pavers and sod for my front yard. Again, he went above and beyond with the completed job. All in the details. You can see it in the pictures. Thank you Hugo and team!!

stamped and colored concrete connecting patio and existing walkway, the new concrete walkway along the back was not stamped.

Hugo and his crew were great in tackling a job in our mobile home park. Hugo is easy to work with despite the Covid restrictions and supply shortages and the difficulty of working in small spaces with rules. Our job was to complete a concrete walkway around the mobile home, connecting to 2 existing areas, one a walkway and one a patio. We decided on a 'stamp' for the concrete that mimicked a brick look as you can see in the photos. Hugo also enclosed the air-conditioned in a lattice frame, and staked a neighboring hedge that was threatening to topple over onto our property. The project was competitively priced, completed in agreed upon timeframes, executed well and we are 'super' pleased with how it turned out.

I got a couple of quotes through Yelp, but ultimately decided to go with Kay Green -- and I'm so glad I did. It took Young and his crew about a day and a half to complete the project. I live in a townhouse community, and they were very respectful of the shared space. They did an excellent job cleaning up the carport area they used for their equipment and materials. We ran into a few unexpected issues during the project, but Young was always upfront about what was happening and communicated his solutions clearly. His recommendations were thoughtful and turned out great. I would definitely use Kay Green again for any future landscaping projects and will happily recommend them to family and friends!

They ruined and broke numerous branches while admitting that these plants are very delicate. They rushed the job that should have been at least two hours and finished in one hour. I should have stopped them after the owner told me to go inside and they will let me know when they were done. You never tell someone that's paying you $500 dollars to take your time and do a professional job to go inside. I should have told him to get the F off of my property and hired someone else. I would have been better off hiring men from Home Depot. Totally unprofessional, rushed the job, ruined a couple of plants and didn't give a shit how it looked, even after I showed the owner the damaged plants and all the broken branches only to find more as the branches dried out in the weeks to come. He tells me the plants are delicate, but yet they didn't treat them that way. I will never hire this unprofessional company again and recommend that you don't hire them either. They have plenty of help to do a good job, but refuse to do so. This was a total rip off job to the tune of $500. I'm so sorry I hired this clown to do this job, every time I look at what they did it makes me sick and pissed that I didn't throw them off my property and paid them nothing. I've waited weeks to write this review, in hopes that the job would look better, but it doesn't. Thanks a lot, KAY GREEN LANDSCAPING FOR DOING A SHITTY JOB AND TELLING ME TO GO INSIDE. I should have kicked your ass to the curb and told you to take a hike.

The team was incredibly reliable, highly communicative, and deeply detail-oriented throughout the entire project. Their craftsmanship is top-tier, and the high-quality work truly speaks for itself. They are so experienced that their partnership and suggestions enhanced the overall product and turned our outdoor space into the perfect peaceful retreat. We could not be happier with the results! Huge thanks to Matt, Danny and the team.

Another very happy customer of South Bay Design and Landscaping…read more We had South Bay out to do a full demolition of the existing "landscaping" from when we bought our house and the installation of an entirely new plan from our landscape designer (check out Dawn Engel- she's great!), which included a patio space, a pergola, driveway extensions, hogwire fence, raised planter beds, and a side gate added to our existing fence. These guys do not mess around. Demolition went insanely quickly, and our property was kept neat and tidy the entire time. We never once saw dirt tracked anywhere by the crew, which we can't say the same for any of the other contractors we've worked with (and we're actually quite happy with some of them!), and which becomes even more insane to think about when you consider the nature of landscaping work. Installation went as smoothly as South Bay possibly could have made it. Any time we ran into the occasional hiccup, as happens with all nontrivial projects, Matt, Danny, and Marcus offered thoughtful suggestions and made sure to confirm exactly what we wanted before proceeding. (We had either or both of Matt and Danny on-site most days of our project, and interacted with Marcus via email.) We were delayed a smidge by some heavy rain, but the crew worked through all but the worst of it (talking "if you step in that mud, you're going to lose a boot" type of rain). Partway through the install, we discovered that the previous landscapers had managed to make the L-shaped pathway leading from our driveway to our front door square with nothing- which wasn't easily noticed until we had the planter beds in and hogwire fence line chalked out. (South Bay had laid those out properly square to the driveway and house, as per our plan.) Matt, Danny, and crew were thankfully able to accommodate our request to fix our pathway up by picking up each segment and pushing the out-of-square part over by 4-6 inches; this added about a week of extra time to our project, mostly due to the fact that not all of the pavers could be reused, and that the pavers had actually been discontinued (!). The guys worked around this by sourcing very similar pavers in a different size, and basically cutting and grinding them to match our existing pavers. Post-install, the only way you'd know there are two different pavers in our pathway is if you'd seen it being taken apart and rebuilt. Plants, irrigation, and lighting all went in straightforwardly after the hardscaping work was finished, and Danny gave us a complete walkthrough of all our new outdoor systems. It's been about a week since our project was completed; the plants are all thriving, and we're still ecstatic about our new yards (and so are our neighbors!). In short: we had a fantastic experience working with South Bay Design and Landscaping for our landscaping project. They take pride in doing a quality job, and it shows in everything from demolition to day-to-day jobsite management to the finished project. If you're looking for landscapers, these are your guys. (Special thanks to Matt and Danny for graciously handling my incessant "are you sure you didn't forget about such-and-such little detail?" questions and never once forgetting about any of the details, and also to Sergio for spending basically an entire Saturday morning troubleshooting what ultimately turned out to be a manufacturing issue with our pergola.)

After looking around online, we found 101 Landscape and reached out. Alex got back to us quickly and came by to check out the space and talk through what we had in mind. We ended up doing a full refresh across the driveway, front, side, and backyard. In the front, we replaced the concrete driveway with pavers, added a grass lawn, and included a decorative planting area. Along the side and in the backyard, we replaced all the concrete with pavers, added more grass, and created another mulched planting area for low-maintenance landscaping. Since it was such a big project, we spent a lot of time in the design phase to make sure we'd be happy with the long-term results. Alex was very patient and flexible with us throughout the process. Once we gave the green light, the crew started pretty quickly and finished in about 3 weeks, which was impressive given all the demolition, hardscaping, and softscaping involved. The quality of the work really shows (see photos) and they even pressure washed the front and back upon completion. Cost-wise, it was definitely an investment, but we feel like we got great value for the quality and scope of the work. We're really happy with how everything turned out and can't wait to enjoy our new outdoor spaces. Would definitely recommend 101 Landscape to anyone looking for a full outdoor upgrade!
