ate this kids cheeseburger meal multiple times and loved it
    Lindsay F.

This place was a hit for my fam of 3 (2 adults and 1 3 y/o boy). We're local outside of LA, but wanted to do a staycation for Father's Day. For Friday - Sunday of Father's Day weekend, it was around $900 after taxes and fees. I do agree with other reviews that the rooms could use some upgrades based on the price point of the place, but our room (632) didn't have any major visible problems. There are 3 pools on site, with the one nearest our room designated as the one for kids with a water park-like slide, splash pad, and a hot tub. We spent almost all of our time here both days and our son loved it. The pool water was really cold, however, but that's to be expected when it's barely in the 70s outside. Just be aware there aren't any lifeguards anywhere. It was at this pool where a lot of the daytime activities were held like limbo, twister, and tattoos/bracelets for kids. We were able to find chairs both days without an issue. The poolside bar and food prices weren't bad. The day we spent the most, I think it came out to around $100 with tip for 3 mixed drinks, a kid's meal, and some chips and queso. We all loved our son's PB&J meal. We ate multiple meals at the restaurant, but sat in the bar area since it was more kid-friendly. There were kids in the restaurant, but it was a very upscale vibe and we didn't want our rowdy toddler disturbing anyone, so we sat in the bar area at the same table for every meal. That worked out because we could watch the World Cup games in there. The restaurant food was surprisingly good and fair on price for quality and quantity. We were really surprised by all of that. I ate the same salad twice because I loved it so much, and my husband and son loved the burgers. The breakfast burritos were bomb, too. I don't know why so many people complain about the self-parking situation. The "hill" people were referencing in reviews I read ended up not even being steep enough to be called a ramp, let alone a hill, and was maybe 1.5-2 basketball courts away from the front door?? The parking lot is super close to the front door if you park on the side nearest there (which is furthest from where you swipe your room key to get in), and we had no trouble at all getting our bags inside from there. Make sure you park on the circle drive first and go in and get your room key because you have to have that to swipe into the parking lot. We were a 12-15 min. drive from the beach and even closer to Balboa. We went near the beach the 1st day to watch the game and walked around, but honestly stayed on the property the rest of the time because there was plenty to do there. Some of the other activities my son enjoyed were cotton candy and face painting. We'd definitely stay here again!

I recently attended a concert at the amphitheater for the first time, and it was such a great experience. The outdoor venue is the perfect size (not too big) so you have a good view of the stage no matter where you're seating. Though I didn't stay at the hotel, I was impressed by the level of service. From the moment I walked through the lobby to ordering drinks at the bar, everyone I encountered was so welcoming and friendly. I went to a vip dinner event before the concert so was able to see different areas of the hotel as well.

We had an excellent visit! Arrived on 8/11 around 930 am. I believe the lady checking us in was Beverly but I might be wrong. She was wonderful! Very friendly and helpful, we even talked about Disneyland a bit. She got us checked in right away and our room was ready which was awesome because we had driven in right from Vegas. Such a beautiful resort! It reminded me of a mix of hacienda and coastal. The room was very nice, spacious, and I love how the room look out onto the pool. We hung out at the pool for a bit and it was so relaxing. Lots of chairs, towels and water. They do walk around for food and drinks but we had just had lunch. We hung out at the bar at night and it was packed. Great drinks and baseball game on, we will definitely be back here. We only stayed one night as we headed to Disneyland the next day.

Yet another pool! Here's where the patio snack bar is!

My daughter buys me a birthday pool pass every year. It's the best gift! I get to relax, in quiet at the adult pool and Serenity Pool, while looking at blue sky, palm trees, and tropical atmosphere. I can order food and drinks through scan with my phone, or walk up to the pool and snack bar. I like to come in the morning to start with a coffee drink and a book. If you want more richness and privacy you can book a private cabana with tv and curtains for extra $$. Free parking is included. Super friendly service! Julia and Paige treated me like royalty! They suggested a blueberry pomegranate slush, with or without alcohol. Amazing and delicious! Thank you ladies! Excellent service and attending to me! You can go to the huge family pool area that has a slide, mini golf, and sprinkler fun. Also kid friendly snacks and meals. Hot tub too. I like the other two pools. Get the steak bites. Cheesecake. A wonderful day cation. My routine? Pool, hot tub, drink no, relax. Repeat.

My company booked here for conference that was being held here back in October. It was busy trying to check in. The lines were long and the check in area was crowded. I didn't get my room for a few hours. The hotel grounds were nice and huge. Lots of walking to get to run, trainings, etc. The rooms were a little dated. The bed was said to be queen but it was way smaller. The shower and toilet were literally next to each other. The staff was friendly. If needed i would stay here again.

The Hyatt hotel in Newport Beach is located on Jamboree and is right against the Back Bay so it's very conveniently located next to Fashion Island as well as for recreation in the Back Bay. It's also only like 10min from SNA Orange County Airport. The rooms were semi-recently renovated, the staff is nice and helpful, and best of all the grounds of the hotel are gorgeous with tons to do! The hotel offers activities such as movie nights and also hosts Newport Beach wide events such as the Jazz festival. There are multiple pools at the hotel and one has a splashed and waterslide which is super fun for kids! They have a giant chess board, shuffleboard, tennis courts, pickleball courts and also a golf course that is all complimentary to use if you're a hotel guest! It is Valet or self park only and the parking rates are a bit high, the rooms don't have the best sound-proofing and the hotel restaurant isn't that good; but those are really the only negatives about the hotel. I have stayed here and had my family stay here multiple times and everyone always enjoys it and wants to come back!

For the past six years, I have stayed in the same room at Hyatt Regency Newport Beach during the annual Newport Jazz Festival. Because we reserve the same room year after year, I've had the opportunity to see the condition of these rooms decline over time. Unfortunately, this year's stay has been especially disappointing. The lack of deep cleaning behind furniture and fixtures is very noticeable, and quite honestly, the condition of the room is unacceptable for the premium rates charged during this event. Friday through Monday stays during the festival are far from inexpensive. One recurring issue is the refrigerator, which has never worked properly. We report it every year, yet the problem remains unresolved year after year. As loyal guests, we expect better. At these prices, guests should receive accommodations that are clean, well-maintained, and fully functional. If improvements aren't made, we will seriously reconsider where we stay for future Newport Jazz Festivals. It's definitely time for some renovations, Hyatt Regency Newport Beach.

Hyatt Regency Newport Beach is the kind of hotel that makes you feel like you're on vacation. My friend and I recently stayed for a mini staycation and had a great time. The property has multiple pools, cozy fire pits, a cute restaurant with decent food, and even a golf course. It was easy for us to settle in and enjoy ourselves and relax without ever leaving. Our room was comfortable and well maintained. While there were a few cosmetic updates that I noticed could be made, the overall experience was excellent and these didn't detract from our experience. The pool area was definitely my favorite place to spend the day. There are three pools and hot tubs (particularly a very large hot tub in the main pool area). It was also incredibly family friendly with a slide and lots of space for kids to swim and play while still offering quieter spots for adults to relax with a book or enjoy the sunshine. Newport is such a cute area, but I loved not having to leave the hotel to have a good time. I would definitely go back to this property for another staycation sometime!

We had a nice stay here. The property almost felt like a resort! I loved that our room had a balcony and was close to one of their three pools. The pool we enjoyed was the serenity pool, which is supposed to be one of the more quiet ones. They play relaxing music and it was pretty low key when we were there. I don't know why they just don't make this pool adults only though because a couple times people brought little kids and it didn't really seem appropriate for the vibe they were trying to create. There were also kids on scooters going around the pool right in front of people's doors late at night which I think should shouldn't be allowed. Overall it's super family friendly though! The main pool had a slide and they even had a family movie night the evening we stayed. Our room was just OK. Beds were comfortable but our mini fridge wasn't really working and there was a huge spider that came out of our shower. Don't expect luxury, but overall it was decent and the room was clean. I liked the fire pits and large games available throughout the property. The front desk staff and bartenders were very friendly. We didn't try any of the restaurants but you are able to order postmates to your room which was nice. The grounds of this hotel make you feel like you are somewhere else! Very green and lush with plants and trees. Golf carts are available to to take you around if you self park ($40!). We walked to Balboa Island from the hotel which took us about 20 mins. I would stay here again and recommend it if you are looking for a little staycation.

Stayed in the Lido building over the weekend. Even with the rain it was still so lovely . Pool was vibing with a dj on Sunday .. had the best service from their staff .. Kimberly a floor supervisor was so accommodating with our little in the rain. She was an absolute gem and went far beyond to make sure our stay was unforgettable even in bad weather.

There's good and bad about this hotel. We stayed here because we have a boat in the marina that is right across the street. The hotel grounds are very big and the do a nice job of maintaining the facility. We paid extra for an ocean/marina view and had neighbors who were extremely loud, partying and threw their trash around the hotel at 7am. This seems to be a place where people come for parties or events and wasn't as relaxing as we had hoped. As far as the room it was more of a 3 Star experience. The bed was uncomfortable with thin sheets, walls were thin and very loud inside. We expected a lot more from this property. Employees are nice and good food and beverage options. Unless we had to stay here we will try another hotel in the area.

The fitness center pool was too cold for laps on this visit so I skipped it. I also watched several guests check the hot tub and walk away. It was barely lukewarm and the jets were not running. Afterward I looked through recent reviews and saw the same complaints going back months, so this does not seem like a one day issue. If you come here mainly for the pool and spa, this matters. I will update this review if they get the heat working again.

Is the pool and the jacuzzi open and available?

    Yes

Does hotel have shuttle service for guests? ie to/from Fashion Island? Newport Beach or Crystal Cove? TIA

How may pools do they have?

There are three pools, including one pool that is more family-friendly with a water slide.

Which building would you suggest or recommend? Lido? Balboa? Bay?

I like staying in the Catalina building (3rd floor) because there's an elevator and centrally located. It's where the lobby is located. The view is also nice if facing Newport Dunes. It's the perfect place to view the concerts when it's playing…

What resort fees are there and how much are they per night?

One thing I noticed before booking the first time was that a lot of the reviews are from before the property became VEA. In my opinion, those older reviews don't do the current resort justice. The transformation has been impressive, and the experience today reflects that. What really sets VEA apart is the people. Great hotels are built by great teams, and the staff here consistently goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome. A special thank you to Mike, Brett, Jen, Tyler, Calvin, and Kieu. Whether it's at the front desk, around the resort, or behind the bar, everyone is genuinely friendly, remembers returning guests, and creates an atmosphere that makes you want to extend your stay. The bartenders deserve a special mention as well. They make the Edge Pool Bar and Lounge a couple of our favorite places to unwind in the evenings, with great drinks, engaging conversation, and outstanding service. Another highlight has been the live music. If you're lucky enough to catch Drew Cole Music during your stay, don't miss it. We've seen him perform three different times at VEA, and each show has been fantastic. It's one of those little touches that elevates the entire resort experience. Between the beautiful property, outstanding service, relaxing atmosphere, and live entertainment, VEA has become one of our favorite Marriott resorts in Southern California. We already look forward to our next visit.

We were so surprised at the way we were treated by EVERY employee- this does not happen any more anywhere! From valet to check in to maid service to bellman to bar and restaurant staff. They do have some construction going on in the front lobby area so check-in was moved to a smaller area and there was a line, but the line went fast and the employees were smiling, offering us water bottles, telling us more bottles were in our mini fridge in the room plus a free bottle of wine and handed us a glass of champagne at check-in! We were shocked actually lol Our stay was amazing. We were there for a baby shower. The shower was held in a room right off the deck where all the yachts were parked on the water. It was beautiful, the food was all delicious made by the restaurant on site. In the evening, we stopped by the bar and all the fire pits were going right next to the water & yachts. Perfect ending to a great day already. They have a free shuttle/suburban that will take you anywhere within 2 to 3 miles and pick you up. Lots of great pastries, try the bacon Asiago scone-obsessed! They had yogurts fruits egg bites and sandwiches as well. And coffee of course. Water stations were everywhere in the resort which was great! Pool area very nice and has a bar. Perfect. This hotel is not on the beach, but is on the water. You could have the shuttle take you to the beach w your gear and pick you up if needed. That works out perfectly. Definitely will stay again. The treatment we received was A plus!

Extremely Disappointed -- Cockroaches, Dirty Pool, Construction Noise & Terrible Management…read moreResponse My husband and I stayed at Balboa Bay Resort with our 9-month-old baby. I specifically booked one of the better rooms with a beautiful view because I wanted us to have a relaxing stay and enjoy a nice dinner together. Unfortunately, the experience turned into a nightmare. A cockroach bit me, and we found at least six more cockroaches during our stay. There were also cockroaches on the balcony. I was so uncomfortable and disgusted that I couldn't sleep, relax, or even enjoy our dinner. The pool was dirty, and the day after using it, my 9-month-old baby developed a fever and an infection. He had never been sick before, so this was extremely upsetting and concerning for us. On top of everything else, we woke up to loud construction noise. We were never informed before our stay that construction would be taking place. The hotel told us that Booking.com should have notified us. However, when I contacted Booking.com, they told me that they had not received any construction notification from the hotel. What disappointed me most was how the situation was handled by the manager, Rami. I explained everything that had happened and requested a refund. He told me there was nothing he could do. What was even more upsetting was that I didn't feel that he genuinely listened to my concerns or even offered a sincere apology. I also explained that they could check my history -- I have stayed at Balboa Bay Resort many times. It was one of my favorite places. I wasn't someone simply looking for a reason to complain or get my money back. I was a returning guest who had genuinely loved this resort, which makes this experience even more disappointing. When guests are paying premium prices for a luxury resort, they should not have to deal with cockroaches, cleanliness concerns, unexpected construction noise, and then feel dismissed when they bring serious concerns to management. I am extremely disappointed and angry about how our stay and complaint were handled.

Instead, we sat at the bar and enjoyed the shrimp and tacos, which were both amazing. We also had great conversations with some very fun people. You have to try the bartender's famous Abuelita Horchata cocktail, a delicious mix of chocolate and a dash of cinnamon. It was absolutely incredible! We'll definitely be coming back to enjoy the rooftop restaurant next time we'll check there is no event going on!

The staff were super friendly and helpful. They do have complementary dog beds that are huge and comfortable, they also have pack N plays for your little ones and also offer microwaves upon request. They have 2 pools, one with the slides and a beach entry pool. The other with a regular pool and different activities for the whole family to play with (ping pong table, giant chess, giant connect four) we only went to the one with the slide and our kids (ages 2- 10) loved it! We went closer to sundown but the water was warm so it felt nice. They have staff at almost all entrances checking for your wrist band to make sure you're staying there. There's access to the beach from both pools. It's a short walk to the crosswalk and you're there! They also have complementary wagons, beach chairs and you can take the towels with you and just return them when you get back! Makes it so easy to go! They do have a bar at the pool with the slides, we loved everything we got. My pool wrist band ended up getting too tight so I went to the front desk and they cut it off for me and gave me a new one. Again they were super friendly about that and even asked if we needed more water or anything. The cleanliness of the resort was top tier. It was walking distance from restaurants and the pier so we all had a lovely overall experience. Will definitely be back!

I was attending a wedding in Orange County and this hotel was part of the wedding block, which they extended by a day for me. When I arrived after a day of travel from the East Coast that became longer and more adventurous than I cared, it was great to be offered two different types of rooms and be personally shown the difference. I chose one on the Ninth Floor. Everything worked in my room, except the shower head, which apparently had been replaced before and now no longer fit precisely in the clamp not made for this shower head handle. It will need to be replaced again, because it falls to the shower floor when the water is turned off and the buttons on the handle adjust themselves to appear to shut off the water flow. This room on the Ninth Floor was a handicapped room and there was no shower door, so this allowed only a small trickle of water out the opening. This is often a problem in hotels, but not here. The televisions worked properly and the thermostat kept the temperature where you wanted it, another issue at hotels. I actually turned the air conditioning off, given the blanket or comforter is not thick enough with the AC on and the ambient air was comfortable without the AC. The AC unit could run a little quieter when in operation, but was comparatively quiet when measured against other hotels. Housekeeping was dutiful and deserved to be tipped, which I did. She was patient with my morning schedule and semi late breakfasts downstairs. She reset the room properly each day. Speaking of downstairs, they have a good bar serving up drinks with quality jumbo ice cubes. My Manhattan was very good. I had a beer poured cold another day. Each time I had breakfast, I had the Denver Omelet coming with well prepared hash browns. The omelet is a three egg omelet with ham, onions, and mushrooms with cheddar cheese. It's a substantial omelet and breakfast for twenty bucks. Served with ketchup and hot sauce at your option. Service is also quick. Given the hotel's proximate location just ten minutes from SNA and Newport Beach in the other direction, your Uber rides will not be overtaxing. 4.2 stars

But, this place is worth every penny (we paid over 500$ for one night, but we might hang around.) The place is really pretty. It is near the freeway, but not so close you hear it at all. Our room is large and spotless. Check in was so easy. It is a tranquil retreat overlooking waterfront views of Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve. And believe me I could some tranquilly right about now. You can go to the beach or sit by the wonderful pool. It has a great fitness center and it is not crowded. We had dinner right there at the Vista Kitchen Bar. It is cute and comfortable and the service is great. It is American food and it is great. It is a tad pricey, but we are in a hotel. We are very happy and will return.

However, the staff at Crew and the pool need some training. At the pool, there are five cabanas, yet a group with several infants and toddlers was placed in the cabana directly next to the lounge chairs where guests were trying to relax, while the other cabanas sat empty. Small children are naturally going to make noise--that isn't the issue. With multiple empty cabanas, the staff should be more thoughtful about placement so everyone can enjoy the pool. The pool staff also need to be much more attentive. At a luxury hotel, staff should regularly walk the pool area, check on guests, clear items, and offer food and beverages. Guests shouldn't have to search for someone when they need service. Our experience at Crew the next morning was equally disappointing. The employee who served my husband and me never greeted us, never smiled, and acted as though helping us was an inconvenience. I asked to see the chocolate croissant and had to press her to show it to me, even though no one else was in line. I later accidentally spilled my coffee and told her, and she didn't even offer to replace it or ask if I wanted another. I wasn't looking for a free coffee and would have gladly paid for another--it was the complete lack of hospitality that bothered me. When you're paying $500 to $1,000+ per night for a standard king room, plus substantial fees, the service should be impeccable. Luxury isn't just about beautiful surroundings and high prices--it's about making guests feel welcomed and taken care of. Both the pool and Crew fell short, and management needs to put a greater emphasis on customer service and hospitality training.

Room has decent toiletries, hair dryer, robes, slippers, fridge, coffee maker. Several restaurants on site, Starbucks coffee, little market, etc. They also have their own fire pits. 4+ stars * Location: accross from the beach... so it is not quite ocean front although they do have non-obstructive view of the beach and Hungtington pier. It is a bit walk to Pacific City shopping. 4+ stars. * Motif: nice and wellkept grounds. Room is clean, basic decor. 4 stars for the overall, 2 stars for room noise! * Service: valet staff is friendly. Front desk is so so. Housekeeping staff is nice and friendly. 3 stars. Averaged to 4 stars. We are loyal Hyatt customers, explorist status on Hyatt membership. But we usually stayed at the Hilton (for better view). We booked 3 night ocean front room for a staycation directly via World of Hyatt. We got the farthest room of the resort. The bell desk delivered our luggage before we got there since it is quite a walk... so, if you have any issues with walking, might ask to have room closer to front desk. The guest room is decent size suite, clean, nothing special with sofa, desk. The balcony is good size. The goods: - they have a bridge to cross over to the beach where you can pick up beach chairs, towels, umbrella etc. They do have beach service to set up chairs and umbrella for $25 from 8 Am to 5 PM. - many pools - beautiful resort grounds - there are many restaurants, market, Starbucks coffee shop... so you do not need to leave the resort. The bads: - noise, noise and noise. It is so closed to PCH that the noise is unbearable especially for the ocean front room. They have earplugs for you... but really who wants to wear ear plugs all day?! - parking: no self park option. - our room has the parking view... hardly ocean front. For over $1000 per night, it is a rip off! I will definitely do not recommend ocean front room at this resort! Overall, it is ok stay for us but hardly relaxing.
