The location is great. It's connected to the Baird Center, which would have been handy if I'd attended the conference held by my profession's national association last year. It looks like the University of Wisconsin MKE Stadium is it across the street, as is the Milwaukee Highlife Theater for concertgoers, and the Pabst Theatre is a block or two away. American Family Field (so called as of 2025; where the Brewers play) is within a 10 minute drive. The hotel was able to hook you up with in and out privileges if you parked in the garage, which was great because I headed out with my baby several times to go shopping or pick up a meal. That's kind of where the pluses end as far as I'm concerned. I wasn't here for any of the above mentioned things; my visit revolved around Gaming Hoopla, a board game convention that returned to Wisconsin after several years in northern Illinois. The spaces for the conference were good, and there was lots of space for folks to play games, scheduled or unplanned. But the parking was expensive, like nearing Chicago hotel prices; I think it was $28/night for parking, which may have been a discounted rate associated with the convention. When we got there I looked for a luggage cart because we had a lot of gear (a couple suitcases, stroller, bag of snacks, toys, a small cooler...) and was surprised to learn that we had to wait for the bellman to be available because we couldn't use the cart ourselves. Not sure they were up to a board game convention, because when we arrived (around 9) they had a single bellman and he was struggling since people attending these conventions often bring several games of their own to play, especially if they're hosting a game, and oftentimes they're heavy ones. It also simply wasn't efficient, and I can't imagine how frustrated I may have been if we'd arrived or left at a busy time. I don't often use a luggage cart when I travel so I'm clearly not familiar and may be making an unfair comparison but other hotels I've been to have several carts available for use by guests if they want. They don't allow outside food--at least in public areas, that is. I suppose that's fairly standard and maybe for conventions in particular but that only works a hotel actually has options for food. This hotel has a Starbucks, a bar which serves food from 5-9 or something, a breakfast place that's open from 6:30 - 11 am. And they have the audacity to ban other food?? When it's actually impossible for your guests to get food between 11-5 unless they're using your catering? I mean I guess that's the point, but... kind of weird. And the restaurant doesn't have a lot of seating, with most of it being outside in the lobby area, so it may be hard-pressed to serve 500+ people in a short period of time. I got an accessible room so my significant other would be more easily able to move around. But "accessible" simply means a roll-in shower, I guess. Maybe wider doors? But none of the other furniture was accessible--there's no way that the toilet was ADA height, and all the chairs were low (the desk chair was marginally higher, but if it wasn't at full height we couldn't figure out how to get it up further). Although I had originally reserved a double, their accessible rooms come in king only, so they brought in a roll-in bed... which was at least three inches lower than the bed and not an option for him. Since the crib I'd requested was actually a pack and play, which my daughter won't sleep in, she and I had to use the large bed and he slept in a chair for the duration of the stay. And for those times where we're just lounging and hanging out, the tv didn't work properly most of our stay. As has been made clear, I'm not all that impressed with hotel. Will I return? Unfortunately, yes, as I suspect they'll continue having the convention here and I'll return to that if it works out for us.

It had been a super long day for me since I had another meeting in Peoria, IL then made the long drive to Milwaukee. Garage parking was easy, although I couldn't find the pedway, so I had to take the elevator down to the first floor and walk across to check-in. Although it was about 6:30pm and check-in is at 3pm - THERE WAS NO ROOM AVAILABLE. So, as tired as I was - I had to sit in the lobby and wait for a room to become available. They indicated it would be a 10 minute wait, which I assumed was an underestimate and I was correct. Frustrating, but at least they gave me a breakfast voucher. The rooms are fine, convenient location, the elevators take too long.

2.5 stars rounding up to 3. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency with our pup for a weekend and checked in later in the afternoon after enjoying some of the nearby area first. Upon our drive up, we wanted to drop off our bags and bring our pup inside before parking the car. We asked if they had a luggage carrier cart just to make it easier in one fell swoop. We told valet we would not be valeting and we would just be dropping off the car. They gave us a dirty look, then when we brought our stuff inside I suggested to my husband let's just take our stuff off the cart so they can use it on others while we park the car. And the gentleman basically snapped at us and said "you're not allowed to take a cart without my help" as we expressed that he basically took our stuff off and pulled his cart away. It felt a bit off. (Note: parking by yourself is $30 overnight, parking with valet is $38 overnight. You can also use spot hero to save a few more bucks if you're interested!) Check in was super smooth, and we had a great experience. The staff shared all the details of the hotel and opening hours and even recommended a few places around the area. (Will be sharing our experiences of various places in their own reviews) We headed up to our room. (Tip: make sure you have your keycard accessible as you will need it to get up to your room.) once we got off the elevators it smelled like someone has been smoking a pack of cigarettes. It was a no smoking floor but it reeked, when we got into our room it was worse and lingered. Thankfully I often travel with a mini air freshener otherwise it would've just been too much. On to the room, the room itself was a double room with 2 beds. There is a mini fridge that has a water bottle in it, but fair warning there is no sign or anything but you will get charged if you consume it. The sheets appeared clean but the surfaces of everything felt dirty. From the tv console, to the nightstand, to the bathrooms, not to mention the tub and the toilet. The ceiling pieces look as though they're a bit moldy in the bathroom, and just make sure you don't have the ac blasting or you'll see the ceiling tiles moving while you're getting ready as though someone was trying to break in. (It was just the ac unit moving the tiles!) I will say the water pressure was great and I enjoy my shower despite the random hairs in the tub that were there before we got there. The staff at the bar were great, there was a wedding and I think a few conventions going on during our stay and they were busyyyyyy. But they were kind and offered service with a smile. The gift shop was also great for beverages since vending machines were not on every floor. Overall, we got what we paid for because we had a great deal for the weekend. If you can find a deal for less than $175 for the weekend elsewhere, I'd certainly recommend it.

Nice hotel at the right in the middle of downtown Milwaukee! Everything is within the walking distance. Room was spacious, nice bed, good water pressure for a shower. They gave you the voucher for Buffett and Starbucks coffee, and beverages from the bar. Not sure if that is for everyone or the status of Hyatt club. Usually I hear some noise from the next doors but it seemed like I can only hear just tiny bit of people talking at night so I was totally fine with that. The wall must have been a bit thicker than other hotels! I would stay here again.

People are being too harsh with their reviews. I stayed 3 nights and it was a good stay. Yes, the property is dated but all the important things in a hotel were good. - Room clean and quiet - Comfy bed - Great location - Friendly staff - Good amenities (bar, restaurant, lounge, etc) - Reasonable prices The lobby and restaurant/bar has been updated. The rooms could use updating but was clean.

2 of 5*'s REALLY?, this is not up to a standard of a Hyatt REGENCY! Not sure why you don't use the top floor more often?you need to have events! It's a beautiful location with a unbelievable view that circles the city. OK we finally made it to our destinations, the Hyatt Regency in downtown Milwaukee, from the first step out of that car, we were greeted with professional employees with kindness! And then from there our trip just got better. Look into the history of October October 14, 1912 when Teddy Roosevelt was to give his speech, it was fascinating. he was shot and attempted assassination. Fortunately, Roosevelt, heavy overcoat, his metal eyeglass case and 50 page speech in his pocket, he planed to deliver slowed the bullet down before it entered his chest, later on when he finished his speech, he went to the hospital and that's where they found a 38 caliber bullet in his chest, six years later, Roosevelt died in the sleep with John Schrank's bullet still lives in his chest. Now for the hotel : it is in desperate need of a facelift, old, plain, boring. Needs to be updated and renovated too much a new space, lobby is extremely loud. We stayed on the 17th floor and get here people, yelling, and screaming from the lobby last night. The 18th floor lounge, Mark was fun, concierge for Platinum members was very weak, generic food, and plastic glasses for the wine come on really! YOU CAN DO BETTER! Our room: more water came out of the faucet than it did the showerhead. Our beds had wooden frame, extremely loud, when you moved, two queen size beds, one was at least a foot shorter than the other.. how does this happen? The employees: FRANK The manager was absolutely our favorite, and next in line was Kody. We had the most interaction with these two people and we absolutely adore them. Here is the list of peeps we had fun with: Aloha Frank Isack Aaron Mark upstars JR Taliyah Kody the bartender in JULEP Aaron who helped Kody, and David I do have to say they had the best chicken wings. Because of these people and the location : I WOULD RECOMMEND

This was a very nice hotel. It does not deserve the ratings I saw on here which had me a little nervous. The staff was very friendly. The hotel is clean. Nice lobby bar comfortable, good location. Pretty much anything you could ask for in a hotel.

From the moment I walked in, the lobby was overwhelmed with a heavy, Axe body spray-like scent--so strong it felt like walking through a middle school locker room. I assumed it was temporary and that my room would be a relief, but unfortunately, it was worse. The room smelled musty, like a house that hasn't been aired out in years. To make matters worse, the wallpaper was peeling off the walls, which is unacceptable for a hotel at this level. Beyond that, the overall cleanliness of the hotel was lacking. For a boutique property, I expected a much higher standard, but the space felt worn and not well-maintained. The bed was hard and uncomfortable, and the towels were rough--far from the soft, high-end feel you'd expect. The most concerning part of my stay, though, was waking up at 1:45 AM struggling to breathe. It genuinely felt like a reaction to something in the room--possibly mold or poor air quality. I initially thought I was getting sick, but after spending a few hours away the next day, I felt completely normal again, which makes it hard to ignore the room as the cause. If you have any respiratory sensitivities, be cautious. I contacted the front desk to explain the situation and was told checking out early without being charged for another night wouldn't be an issue. I even offered to return around noon so they could turn the room, but was told not to worry since they weren't sold out. When I returned later that day, there was no note, and the staff refused to honor what I had been told, citing the late checkout time. While I understand policies, the inconsistency and lack of follow-through were frustrating. I also dined at the hotel restaurant, which didn't help the experience. The food was overpriced for the quality--my salad was warm, fries were room temperature, and clearly sat out too long. Dessert was equally disappointing; the lemon tart was buried under an excessive amount of powdered sugar, making it unpleasant to eat. It's honestly a sad day when I transferred to a basic airport hotel--Hyatt Place Milwaukee Airport--and had a significantly better experience. The bed was more comfortable, the towels were actually soft, and even the shampoo and conditioner were noticeably better quality. On top of that, the Hyatt was spotless, which only made the lack of cleanliness at Iron Horse stand out even more. Overall, this stay fell far below expectations. Between the condition of the room, air quality concerns, cleanliness issues, and poor service recovery, I won't be returning.

I thought our room size was decent - a suite with a separate bedroom and sitting area. However, it was very pricey and I think for the price, we shouldn't have had hair in the shower, a discarded tissue by the nightstand and .. something gooey on the phone. I know it's hard to find every nook and crannie of these rooms, but it is very expensive and compared to other hotels of this caliber/price, this was unusual. Hopefully an anomoly. I also thought we booked 2 queen beds but these beds were certainly only doubles - not so large when you've got 4 people staying in a room. Service was good when we were there, though I tried to contact them my email ahead of my visit (no reply) and also by phone where I wasn't greeted super warmly. However, upon arrival, we were welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine to check in and the staff at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. The pool is nice but not that large and depending on how many people are there, it can be tight. It's also near the upstairs restaurant, so you might get to wait at the elevator with half of the people in dressy attire and half in bathing suits. The artwork in the conference/event area is lovely and throughout the old part of the hotel is really interesting. I love quirky and this had a mix of historic and quirky which was nice. Parking was attached (just a different elevator if you're staying in the historic part of the hotel).

On a recent trip to Milwaukee, however, our experience with the Kimpton there was less than ideal. When we arrived on a Saturday to check in, they couldn't find our reservation and despite showing them receipts and proof that I had made one, it instantly set off bad vibes from the staff. Once they "found" our reservation, we were offered two complementary beverage coupons for the rooftop bar as an apology which we appreciated. Unfortunately, when we got to our room, we were put into a room with two queen beds - it was my husband and I traveling together, and when I called down to the front desk to request a king bed room, I was very briefly and rudely told that there were none available. A king bed was the type of room that I had booked and paid for, however. Trying to not let this phase me and ruin our short weekend trip, I decided to let it go and leave it be. The room itself was clean and spacious with good water, pressure and plenty of hot water. Our television didn't work, and when my husband called down to the front desk, he was very rudely told that it was affecting all of the televisions in the hotel. No solution or reimbursement was offered. We did partake in their complementary happy hour in the lobby from 5 to 6 PM and enjoyed a seasonal whiskey cocktail. And the rooftop bar had a nice layout with heated and covered patio space with fire pits. Normally, I rant and rave about how much I love Kimpton hotels but this one just missed the mark for me.

The night reception gentleman (working Monday through Thursday) provided outstanding customer service for his consistently warm and energetic greetings every time I passed. The night valet Martin also deserves special recognition for his outstanding service, sprinting to retrieve my car and showing remarkable attention to detail by noticing my night work schedule and trying to proactively have my car ready. However, the daytime valet service was disappointing. Two valets would unnecessarily retrieve my car together (Maybe one was shadowing the other). During these retrievals, one valet would sit on my belongings in the passenger seat (this happened multiple days). I later discovered after leaving Milwaukee that she damaged my glasses. Given the short distance to the garage, this practice seems unnecessary and showed a lack of respect for guest property. If they noticed stuff on the seat, they could've just walked back. For future improvement, I would suggest better attention to guests' personal belongings and a review of valet procedures.
