Because of the Canadian fires/smoke, we could not even open the windows. Here is the kicker...the Trane HVAC unit is under warranty. Allen Heating and Cooling replaced the motherboard, then the blower motor, then the micro chip that talks to the motherboard and blower motor. Still wasn't working. The only thing left to replace was the wiring harness. The owner of Allen called the factory to explain everything they had done and asked for the wiring harness they had in the display model on their showroom floor. He was denied. He asked if they would send their top technician to repair it...he was denied. I purchased a portable unit to cool one room for $337.00. This at least gave us one room to escape the heat. We ended up buying a whole new Rheem unit to the tune of $4080.00 from Allen Heating. Allen Heating only handles emergency calls on weekends. However, they asked for volunteers to work Saturday and install the new unit because of the dire situation with our health issues. The technicians showed up Saturday morning at 8:15 a.m. to install the new unit, and by noontime, we had a working unit. They were polite and answered all of our questions. I highly recommend Allen Heating and Cooling!! I strongly suggest you purchase anything other than a Trane HVAC unit since they don't honor their warranty. We are planning on taking legal action against the manufacturer for not honoring the warranty, and for punitive damages, my husband and I suffered.

The part was ordered and would arrive on Friday. At times during the week, the house temp reached over 91 degrees so I was happy when the repair was made Friday afternoon. However, when I returned Friday evening, the air conditioner was not running again. An on-call technician arrived and discovered the water sensor had activated and turned the system off. The drip pan had water in it and this was caused by a line that was not primed after restarting the unit. Allen has taken the position that I am responsible for an emergency call and a new sensor with installation. This will make the cost of the repairs over $1,000! I have asked to speak to the owner or someone managing the office but have been told the owner is out of town for several weeks. Repairing an AC unit means making sure it is running the way it should - NOT doing an incomplete job. This could have been avoided by making sure everything was working properly. The lack of accountability by Allen is unacceptable!

DeKalb Mechanical has serviced my furnace 3 times in the 6 years since I've owned my home, and this week assisted in a chimney replacement. I chose DeKalb Mechanical because the brand new furnace had been installed by them before my purchase. Andy & Charles have always listened patiently to my frantic description of the problem and sent repair technicians within the day. The techs are consistently courteous and knowledgeable and pretty good about cleaning up after themselves.. The final charge always seems high to me - they're probably competitive - I'm "old", living on a fixed income, and think any service costing more than $200 is too much! I've been particularly crabby these last two weeks when I finally established that my various furnace issues have most likely been related to a roof leak adjacent to the chimney. (Had the roof repaired in 2019!) The first estimate blamed the flashing, and bid $2000 for the flashing and a plywood/shingles replacement. A second estimate with a different roofer found NO issues with the flashing but said there was no cap - estimated charges $400. (I liked the 2nd bid better, but even I could see the flashing was rusted out.) Finally, the first contractor proposed replacing the brick chimney & flashing with a B-vent, requiring the coordinated assistance of my HVAC people - the best estimate was 2 grand for the roofer and not more than $1000 for the furnace folks. My final charges:$2850. I was fuming when I completed the review - assigning only 2 stars. (I've spent thousands of $ on roof repair and furnace servicing and the leak was probably present before I bought the home!) But that is NOT THEIR FAULT!! Before the ink could dry on my review Nathan, DeK Mech's man that oversaw the project, was at my door to find out what he (they) did wrong! Nothing. They did nothing wrong. They did it ALL RIGHT. Arrived an hour before originally scheduled, performed their work efficently and worked as a team with the roofers. I'll be calling DeKalb Mechanical this fall before I start the furnace for the season. Keeping my fingers crossed!
