The beach at Bishop Lake was too small for the amount of people and the water quality wasn't great. The water was shallow, murky, and slimy. The trail around the lake was also crowded and not peaceful. Many people were riding their bikes or walking in between the camp grounds and the beach. Some signs or trail activities were falling apart and in need of repair. If you want to be around a ton of people while enjoying the outdoors, you'd have fun. It wasn't for me.

My family purchases rec passes for all of our vehicles. When the booth worker, Connie, asked if I have a rec pass on my vehicle, I replied yes, and she waved me in. She did not stand up to view the sticker. I parked in the Bishop parking lot and soon after noticed a white vehicle speeding through the parking lot. Connie the booth worker blocked the back of my car into the parking space with her personal vehicle and jumped out screaming, so angry she was nearly foaming at the mouth. Connie jumped out of her car, and ran to my driver's side window screaming at me as I sat bewildered in the driver's seat of my car. "What do you mean you have a rec pass, you don't even have a Michigan plate?!! Go back to the booth!!" I asked Connie to remove her personal vehicle from blocking my vehicle and obstructing my movement. I told her I don't feel comfortable with her behavior and that I wanted to leave the park. Connie said, "Good, leave!" I stopped at the booth and asked for Connie's name and the contact information for a park's supervisor. Connie replied- you don't need my name. They know who I am in the park's office. She then walked into her booth and slammed the door. I had Deb with DNR drive to the booth to speak with Connie and address her bizarre and over the top behavior. When I asked Deb whether booth workers are deputized or authorized to pursue and block parks goers with their personal vehicles, she smartly replied, "What do you think?" MI Legislature allows DNR officers to write civil tickets only to visitors without a rec pass. Under no circumstances should a civilian booth worker impersonate an officer, chase, pursue or physically block a person who they believe is not carrying a rec pass.

Please no I did not notice any restrooms available there were a few benches scattered through at least the half of the trail that I went to. I feel in the summer that this place's vegetation will be so full and that's being said make sure you bring some bug spray because it was the end of November probably the last 50° weather and I still saw some bugs. Also it's definitely a great place for biking seem like they have a few side dirt roads that you probably could take but at the same time it's gravel for easy walking. In the trail was very clean and there were trash bins/doggy bags available - maybe it should just a cold months but that's normally all used up or gone so I'm happy with this location. Since I only did half I would like to try the other half which at the parking lot you can tell that seem to be the center point of the whole trail. Happy hiking!!!

Getting there the road is all gravel and they're also some safety ridges near resident area so you literally only can go 10 mph. The location has 2 areas for parking in case it filled which I don't see it happening but plenty of room and there's 3 picnic tables available. Unfortunately I do not recall any restroom but there was hand sanitizer available not sure if the park put it out or if someone volunteered and place it out. The trail is very rocky and it also weaves through - also one may say it's hilly as well so if you have knee issues this would not be the trail for you or bring you some good walking sticks. I'm glad I did use my hiking boots because I feel shoes will probably have you sliding - highly suggest to avoid this part if it rained previously. Other than that it's very shady and make sure you bring bug spray as well so you can reapply but the trail was very clear and markings every half a mile. There's three types of trails so make sure you follow the marker assigned for the specific trail you're trying to explore. since this is one of the better trails please be cautious there are mountain bikers and I advise any hikers or runners not to run with any music so you can hear others. Last but not least there were only two benches available during the eight mile hike PS - please review the path scheduling so you're walking in the correct direction for that day. Happy hiking!!!

Instead, I did my research on locally owned/operated bike shops and discovered South Lyon Cycle nearby who sold Trek and seemed to be family-run with great reviews. I ordered my bike online on a Saturday through Trek, had it shipped to South Lyon Cycle for free delivery/assembly. They received the bike on the following Tuesday, called me once they had it and said it would be assembled and ready to take home within the hour! I couldn't believe how quick a turnaround it all was! The employee took his time telling me the most important differences (i.e. special tire gauge/adapter) which I appreciated knowing about ahead of time instead of discovering it whenever I stumble upon it. The entire time, I felt valued and taken care of without being treated like I didn't know anything about biking. He showed me the layout of the store for other accessories and then left me alone to shop without any pressure to buy what I didn't want/need. I will definitely be returning for my future bike needs!

One of the posts said that this is because of the amount of geese that have been frequenting the lake this year or because of runoff from rain. The swimming area went deep enough that we could float away from the littles on the shoreline. There were two life guards on duty. They have really amazing facilities where a get together was being held under the pavilion. They have a snack station, but we brought our own chips and sodas. They also have a splash pad with water slides. This area was closed when we went, and you have to pay a little more to access this area. They also have some cool trails and a frisbee golf course. I applied bug spray very liberally and the 'squitos were still all over me like I was the blood buffet. If only I cross country skied I wouldn't have to worry about that sort of thing. Trails, fishing, golf, a couple ball fields and picnic tables. Huron Meadows has nowhere near the amenities of the upper tier of the Metroparks but you can probably find some zen spots out in nature here. I will say it's pretty savvy for the chain to put a park out in Livingston County as they can soak the taxpayers with a millage for the whole park system. Sure, Kensington, the crown jewel is barely over the border into Oakland County but with Huron Meadows, Livingston gets to have a Metropark of its own. It could use some improvements - disc golf, a sledding hill, a paved bike trail or dirt mountain bike trails and a pool would all help round out the park's offerings. Even one or two of these would do a lot for this park. As it is, there's some pretty scenery here, but it's not worth heading out of your way unless you're being a Huron-Clinton Metropark completist like me. Kensington and Hudson Mills are far nicer parks.
