The head teacher named Stephanie and the Program Director appeared to know lots about the admission process and how to get the kids to prepare for it. But to be honest, I only cared about the result. And my daughter made it! So my review can be quite subjective. After I talked with their Program Director, I got the impression that they have great programs especially for upper grades students, including TJ Prep & SAT program. For now, I can't say much about their SAT program yet, because I have yet to try that out for my daughter. However, based on my own experience including friendliness and my daughter's feedback and my daughter's admission to the TJ ( for those who don't know TJ, it is Thomas Jefferson High School of Science and Technology, the nation's number 1 public school at least for the last few years based on US News & World Report), I'd personally give them the highest rating. I also have a couple of church friends whose kids went to their TJ program and got the admissions too.

If you want to help your child with a learning disability do better in school, don't go to these people as they are not trained to help children with learning disabilities. My reasosns are they try to use rote memorization techniques and standard teaching techniques to teach every child, which don't work with kids with learning disabilities. I was going to just let it go since they did offer me some accomodations to get my son's testing done and were trying to offer me a discount to start tutoring and I appreciated that but then Susie K. tried to shame me and make me out to be a bad parent that didn't care about my son's education. It started off bad and just never improved. They tried to have my son who has ADHD do too much in one sitting (an hour for a pretest without any breaks) so we had trouble even getting the pretesting done because my son was frustrated and in tears from too much pushing him to do the test! This showed me they had no idea about learning disabilities or IEP modifications so I stopped going to them and wasn't going to give them a bad review but then I got an insulting email from Susie K. I sent an email to request they stop emailing me since I had asked them to do this a few times already. In response, she tried to shame me as not caring about my child or education because I simply requested she no longer email me about their services. She has never once tried to find out why I no longer wanted to know about or use their tutoring services, she just sends an insulting email because I got tired of her not listening to my requests to not email me anymore. I had to threaten to contact the Better Business Bureau to get her to stop and in retaliation she sent a nasty email back that said that she didn't want to bother parents who didn't care about their children or education! Her insulting and unfounded accusation is why I am now writing this review! IAs a trained and successful teacher with 15 years experience teaching Social Studies and Elementary Science, I think I might know a thing or two about teaching and serving the public. Having taught that long, I know how to administer IEP accommodations, recognize signs of learning problems, and how to help kids do well as long as they know how to read the basics but I did not know how to teach my son how to overcome his learning disabilities to learn to read because I am not a reading teacher or Special Education teacher. I came to them with tears and a desire to help my son but didn't get the help he needed so I took another avenue and she doesn't like that. After the first disasterous testing session, I talked to some excellent Special Education teachers who told me the centers' approach was all wrong for his learing disabilities so I cancelled any tutoring they had scheduled, despite pressure from Susie K. in several calls for them to continue the test and tutoring, and never went back. From my experience with Susie K., all I can say is she is all about making money, not doing what helps the child.

This Kumon center has excelled my son in a little over two months!! He was complaining about being…read morebehind at school and wondering what was wrong with him. (He's in 1st grade). After a month, there was improvement, but two months in, he is reading books on his own! The homework is simple and fun enough that it isn't too tedious to do everyday and there is a lot of strategy behind the homework - repetitive, rhyming and even boxes that match the shape of letters which I haven't seen before in other worksheets or school homework. The teachers and coaches are all supportive & keep us updated enough but don't flood us with information either. Drop off and pick up has been very easy. I plan to keep my son here for as long as he's still excelling and plan to have my younger ones attend as well once they are in first grade although I've debating on kindergarten for my middle and Ms Cho (owner) said she'd do an assessment but usually recommends starting them a little older which I appreciate her guidance which also saves me $ and gave me peace of mind. The middle school failed my child this school year. Multiple complains to the principal resulted in NOTHING! Only a check mark talk with the offenders and the vicious cycle goes on. It's a disgrace that teachers only promote their favorites to win competitions like Science fair. The middle school drastically lacked any fun or engaging events, fundraisers or activities that encouraged team work and inclusion of parents. There was only one field trip throughout the year and no promised end of year concert that even public schools have. The end of year award ceremony was unfairly selective. Throughout the year we got Zero photos from any teacher showing a school day, so it feels like this year just fell out equation with no memories to look back to. There's no graduation ceremony for 5th graders either, which they truly deserve. Since the new owner took over, the school environment (especially in upped grades) is rapidly deteriorating. And it's not surprising, the owner lives outside the country and rarely shows up. My gut feeling was right when I checked the school website before we enrolled and it was generic. And that's how this year felt, generic! A generic website with no teacher names, stock photos of students, there's nothing there that shows actual student life or curriculum or shows any photos of the teachers. This place is about squeezing every dollar they can from paying parents, while failing on delivering the fair support and equal opportunities every student deserves.

She complained about daily bullying, degrading or disrespectful comments from some kids in upper grades, because apparently, teachers combined 5th, 6th and 7th grades in the same classroom. School administration is not properly addressing the bullying issue either and I heard the new owner is missing in action, never present and it shows. We as parents were never invited to any classroom event, where we could engage with students, teachers and other parents. There's also no student counselor on site, which upper grades really need. This school needs to step up with its upper grades policies, so every student feels appreciated and having the support the need.

I have been out of school for a handful of years but Jim (the owner and lead tutor) runs this place so well and got me up to speed again FAST. He hires very sharp tutors to assist with the volume of this popular tutoring location. All of his employees are extremely friendly, and understanding. Most of the customers are in grade school, but they can teach anything math related. They were even able to help me with some physics and chemistry too. Such a broad range of experts they have on staff. Not only that, but before I began, Jim wanted to ensure he could prepare himself and his team for my unique tutoring request (military) so he asked to borrow my study guides for a couple days before I began. As soon as I started on day 1, he had already lined up his best subject matter experts to work with me weekly. This helped me the most, the way they tailor instruction to the needs of each customer/student. Jim really got my money's worth this way! Administratively, the place is super clean and the cost is very good! I choose the unlimited package because I wanted to be able to get help as many times a week as I could handle while working full time. After a few weeks I felt solid with my math knowledge and transitioned over to physics and chemistry with the remaining time I had. This worked out great because this Mathnasium currently has an expert physics teacher on staff who made learning these tough subjects simple. The staff is constantly wiping down tables and sanitizing materials huge plus! If you have a question and raise your hand, a tutor is by your side within seconds. Also one of the biggest things Jim did to help me once he found out which math sections had me struggling the most was he provided me with Mathnasium lessons! They are print out work sheets you can only access if you're a customer and they make learning math so easy. I probably ran through dozens of these because they were so helpful and made remembering complex math steps so easy which is huge! Keep up the good work Mathnasium!
