While this is not that . . . it's perfect for New Orleans and the south and has it's own flavor. I loved the show here! Madame Kennedy was the perfect emcee (and also put on a wicked black light bubble show). Some acts were sexy and seductive. Some acts were acrobatic and martial arts based, as Madame Kennedy said, "I'm sure someone is missing their anime character somewhere." There were hula hoops, feathers, and grinders! One act was a woman who put a grinder against a metal plate on her belt and sparks flew everywhere! I also saw my first (as far as I can remember) burlesque by a transgender man. It was so much fun! We did the reserved tickets, so we got a table right up front. There isn't a bad seat in the house, but I really prefer being in the center of the action. Doors open at 6:30 for a 7 PM show, but ours was running late (we didn't mind). They have a basic bar with decent prices. They also do dance classes, varying show themes, comedy routines, and more. So you'll always be able to see something different.

Now they're ghosting us on our money. No refunds, no real communication, just endless "ongoing legal process" excuses while we're left holding the bag. This company is clearly bankrupt or headed there fast due to terrible mismanagement. We're now forced to go to court during wedding planning an incredibly stressful and expensive nightmare they created. The whole operation feels rotten. Richmond, Chattanooga, New Orleans - whatever location you're looking at, do not give them your money. They will take your deposit and leave you screwed.

From the Liquor & Lectures series (my favorite) to the holiday celebrations to Friday night DJs to their excellent Happy Hour and holiday pop-ups, there's always something going on. Even when there's isn't something "going on," it's just the best place to get your co-working done. Love the hip and art-filled modern warehouse ambiance (local artists OFC) and that pool bar is right out of your Golden Girls dreams. Speaking of the pool, yes, it's an inviting experience with friendly people around you. I tend to go on the later side b/c I don't love the sun so I avoid the crowds, too. Membership really has its perks, from the guest policy to the programming to the really huge gym. And I'm so grateful they've made the restaurant even better with decent vegan options. I had brunch here and loved my faro bowl. The only thing that has given me pause is the 20% fee added on to checks which is not a gratuity. So it can get pricey when you consider that you're paying 40% more than the price of a drink or a meal. I love the staff here so it's unthinkable that I would just pretend that I think the 20% "member fee" is their tip. That aside, I love Common House and I love bringing my friends in as guests. Everyone is so blown away by the space and the friendliness of the staff.

I purchased tickets back in April for the "For the Lovers" tour curated by one of my favorite poets, Maui. I've followed her on Instagram for years and had always hoped to see her perform in person. The tickets were only $50 each and were absolutely worth the 45-minute drive from Baton Rouge. Parking was incredibly easy with both a parking lot and street parking available. We arrived early, which allowed us to choose our seats. As a short girl, I really appreciated the elevated back row on the first floor. It gave me a perfect view of the stage without anyone blocking my sightline. There is also a second-floor balcony with additional seating. The venue itself has such an intimate atmosphere. Candles were lit throughout the theater, creating a warm and inviting vibe. There's also a bar inside the venue. I ordered a Cadillac margarita while my friend had a double Don Julio tonic. Our drinks were about $20 each and were enjoyable without being overly strong. Every poet who performed brought something different to the stage, and even the owner participated in the poetry lineup. When Maui finally took the stage, the entire room shifted. She has an incredible ability to tell stories through her poetry and genuinely connect with people. Although the tour is called "For the Lovers," she explained that love isn't limited to romantic relationships. It also includes relationships with friends, parents, children, and the people who shape our lives. That message really resonated with me. The show lasted about two hours, and afterward the poets remained in the lobby to sign books, take photos, and meet guests. It made the entire experience feel even more personal. I would absolutely return to Cafe Istanbul for another spoken word event. If you've never experienced live poetry, this is a beautiful place to start.

The show was fun and elegant. If you're able to, it's not a bad idea to pay the $25 for the ticket to reserve a table, but if they are all already reserved - just coming to the bar to enjoy the show is perfectly fine too (and easier in some ways since you can leave at your leisure). Listen, when you come here to Kermit's, you have to know it can be a little raw. It's so different than most spots! You just never know what you're going to get with Kermit. He might be making his famous red beans one night, and the next night you might catch the TBC (To Be Continued) Brass Band or even the Big 6 Brass Band setting the place on fire with that Second Line music. Shoot, you might see Kermit and his own band performing and jamming out in Treme! You could even catch his talented daughter singing, or maybe artists like Tank and the Bangas or Angelika "Jelly" Joseph drop in for a set. Then, in addition to the food and music, you never know who will be in the building that night! The vibe isn't always consistent, but I feel like having a good experience at Kermit's in New Orleans--specifically in that Treme neighborhood, bruh--is absolutely necessary. Now, for the serious part: It is dangerous, too, though. So don't think for one minute that things can't go wrong! When you come here, you need to know how to have your fun and yet be careful. This is the real Treme, and while the experience is priceless, you must stay aware of your surroundings. Enjoy the magic, but always prioritize your safety! She was patient, gave easy directions, and let the kids have fun with painting. Each child had their own easel, and they had enough paint to mix colors and be creative. One is allowed to bring food and cake; I do not think that sternos are allowed. Painting with a twist is a great place for date night, hanging with your crew, and celebrating birthdays or any other event. I will be back!
