My husband and I went to Albemarle Dodge on Monday the 23rd to sell our vehicle. Our salesman was…read moreDamey. He walked around the vehicle, checked the mileage, and then we went inside where he ran numbers and made us an offer. We agreed to the offer, signed all paperwork, and the dealership took possession of our vehicle. Before leaving, we were specifically instructed to: * Cancel our insurance * Turn in our tag * Stop our automatic loan payments We trusted their instructions and did exactly that. Tuesday passed with no communication. On Wednesday, Damey called and said: "Hey, one of my managers looked at your car, we actually don't want it anymore." I asked why and was told there were "transmission issues" and they didn't want to buy a vehicle they might have to put "$5-7k into." During that call I could hear someone in the background say: "The thing won't even f*****g move." This was shocking considering they had already signed paperwork and taken possession of the vehicle. When I called back later, Damey said he was on a test drive and refused to connect me with a manager. I then called the dealership and spoke with Steve, who initially said he had no idea what I was talking about. After placing me on hold for about 10 minutes, he returned and claimed the deal was "subject to a pre-purchase inspection" and that "no sale is final." When I asked why the inspection wasn't completed before signing paperwork and instructing us to cancel insurance, he responded: "Our sole focus is to sell cars, not buy them, so we get to them when we can." When I asked to speak with another manager he said: "I am the manager. I have a showroom full of people." My husband explained the seriousness of the situation since we no longer had our vehicle. Steve responded: "Well if you feel it's more important you can have your attorneys talk to ours." He then hung up on us. We received no follow up the next day. On Thursday evening, we received calls around 7:06 PM and 7:16 PM. When we called back, Mike answered and said there was a ticket saying we agreed to pick up the vehicle, which we never agreed to. When I asked how this was legal considering we had signed a contract, he said: "No deal is final until payment is received." He then said they would charge $50 per day in storage fees. When I asked for copies of the paperwork we signed, Mike said: "We do not keep documents for a long period of time. It is now with corporate." When asked how to contact corporate, he said they were family owned and he wasn't sure. He then told me: "Honey, just make this easier on yourself. Come collect your vehicle or have your counsel speak with ours." At this point it felt like they were trying to intimidate two younger individuals into backing down. However, shortly after that conversation we discovered the vehicle had been listed for sale on Saturday, and then sold on Monday. Despite having the vehicle and selling it, our bank loan was not paid off until two weeks later. This entire situation caused unnecessary stress and financial uncertainty for our family. After speaking with others about this experience, I have learned we are not the only ones who have had issues with this dealership. If you are considering doing business with Albemarle Dodge, I strongly recommend proceeding with extreme caution.

We lost thousands of dollars because the vehicle needed an entirely new engine. I would also advise against purchasing any Chrysler vehicle, as Chrysler allows its dealerships to operate this way. When I contacted Chrysler for help, they wouldn't assist us at all. #Chrysler
