This is the port city that the cruises leave from; Not overly impressive, kind of plain. Fort Michelangelo, which is directly in front of the port, is nice, there are a few nice hotels and a beach. But if you were ever lucky enough to venture into the town you can find a real jewel in the rough, "Mancini Jewelry". This family run business is about to hit the big time. Owner Marco Mancini has not only met Pope John Paul II, he was responsible for crafting a gold crown that is displayed in the Vatican. You've never met such a nice family and so caring for the customer. My wife and I were there to buy a ring that was displayed in the local hotel. They could see our genuine interest in their pieces, and they took a liking to us. The next thing you know we were given a grand tour of their workshop and got to see some of the first pairs of sunglasses they were crafting to be sold at Chopard. So amazing! One pair of these jewel studded glasses retailed for 90,000 dollars; you could see the high fashion people and stars of the world wearing these beautiful spectacles. All designed and crafted by hand by Mr. Marco himself. What crafting genius was on display that day! We were privileged to also see a family history book that was crafted in gold, I'm talking gold pages and etched text...jaw dropping. We posed for pictures with these wonderful people and we were on our way to our cruise of Greece. Civitavecchia may not be all that spectacular but stopping by Mancini Jewelry and meeting Marco, Alessandro and the rest of the Mancini family is a real, genuine, Italian treat
