lewis trying to fit in the hammock!
    Nancy G.

we love cats! there is not a room in our house that doesn't have something to do with, or for, cats. over 40 years of marriage, we've had 11 cats, most living into their 20's. the last 2 passed recently. we missed our kids, but it was lonely. it was time to find some new kids! i saw lewis' picture. he looked SO sad. then i read his bio! no wonder he was sad. his dad got sick & died. then his brother died. he was all alone & confused. luckily for him, har realized his plight & made sure he stayed with a foster family until he was adopted. we planned on getting 2 kittens as well. with lewis being 7, we wanted to make sure he was established as the head of the house, & felt safe. we went straight to the foster. there he was, still so sad, hiding in a teepee bed. he didn't want attention, didn't even come out. my heart ached. we let the foster family say their goodbyes & put him into the carrier. i sat in the backseat with him. we drove back to har. tom and treavor went in & settled the paperwork while lewis & i sat out in the car. he was a little scared when we arrived home & let him out, but slowly, over the next few days, & with tom & i crawling around the floor to be with him, he started to blossom. when the kittens arrived he was more than excited! & they know he's in charge! they actually bow down to him! well, occasionally they like to test him, but when 18+# puts his hand on your head, you stop! yes, 18! he is a tank, but he's so light on his feet! & fast too! lol! his nickname is twinkle toes! thank you har! you gave us a family again, & you did it with minimal hassle for everyone concerned. thank you to treavor & his wife for taking lewis in when he needed it most. adopt! you will make someone very happy! p.s.we took lewis for his 1st checkup, something we do with everyone we get. i said he was 18#+, well, 5 weeks with us & he's already lost 3#'s! he is up & moving around, playing by himself or with is brothers! we are so proud of his success! he just needed someone to care & spend time with him.

Update: i adopted April here on 8/8/16. She is a complete joy. We really got lucky because she is house trained, knows tricks and is very well mannered. Of course, every dog and their behavior is different. I just wanted to share my experience. We renamed April and her new name is Penny. The new location is spacious and the animals seem well cared for.

The caring and loving that these overworked people deal with every day speaks volumes of their character.

So if you have an elderly dog like mine that takes a bunch of pills, it's a nightmare. I use Chewy for pills because it's much, much cheaper than buying from the vet. So I have to ask the vet's office for a paper prescription and send it to Chewy via US mail. The prescriptions seem to only last like three months, and there are five of them. So I'm at the vet's office like every other week for another paper prescription. And since it's an unusual process because every other vet in the world will fax a prescription to Chewy, there are often issues with Chewy (as usual, they are very nice and helpful but still). For instance, I just placed an order for two prescriptions and found one of them was out of refills. Instead of sending the one prescription, for some reason Chewy held both of them while waiting for me to send in the paper prescription. Now I've run out of one of the pills so have to buy that directly from the vet (for a lot more money) and Chewy's telling me I have to cancel the other order and resubmit it, delaying everything even longer. Unless you're confident your dog isn't going to need prescriptions, I'd recommend looking elsewhere for a vet.

I would take pictures of my cats with my phone all the time, but I really wanted a professional to take some pictures and just capture the essence of how cute and meaningful they are to me. Unlike phone pictures, they have a great background, are not blurry, and the pictures capture the entire kittens' bodies. Lisa was so gentle and approachable with the kittens and they took to liking her and playing with her right away. It's so hard to have kittens sit still, but Lisa was able to use a brilliant combination of toys and distractions to get the perfect shots. Lisa also spent a very meaningful and extended time with me to make sure the pictures were perfect during and after the photo-shoot date. Best of all, my kittens grew up so quickly, so I love looking back on those old pictures when they were little

I religiously check the…read moreingredients of the food that Gus eats, I wake up at absurd hours in the morning during the summer so his walk isn't too hot, and he has this crazy dog seat/throne in the back seat of my car so he can look out the window. You've all heard of helicopter parenting, yeah? It's a mess and screwing up today's children, but I'm totally guilty of helicopter doggie parenting. All of which is to say that I'm not going to drop Gus off at some random place while I go to work. Step 1 (which I think the other reviewer skipped/missed): call them and make an appointment. Taking a strange dog into a place full of dogs is a little dicey. Typically, new dogs are brought over on Saturday (when there are no other dogs around) so Barbara can get a sense of its temperament. Barbara is great with dogs and has a ton of experience, but I totally had the, "well, if my kid isn't good enough for them, screw them!" thoughts running through my head. Obviously, Barbara instantly saw the inherent awesomeness of Gus. Step 2: learn to let go. I don't have kids, but I imagine this is pretty much the same as dropping them off at daycare. The first few times, they scream and cry when you leave and you're left feeling like a terrible person for the rest of the day. Then one day, magically, they're excited to go to daycare (or Bow WoW) and they don't even look back while they're led away to the playroom. It's a bittersweet moment, but one can't help but feel a little proud. See what I mean about the anthropomorphizing thing? Bow Wow separates the dogs by size and organizes the day into blocks of play, rest, and exercise so the dogs don't get overstimulated, which can cause stress. The staff is excellent about communicating with owners about even minor changes in your dog's behavior and simply giving you updates about how your dog's socialization and adjustment. I think I spent the first 2-3 weeks asking, "Is he playing? Is he making friends?" on a daily basis. The entire staff was very good about humoring me. Gus loves it there (his radar triggers around 21st street and he starts to flip out in the car) and I feel safe about leaving him there. And honestly, when it comes to a doggie day care, that's all that matters.

From routine physicals to a few emergency visits, the staff, from front desk to the veterinarians, have been so accommodating and calming for our pup! They recently purchased the entire building that they are in and expanded their facility to have more space for the waiting area and for medical equipment. They routinely have new technicians and vets, including a seemingly routine amount of new graduates. The only reason that I'd take a way a star is that they recently installed new dental equipment to clean and pull pets teeth when they are unconscious. The rub was... for two years of visits... they pushed this service unreasonably aggressive. The first time... the vet that we were randomly assigned.. said that our dog's teeth were a major risk and tried to hand us a business card about the new dental procedure. As she reached in the drawer, the entire stock of cards was gone to her surprise. Needless to say, nothing has happened with his teeth and we never went back to Becky Ortiz VMD. We started requesting a specific veterinarian since then... and Ann Berner DVM has been amazing to our now senior pup.

We called again to let them know that he was not getting any better--they did not ask to see him but rather gave us an RX for a bland diet and a probiotic for a total . His bloody diarrhea continued so we called to let them know and the vet tech, without consulting the vet, told us to "just take him to the emergency vet." We called back the next morning asking if they could see him to which they said it was unnecessary and to just drop off another stool sample. They gave us another set of the same antibiotics that again did not work. Finally we decided to take him to a different vet. They gave us a different anti biotic and he was cured in 6 days. Don't take your pet here--they simply just want your money.
