I love local newspapers because of the insight they usually give about whatever town you might be…read morein. Here in Hingham we have the Journal which I think is a top-notch weekly paper . I look forward to it's arrival in the mail on Thursdays. I especially enjoy settling down with it at night to get the latest town news as well as info about new stores, restaurants, local events, real estate for sale and who recently bought which house along with all the other human interest stories that make for a good community feeling. All letters to the editor are encouraged, gratefully accepted and published. If you have an article you'd like to write espousing an opinion or a commentary on some town issue that you're passionate about, you're welcome to submit it for publication. My husband wrote one a few years ago that made for some lively debate in the newspaper over the ensuing weeks. Some grass-roots community initiatives get started with an article in the Hingham Journal. One of my favorite sections each week is the page where they print snippets of articles from years past, some as long ago as 100 years. It's a fun way to see what was going on here way back when. The newspaper was founded in 1827 so there is a lot of history contained in those archives. This paper is popular here and is a valued resource. When we first moved to Hingham, the paper helped give us a feel for the town, the people who live here and what's going on week in and week out. Newspapers, as we all know, are sadly falling by the wayside but I can't imagine not subscribing to this local gem and supporting its continuation. You can read it on-line too but I love thumbing through the real paper deal. Good job Hingham Journal reporters! http://www.wickedlocal.com/hingham

My husband just got a response from someone who ironically didn't sign their name today - in…read moreregards to the fact they "were researching" what was going on and what he desired for his parents. 1. NONE of them can take culpability for anything their workers at wicked local say or do. As if they did look into things properly, they would actually have seen emails where Nancy O. stated that their was a department that did anniversaries where you could pay for them but she gave a number where no one answered. Which is the norm because all they do is toss you around to whomever they "think" might do something. Then get upset with YOU when you get disgusted with them for not knowing what they are doing. 2. They want reviews down which were pulled - until they gave their garbage runaround which is what they have now pulled for a month. If anyone thinks a month IS NORMAL to get a precise answer to a question, you're probably as clueless as this company and their employees imo. 3. Complained that voicemails were "passionate" -yet they never got back to them anyway... so would they think someone would like the runaround? Evidently yes they do think you like to be told 6-7 different answers. 4. They never even began to work on things even in the beginning - until Anne Brennan saw a review and then within minutes she decided to email and reach out. But for the two weeks prior ignored. Hope to God you don't need an obit because they're not on their game imo. 5. They did explain that there were two ways of anniversaries. One was the template way, the other we were given the runaround that different departments handled a regular write up which you paid for. My husband didn't want the template one, but I was told by Nancy O that there was a department that could do it for a price. Only to be told today that isn't the case. No sorry for all the wrong information you did get or emails getting ignored bc they don't know what they're doing-no responsibility for what they did by making us go to different departments that they "thought" would work in it. 6. I had bowed out of the whole thing weeks ago -because my husband was the one who's parents it was for. And when my husband told Betty Portier in obits that she was rude, then she calls MY JOB harassing me. So where's the sorry for that? Seriously? Because I could get her for harassing me if they want to go that far. When my husband said he was clear for them to leave me alone. They are the WORST company to deal with ... And if you review them and then take it down bc you were told information that then was wrong numerous times, and then put one back up - they make you feel like you're the issue. Saying that's your "choice". When they would have been stayed pulled weeks ago if they didn't LIE constantly. Just deal with Betty or anyone there and their Headquarters and you'll see they give you the runaround and BLAME you for being aggravated for over a month of waiting for one answer. Total ignorance.

I wait 2 weeks and call back and get told someone from billing will call me in 2-3 days. I wait 2-3 days and call back and they do this whole process over again. It's BEYOND frustrating. I subscribed for a newspaper.... I was charged IMMEDIATELY. I never received a paper. I call for a refund and they say they will give me SOME of my money back... even though I didn't receive the goods I paid for. I WANT MY 48$ BACK! This company is disgusting in its customer relationships. Disgusting business to take someone's money, DONT deliver a product, then make it IMPOSSIBLE to get my money back. Absolutely a joke of a company.

2 star SAT review…read more the IB is to boston : the Phantom gourmet is to dining out. there you go, if you advertise in IB you are the best, if not, your not worth the ink its printed with. hey its free amusing and always worth picking up to read ezra article (maybe the 2 stars itself) and the sometimes witty improper personals. from time to time the articles are worth a read, but its either that or look at the twitching person father down the t car. i hate the cut out pictures& montages that look like the emerson's senior project.

A question for those who have been an owner or manager of a business: Do you ever have the fear…read morethat one of your employees will do something so stupid or act very rudely? And the sad thing thing is managers can't be everywhere at all times to watch out for the idiocy of their employees. I'll get to the point now. I love the magazine as it used to make my plans each week. Even Ezra made sense every now and then. I even sent a photo of me posing with an issue in Melbourne (Boston's sister city). It was a great publication to find out about events as well as new eating establishments and stomping grounds. So when a friend of mine from San Francisco was planning to open a sushi restaurant in Boston, I said I would looking to advertising rates at certain publications. I called up the Improper and spoke to the ad exec. I explained that the restaurant is still in the business plan phase and I am helping make a budget and Idon't know anything else. She kept asking for the owners' names plus chefs, investors. I told her I didn't know and reiterated that it is still in the planning phase. She then asks where is it going to be? What style of decor? Can I fax a menu to her? I politely explained that I didn't know while here tone was condescending, aggressive, and she used some profanity. At this point I hung up. Don't people realize that you get more bees with honey and vinegar? I think that there is a certain respect you have for people in general. But I feel bad for the management/owner of the Improper as one of the uncouth rogue employees acted idiotically. I don't see why she was so rude there was no point in it and I am less likely to give money to someone who is rude.
